[22:12]	Gm-Mizi	[Day passes after Marisa forced Kai's magical capabilities open (with a painful yet effective result). Morning comes, and Kai stirs from his numbing sleep with the sound of the door opening. He's sleeping on Marisa's couch, so he can hear it quite clearly.]
[22:14]	Marisa	flicks her shoes across the room as she waltz into the kitchen, lighting the oven to warm up her breakfast AKA leftover stew.
[22:14]	Kai	grumbles and rolls over, rubbing his face. o O ( uuu... )
[22:14]	Marisa	doot de doo ♪
[22:16]	Kai	is surprised to not feel his muscles screaming at him as they were last night, given how terrible that shock seemed to be. He rises slowly.
[22:18]	Marisa	"Oh hey you're up. Good sleep?"
[22:18]	Kai	Not really...
[22:18]	Kai	Gah, killer headache.
[22:18]	Marisa	put the long french bread on the table and starts breaking it into pieces. crack. crack.
[22:19]	Marisa	"A good tradeoffs for your very own magic power!"
[22:19]	Kai	walks over to the table and sits down.
[22:19]	Kai	I'm still not quite convinced, considering you seemingly almost killed me.
[22:19]	Kai	Or something.
[22:19]	Kai	That hurt like hell.
[22:20]	Marisa	"You're not gonna die! I studied a lot for this, man!"
[22:20]	Marisa	give Kai his portion of stew.
[22:21]	Marisa	"Well if something really goes south you're just gonna be in a coma for a few hours."
[22:21]	Kai	takes it and eats.
[22:21]	Kai	Jeez, thanks.
[22:21]	Marisa	"But nothing like that happened, so... All well that ends well, yeah?"
[22:21]	Kai	Please tell me you'll ask before doing that to people in the future?
[22:22]	Marisa	"Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay♪ "
[22:23]	Marisa	hums as she eats the leftover. It really tastes better when leaving over night!
[22:24]	Kai	devours it quickly. Getting magic-zapped is exhausting, even after a full night's sleep.
[22:27]	Kai	finally speaks again after finishing his bowl.
[22:27]	Kai	Do you have any more, maybe?
[22:27]	Marisa	"Sure!"
[22:27]	Marisa	"Guy sure eats a lot!"
[22:27]	Marisa	refills!
[22:28]	Kai	Thanks.
[22:28]	Kai	finishes the next at a slower pace.
[22:29]	Marisa	"Alright, so... what's the plan today?"
[22:29]	Marisa	"You wanna take it easy while I bait Alice here with the books she wanted, or just want to have some action right away?"
[22:30]	Marisa	shows Kai the books she 'liberated' from somewhere unknown.
[22:32]	Kai	Maybe wait for this headache to go away...
[22:32]	Kai	rubs his forehead.
[22:32]	Kai	Ow.
[22:32]	Marisa	"Hey, you okay?"
[22:32]	Marisa	"Don't have any fever?"
[22:33]	Marisa	press her forehead against Kai's.
[22:33]	Marisa	"....Hmm, doesn't look like it."
[22:34]	Kai	leans back away, unaccustomed to such close contact shortly after meeting someone.
[22:34]	Kai	My head just hurts. I have to imagine this is what a hangover would feel like?
[22:34]	Kai	Ugh.
[22:35]	Marisa	"You never drink? wow, what are you, a priest?"
[22:35]	Marisa	sits back to her seat.
[22:35]	Marisa	"You should try. It's awesome being drunk."
[22:37]	Marisa	"That said, I have something that should fix you right up."
[22:37]	Kai	almost responds in an unconvinced monotone but decides to wait instead.
[22:37]	Marisa	searches the shelf nearby, and snag a blue-ish vial out.
[22:38]	Marisa	"My special hangover fix concoction, REDBULL!"
[22:39]	Kai	This seems pretty suspicious, but I guess I don't have a choice.
[22:39]	Kai	If you've seriously cured the symptoms of a hangover, then you'd be rich in the outside.
[22:40]	Marisa	"is it a big problem over there?"
[22:41]	Kai	Not big as in common, I guess, but...
[22:41]	Kai	When you have seven billion people, you're going to have a lot of hangovers.
[22:42]	Marisa	"But if I go outside, I'd have to quit being a witch..."
[22:43]	Marisa	hmms
[22:43]	Marisa	"Not a good trade. I like my magic."
[22:46]	Marisa	[They eat breakfast for a while. Marisa takes the plates and washes them. After that, it's back to her usual routine. Reading.]

[22:47]	Kai	takes the blue vial with breakfast and starts feeling significantly better by the time they are finished.
[22:47]	Kai	Thanks for the meal and the cure, Marisa.
[22:49]	Marisa	"No prob. You are my disciple, after all."
[22:49]	Marisa	waves from behind the thick tome labeled 'Collaborative eastern magic of the first era'.
[22:50]	Kai	That looks like heavy reading.
[22:50]	Marisa	"Yup. At least the size is."
[22:52]	Marisa	seems to forget that she has to teach Kai magic.
[22:52]	Marisa	Hm hm hm♪
[22:53]	Normal_Cat	taps at the window, and meows.
[22:53]	Normal_Cat	Mew.
[22:53]	Kai	looks over.
[22:53]	Kai	You have a cat?
[22:54]	Marisa	"Nope."
[22:54]	Marisa	"Stereotypes say yes, but nope."
[22:55]	Normal_Cat	Mew?
[22:55]	Kai	points.
[22:55]	Normal_Cat	is watching the two through the window, as only a cat can.
[22:55]	Kai	Then whose is that?
[22:56]	Marisa	"Hm?"
[22:56]	Marisa	looks.
[22:56]	Marisa	"..................."
[22:57]	Marisa	"You know what? Spy check."
[22:57]	Kai	Huh?
[22:57]	Marisa	put down the book and walk outside.
[22:57]	Kai	follows several paces behind.
[22:57]	Marisa	nananananaa♪
[22:58]	Marisa	"Heere kittykitty"
[22:58]	Marisa	calls out to the cat.
[23:00]	Normal_Cat	hops down from the windowsill and pads over towards Marisa. It sits just out of reach.
[23:01]	Marisa	raises her hand up. A star-shaped danmaku at the ready.
[23:02]	Marisa	throws it just so it grazes the cat's ear.
[23:02]	Marisa	"Spy check!"
[23:02]	Normal_Cat	yowls, and bolts toward Kai.
[23:03]	Kai	takes a half-step back, unsure of how to handle a frightened cat.
[23:03]	Blonde_Girl	"...Sokrateeeees~!"
[23:03]	Blonde_Girl	[A voice comes from the woods.]
[23:03]	Marisa	!
[23:04]	Normal_Cat	hides behind his legs.
[23:05]	Kai	stands in place, looking to Marisa for guidance.
[23:06]	Blonde_Girl	"Sokrateeees~ I heard you~"
[23:06]	Blonde_Girl	[The voice is closer, now.]
[23:07]	Marisa	"Business rival!"
[23:07]	Kai	I see?
[23:07]	Kai	looks down to the cat, seeing whether it has calmed down at all.
[23:08]	Normal_Cat	peers up at the human, disdainfully.
[23:09]	Kai	scratches his cheek, then slowly crouches down and offers it the chance to sit in a cradle of his arms.
[23:09]	Blonde_Girl	"...Person~!"
[23:09]	Blonde_Girl	sings out, as she emerges from the woods. A young, blonde girl, in red and white, with a simple ribbon holding back her hair.
[23:09]	Blonde_Girl	"Hi~!"
[23:09]	Blonde_Girl	waves.
[23:10]	Normal_Cat	considers the offer. How beneath me. Your arms?
[23:10]	Normal_Cat	climbs up into them, idly.
[23:10]	Marisa	"What do you want, oh business rival of mine?"
[23:11]	Marisa	"Coming here to do some tactical espionaging?"
[23:11]	Kai	*[=-= *espionage; there isn't an -ing form of that word]
[23:12]	Blonde_Girl	"I was looking for my kitty, Sokrates. He's white, and fluffy."
[23:12]	Blonde_Girl	smiles.
[23:12]	Blonde_Girl	"Oh! My name's Ellen, it's nice to meet you!"
[23:12]	Blonde_Girl	waves.
[23:12]	Marisa	facepalms.
[23:12]	Marisa	"You and your amnesia."
[23:13]	Normal_Cat	is very quiet.
[23:13]	Marisa	"C'mere, Sokky."
[23:13]	Marisa	wags her finger.
[23:13]	Kai	stands between the two and pets the cat idly.
[23:13]	Marisa	rubs her finger together. Cat gets curious and always try to smell it if she does.
[23:13]	Kai	I guess this is your cat...?
[23:13]	Kai	addresses the newcomer.
[23:16]	Normal_Cat	turns its nose up at Marisa. Pshaw, how uninteresting can you be.
[23:16]	Ellen	beams happily at Kai.
[23:17]	Marisa	wags the fluffy cat-toy before it. She has it for some reason.
[23:17]	Ellen	"Sokrates~!"
[23:17]	Ellen	says, happily
[23:17]	Ellen	"Thanks, mister~"
[23:17]	Ellen	She doesn't actually move to take him back, though.
[23:18]	Kai	looks back to Marisa again, both amused and bemused by the situation.
[23:18]	Normal_Cat	watches the cat toy for a moment, then looks over at Marisa, appraisingly. How very...droll, it decides. It settles into Kai's arms. Much nicer here, it seems to say.
[23:19]	Marisa	"Muuuu."
[23:19]	Marisa	is not pleased. Her cat-trick's the best around these parts!
[23:20]	Ellen	"I don't think I've seen you around before..."
[23:20]	Ellen	says, curiously, circling Kai as she floats about.
[23:20]	Marisa	"Well duh. You're an amnesiac. Everyone's new to you."
[23:20]	Marisa	"Oh and you owe me five thousand yen."
[23:21]	Kai	can't help but think the floating a bit odd but no longer freaks out about it. o O ( Amnesiac? )
[23:21]	Ellen	"Hmmm~"
[23:21]	Ellen	peers at Marisa.
[23:21]	Ellen	"Nope~!  No way~"
[23:21]	Sokrates	actually nods.
[23:23]	Kai	notes this and decides to question it.
[23:23]	Kai	You seem smart for a cat. I don't suppose you're magical, or anything...?
[23:23]	Marisa	"What! You are not gonna pay back what you owe?! You...you... DOUBLE FORGETFUL!"
[23:24]	Marisa	throws fake tantrum which was probably made in China.
[23:24]	Sokrates	doesn't even acknowledge such a silly human question.
[23:24]	Ellen	"If I owed you, Sokrates would know~! And he says no~"
[23:24]	Kai	. o O ( Not impossible but not proven for now, I guess. )
[23:25]	Sokrates	licks his paw.
[23:25]	Kai	. o O ( ... Maybe? )
[23:25]	Kai	Uh, here's your cat.
[23:25]	Kai	tries approaching the new girl to hand it over.
[23:25]	Sokrates	shoots Kai a dirty look. Traitor.
[23:26]	Ellen	"Sokrates~! You're baaack~!"
[23:26]	Ellen	picks him up out of Kai's arms, and spins in the air.
[23:26]	Kai	looks down at the cat. What else am I supposed to do?
[23:26]	Sokrates	is displeased.
[23:26]	Kai	Oh.
[23:27]	Marisa	"Aw, you have failsafe external memory storage."
[23:27]	Marisa	"Next time I'm gonna put Sokky in a box so you don't know."
[23:28]	Ellen	stops spinning, and hugs the cat to her chest.
[23:28]	Ellen	"Thank you, mister!"
[23:28]	Sokrates	hates everything. Especially witches.
[23:28]	Sokrates	Goddamn witches.
[23:29]	Kai	You're welcome.
[23:30]	Marisa	"So hey. What brings you here anyway Ellen?"
[23:30]	Marisa	"Looking for Sokky?"
[23:30]	Ellen	"Uh-huh!"
[23:30]	Ellen	nods.
[23:30]	Ellen	"He ran off this morning! I guess he wanted to visit you...?"
[23:31]	Marisa	"You did, Sokky? Wow."
[23:31]	Marisa	chuckles.
[23:33]	Sokrates	hates witches so much. Especially blonde ones.
[23:33]	Ellen	"You two must be great friends~!"
[23:33]	Ellen	"Unless..."
[23:33]	Ellen	has a sly expression.
[23:33]	Ellen	"You have a nice girl-kitty?"
[23:34]	Ellen	"Sokrates, do you have a girlfrieeeend~?"
[23:35]	Kai	migrates back towards Marisa, considering this matter somewhat closed.
[23:35]	Marisa	frowns so hard the universe cracks in two.
[23:36]	Marisa	"I don't own any cat, Ellen. I'm a HIPSTER."
[23:36]	Kai	... Huh. Didn't know Gensokyo had hipsters.
[23:36]	Marisa	"Let's go, K. Let her do whatever she wants to."
[23:37]	Kai	Sure.
[23:37]	Marisa	leads Kai out back where the hill is.
[23:37]	Ellen	waves.
[23:38]	Ellen	"Byeeee~! K and Hipster! See you later~!"
[23:38]	Sokrates	Merow.
[23:38]	Kai	gives a cursory wave back.
[23:38]	Kai	Bye.
[23:38]	Marisa	waves back. It's not like she hates her or anything. She's just... hateful sometimes.
[23:39]	Marisa	"And my name is MARISA!"
[23:39]	Marisa	"Not like you'll remember this tomorrow but oh well."
[23:39]	Marisa	[At the same hill (dubbed study hill for now), Marisa lectures Kai about principle of magic.]
[23:40]	Marisa	"Okay, so if we don't count pure elemental magic, we have a certain set of types."
[23:40]	Kai	nods, listening intently.
[23:40]	Kai	Alright.
[23:41]	Marisa	"There's six types of them, but actually there's just five. We leave sixth for that uncategorized stuff."
[23:41]	Kai	What are they?
[23:42]	Marisa	draws the picture on thin air with her sparkly finger.
[23:42]	Marisa	"Enhancers, manipulators, emitters, transmuters, conjurers, and specialists."
[23:42]	Kai	nods again.
[23:43]	Marisa	"Enhancement is the ability to use inner mana to increase the natural abilities of an object or one's own body. Therefore, Enhancers are able to greatly increase their physical attack and defense and are best suited for close-ranged melee combat."
[23:44]	Marisa	"Next is Emission. An affinity for Emission means that a user is capable of controlling the deployment of their mana while separating it from their body. Mana power usually decreases in intensity very quickly when it is separated from the source body, but strong Emitters can separate their mana from their body for long-periods of time and still be able to maintain it."
[23:45]	Marisa	"I'm this type since I'm good at blowing stuff up from range."
[23:46]	Marisa	"Manipulation is the ability to control living or non-living material. Abilities belonging to Manipulators allow the user to control living or non-living things in a certain way, the main advantage being able to 'manipulate' enemies. However, the power of controls depends on the risk involved. Obviously, touching the enemy while controlling is going to be stronger than doing it from afar. "Alice is this type."
[23:48]	Marisa	"Conjuration is the ability to create a physical, independent, material object out of one's mana. Once a person has mastered the conjuration of a certain object, they can conjure it and dispel it in an instant, whenever they want. I think that Sakuya is this type, but I'm not sure."
[23:49]	Kai	keeps on listening, holding the questions for later.
[23:49]	Marisa	"And for the next one, an affinity for Transmutation means a person can change the properties of their mana to mimic something else. Similar to Emission, things created via Transmutation are pure mana. Transmutation is often mistaken with Conjuration due to their similarities. A simple way of thinking about it would be that Transmutation allows your mana to mimic properties of a substance, whereas Conjuration allows you to change your aura into actual substances."
[23:50]	Kai	I see.
[23:50]	Marisa	"So basically, conjuration lets you create knives and such, while Transmutation lets you shoot lightning."
[23:51]	Marisa	"And the other type is specialists, which can't be categorized."
[23:51]	Marisa	ahems.
[23:51]	Marisa	"Gee, I sounded /totally/ like a teacher back there."
[23:51]	Marisa	"How was it?"
[23:52]	Kai	Pretty detailed; I think I get it.
[23:52]	Marisa	"Cool! I'd hate to do that again, too."
[23:53]	Marisa	fishes out stuff from her apron.
[23:53]	Marisa	"Now let's see which type you are."
[23:54]	Marisa	put a glass in front of Kai, fills it with water, and put a small leaf on the water's surface.
[23:54]	Marisa	"This is what we call 'water test'. It determines what type of mana you have better affinity with."
[23:55]	Kai	Alright.
[23:55]	Kai	smiles.
[23:55]	Kai	I guess it's time to see whether I really am an air bender or water bender...
[23:55]	Kai	muses aloud.
[23:56]	Marisa	"I think you can project mana to some extent by now."
[23:56]	Marisa	"So let's put your hands on the glass, pass mana from your right hand to your left and let it pass the water."
[23:57]	Kai	Alright.
[23:57]	Kai	closes his eyes and takes deep breaths, trying to feel out his own body's energy and slowly shift it back and forth.
[23:59]	Marisa	[the leave moves around on its own on the water's surface.]
[23:59]	Marisa	"Ohhhhhhhhhh. Manipulator!"
[00:00]	Kai	opens his eyes.
[00:00]	Kai	eh?
[00:01]	Marisa	"It is said that manipulators are logical people who advance at their own pace. They are all for arguments and tend to want to keep their families and loved ones safe."
[00:01]	Marisa	"Is that you?"
[00:02]	Kai	Sounds about right, yeah.
[00:03]	Marisa	"There's more to it, though;"
[00:03]	Marisa	"when it comes to pursuing their own goals, they do not listen to what others might have to say about it."
[00:03]	Marisa	"Is that you, too?"
[00:03]	Marisa	smiles.
[00:04]	Kai	smiles in return.
[00:04]	Kai	Definitely.
[00:05]	Marisa	"I know a little bit more about you today. That's pretty cool!"
[00:10]	Kai	This is really cool.
[00:10]	Kai	focuses harder, seeing if he can slosh the water about or create a small "water tornado".
[00:10]	Marisa	"Then we will base our training on this affinity, okay?"
[00:11]	Marisa	"From the chart, lessee..."
[00:11]	Marisa	flips through her note.
[00:12]	Marisa	"You should be able to train Manipulation at 100% affinity, Emission and conjuration at 60-80% affinity...."
[00:13]	Marisa	"And Enhancement and Transmutation at 20-40% affinity."
[00:13]	Marisa	So let's focus on doing what you can do first, then we will get a secondary and tertiary training.
[00:14]	Kai	Sounds good to me.
[00:14]	Kai	is too excited with the progress to be crestfallen at apparently not having the ability to become a magical brawler of sorts.
[00:15]	Marisa	"Let me read up on the next step and I'll get back to you real quick, okay?"
[00:16]	Marisa	"For now, I want you to think what you want to do with your manipulating power. Having a goal would make studying easier!"
[00:16]	Kai	's mind explodes to an inner universe of possibilities without a moment's passing.
[00:16]	Marisa	"Just think of what you like or what you wanna do. Your magic power expresses yourself, so it will come out during your training anyway!"
[00:16]	Kai	... Done.
[00:16]	Marisa	"Wha-! So fast?!"
[00:17]	Kai	beams.
[00:17]	Kai	There are seven billion people out there.
[00:17]	Kai	points in an arbitrary direction.
[00:17]	Kai	And with even mediocre magic, I might be able to help them all in any number of ways.
[00:17]	Kai	So yeah, I'm pumped.
[00:18]	Marisa	"W-Well, it's good that you are enthusiastic about it."
[00:19]	Kai	sits back and keeps on trying to make that water tornado, occasionally attempting to have wind sing through the glass.
[00:21]	Kai	doesn't even much care that nothing really happens and revels in the moment.
[00:21]	Marisa	sighs happily.
[00:21]	Marisa	"It's like I'm seeing my old self..."
[00:22]	Kai	just keeps on smiling.
[00:24]	Marisa	[And the morning passes with Ellen as a starring guest! I hope she has more role in the future! But for now, let's just leave Kai with his own fun, shall we? NEXT EPISODE, MORE ADVENTURING!]
