  12.
  13. Abilities:
  14. Summon Stellata
  15. Exorcise
  16. Minor Manipulation
  17. [REDACTED] (Candor is a secret-KEEPER, and will never admit to thiis ability)
  18. Longtooth - Use some of Stellata's brood to deliver venom at range. Either Candor or Stellata must have an idea where the victim is. Lethal (overnight), illness (no damage but severe disability), delayed (deadly, good for food, heat-immune, insoluble in alcohol, etc.
  19.
  20. Background: An illegitimate child of royal get from a foreign land, Candor has lived a life of seclusion and secrecy for most of his life. As a royal bastard, he is equally dangerous to his parent both dead and alive, with the possibility of kidnapping and ransom as strong (and as telling of his parent) as his capacity to turn his back on his house.
  21. Candor swears up and down that he's merely got a finger on various pulses around both court and town, but he has an unprecedented degree of knowledge as far as both enemies and friends are concerned, and all his life, sheer self-preservation has encouraged him to keep his feelers spread far and wide. Candor has had an extremely successful career in clearing the path for his father and brothers, all in absolute secrecy. Only an imminent and unusual threat to his life has driven him to these far shores.
  22. He is either unwilling or unable to divulge personal details such as his birthday, his mother's name, or anything else. He gleefully admits to being a royal bastard, but consistently forgets to mention his father, and insists that he wouldn't harm a fly despite carrying a variety of toxins and tinctures both good and ill.
  23. In a party, other members will see Candor stay up overnight with his box of materials and reagents, remaining bright-eyed and bushy-tailed throughout the next day... and the next, and the next. Connections back to him are nearly impossible to make, but unhelpful guard captains, innkeepers, bandits, and even minor lords are known to fall seriously ill, go insane, or die in dubious circumstances wherever Candor's interests can be found.
  24. He will often demur when confronted about this, saying that he is an extremely lucky man.
  25. The Agamaddon's feelers picked Candor (and Stellata) up shortly after he disembarked. He was easily able to secure a 'job' for himself in which he rids local inns, villages, and the like of dangerous pests, but his spiders cause as many problems as they solve, ensuring that he has work long after snakes and other pests are dead.
  26. His travels also led him to both the underworld and legitimate caravan guard duty; somehow, no group of bandits or troupe of predators ever seem to attack his caravans, despite the fact that he spends most of his time mixing potions and muttering to himself, often deep into the night. No one who knows him will be surprised to hear that caravans who turn down his services often come to swift and brutal ends far before their journeys do, with guards falling deathly ill and wild-eyed assailants continuing to fight with a dozen arrows shot through them.
  27. The academy's plan is largely to keep a lid on Candor rather than aid him, but it is extremely common for his long arm to reach well past even the best countermeasures, and his 'antics' continue even when he is closely watched.
  28.
  29. Among other things, Candor's left eye is extremely distinctive when viewed closely. The pupil on this side, despite appearing normal at a casual glance from an arm's reach, is a finely-wrought prosthetic. Candor rarely removes it, and its pupil is made up of seven discrete segments, with his opposite (real) eye making up the eighth.
  30. He has a serious scar from scalp to jaw on his left side, with some hair on his head, eyebrow, and beard failing to grow in. He insists that this is thanks to an accident, which is true; he attempts to create propellant on a regular basis, often ends up with explosives instead, losing eye and his 'dashing good looks' to a flying shard of iron cauldron.
  31.
  32. Personality: Although not necessarily evil, Candor is thoroughly amoral. Much like the spider that aids and encourages him, Candor is a hunter of men, a poisoner, possibly a serious drug addict, and is more interested in self-preservation than almost anything else. He revels in gathering (and keeping) information, doling out precisely enough to appear helpful without ever giving enough information for his companions to act without him. He is outright friendly with those he hates, distant with actual friends, and thoroughly unwilling to create close bonds with anyone having fewer than eight legs.
  33. Even as a product of his violent upbringing, Candor is unusually repugnant.
  34.
  35. Spirit Partner
  36.
  37. Name: Stellata
  38. Death: Defeated in defense of her brood by a group of knights following the One True God. Fire was significantly involved in this, as said brood involved thousands of palm-to-cat-sized spiders; essentially, the forest was burned and Stellata herself drawn out and shot to death.
  39. Race: Portia
  40. Element: Non-elemental.
  41.
  42. Background: A highly-intelligent, massively-oversized spider fed unprecedented growth and power by its proximity to a semi-permanent convention of ley lines, Stellata became self-aware around cat size and grew year after year beyond that. Although nearly a century old, her capacity to reproduce was never inhibited, and she was able to create entire broods of new spiders in only days without the input of any other member of her species.
  43. The spider's capacity to weave webs and birth hundreds if not thousands of usable, basically-intelligent offspring can make it extremely difficult to track her comings and goings. Although she may stay beside Candor all day, she (and therefore he) will very often be the most knowledgeable individual in a given group, and a vast, emotionless calculation drives her every thought. Her total lack of respect for human life has helped to erode Candor's own, although her influence over him is not significant enough that he thinks of his companions as -food-.
  44. Whether or not you add 'yet' to the previous sentence, I leave up to you.
  45. Personality: Stellata respects Candor's intelligence and amorality, attracted to binding with him by dint of his reclusive habits and highly effective hunting methods. With an essentially-invisible, psychic spider-spirit weaving intangible webs all around him, Candor is able to penetrate and subvert most political systems despite the fact that his personal charms are, to put it kindly, nonexistent. Stellata's insatiable curiosities and desires are salved, if never truly slaked, by her partnership with him.
  46. Stellata is a huntress, and enjoys killing in its own right, although she has no particular interest in the motives of others. Murderers and saints taste much the same to her and her brood.
