Director Kaneko Hiraku commentary: Open, the gate of boobs!

Mirei
At the first character draft, Mirei had an empathetic and talkative personality and Mamori was a taciturn girl. I thought about different dynamic this time, because the MC of Seikon no Qwaser, which I worked on before, was taciturn. But as the preparatory meetings went by, we searched for the most suitable characteristics for characters and while not being too conscious about it we settled down with how they are now. Time was needed for characters to solidify.  By the way, Mirei’s initial design had the same height and hair but her skin color was tanned deeper.

Mamori
I wasn’t the one who thought up Tokonome surname, it was an idea of producer who previously worked on Kanzen Robo Daimidaler. Moreover, initially it was Tokonome Chirasu (lol) [TL note: losing virginity]. Just like with Mirei, Mamori’s image differ greatly from the first draft. In my image she had white hair, which turned out to be long red hair. I was imaging she’d be A-cup to contrast Mirei’s big breast but others demanded C-cup (bitter smile).

Charlotte
As opposed to Mirei and Mamori images, other characters’ images were solidified to some extent at the beginning. But if you need the difference than it’d be their head and body became longer for their silhouettes to feel more grown up. It was done when Mamori’s character was decided to match that. That’s why Charlotte’s design wasn’t that different from the initial. The idea of nip slips was decided from the start. Looks like series compositor, Kuroda Yousuke, was planning for her to be a more convincing villain.

Kasumi
Kasumi had long hair initially. After redrawing setting picture several times the most nicely fitting image of her was blue short hair with glasses. When she became “character who doesn’t use Arm” in the scenario, I made her into fighter with legs based technique. I added tights to the greatness of which I awoke while working on Maken-Ki Two (lol). And so she became “legs technique user in black tights”. Thanks to that the idea of ripping tights was born.

Akira
The moment I was told “The next project you’re doing is original”, I was thinking about a story where main character was reverse trap, who actually was a beauty. Akira is the remains of that story.  At the initial stages she had long hair that was tied up behind, but she was too obviously a woman like that, so I made a short-cut instead. Simply put, I like big breasted girls with short-cuts (lol). Personally, I have a strong emotional attachment to her.

Meifon
At first I intended her to be chubby character. Not to the point of obesity but a character that’d be plump and agile. Like Sammo Hung (lol). I thought it‘d be fun to watch how her belly shakes as she moves but no matter how many meeting we had staff reactions were weak and cooled me down (lol). Regarding AAA-cup, everyone else was big breasted and I thought “Come to think of it, we don’t have small breasts” so I made her like that. Felt like it was accidentaly.

Torino
At the start she was completely like Kazumi Mizuho from Onegai Teacher (lol). Moreover, at the start the setting was that she has a super strong ability and young daughter (lol). In fact, there were times in project planning when I was wandering away and it could become a meta anime full with meta jokes. But after that I retained my composure and made her image from the scratch.  I wanted “saggy breasts” for boobs variation, so I thought about having grown up character and she became like that.

Rain
I thought about making a challenge and draw a rider suit which I’ve never drawn before. A character I’ve cherished from the start. Simply speaking it’s “beautiful woman riding on bike”. But as I look back at the completed character, I think “Is it really rider suit?” (lol). At first she wore something like mini skirt but it didn’t have enough impact and I bared her butt. Mirei and Charlotte are no-bra for drive, so I thought it wouldn’t be strange for Rain to has a bare butt to Lady J’s liking (lol).

Lady J
At first she had ojousama image with blue hair and white dress. However, Arm designer, Iwanaga-san, looked at storyboard of 1 episode where Rain sticks out her butt to extend over bike, and changed bike design from massive large-sized one to the sport type one. The image greatly changed because of that, so I’ve made changes to her design as well, added a lot of exposure to her composed outfit. Thanks to that she became an extreme character who doesn’t wear panties (lol). I proposed N-cup, the largest size in this anime, half jokingly but, unexpectedly it easily went through, so I was really glad.

Momoka
I had an image of Momoka to some degree but I was adding details still seeing how the story unfolds. In the concept she is Mirei’s ex-partner, so I made her design while being conscious about Mamori, her current partner. A look alike cat hairpin, petit body, I got close to the type of girl Mirei’d want protect. Her initial silhouette had more roundness but while being conscious about her sharp interior and to differ her from Mamori, I put more acute angles to her. I’m not used to characters with small breasts like Meifon and Momoka, so I became anxious “Is it really ok?” (lol).
