Translation of the Koshimizu Ami/ Seki Toshihiko interview that appeared in Newtype.

最襲回お疲れさまでした。ご感想をお聞かせください。

Interviewer: Congratulations on the hard work. Please let me hear your thoughts.

小清水：。。。。

Koshimizu : ...

関：（小清水は）すでにないています（笑）！
僕らは収録前に必ず台本とリハーサル用のＤＶＤをいただくんですが、そのＤＶＤに収録されているリハーサル用の原画映像に最襲回のときにかかる挿入歌をつけてくれたんです。
２曲目のオープニング、次に１曲目のオープニング、ラストに１曲目のエンディング「ごめんね、いいコじゃいられない。」が入っていて。
より最襲回のテイストがわかりやすかったんです。
だから。。。一回台本を読んで、一回リハーサル映像を観たら、ジンと来ちゃって。
それはみんな言っていたよね。

Seki : Koshimizu is already crying!(lol)
Before we record we always are given scripts and rehearsal-use dvds, but in the dvd containing the line art to be recorded in the final episode, the insert songs were also included.
The second opening, next was the first opening, lastly was the first ending theme "Sorry, I can't be a good girl" were included.
It allowed us to get an easier taste of what was going to be the final episode.
So after I read the script for the first time and saw the rehearsal video for the first time I was touched.
Everyone else said the same thing.

小清水：。。ええ。台本を読んだときから感動していたんですけど、リハーサル映像のチェックをしたらもうもっとかんどうしてしまって。
これは家で泣いておこう、と思いました。

Koshimizu : Yes, I was moved after I read the script, but after the rehearsal video check it hit me even harder.
I thought, "Well, I'll have to go home and cry over this."

収録中や収録後にお２人は話されましたか？

Interviewer : Did you two talk to each other during and after recording?

関：いや、そんなに話すことはしなかったよね。
収録の間で話をするよりも、マイクの前に立ってから、役と役で会話した方がいいと思っているんです。

Seki: No, we really didn't talk that much at all.
Rather than talking before recording, standing in front of the mic, talking to each other through our roles was better I think.

小清水：芝居をしているときは、役のことだけを考えているんです。
だから、収録が終わったときも、すぐに感想がでてこなくて。
「おわった？」みたいな。

Koshimizu : When we were acting , we only think about our roles.
So when you are done recording, it doesn't hit you right away.
"What, we're done?" kinda.

最襲回まで見ると「キルラキル」は流子と鮮血の関係性の物語だったとしみじみ思いました

Interviewer : When you watch through to the last episode, you keenly feel that Kill la Kill is a story about the relationship between Ryuuko and Senketsu.

関：まあ、最初、鮮血が気にしていたのは、主に竜子ちゃんの体脂肪率でしたけどね(笑）。

Seki : Well, at first all that Senketsu was worried about was Ryuuko-chan's body fat percentage.(lol)

小清水：「それを見るなよ！」って（笑）。
鮮血がたまらなくかわいいのは立ち振る舞いが大人なのに性格がピュアだからなんですよ。

Koshimizu : "Don't look at that"(lol)
What is really cute about Senketsu is that despite his adult manner, he in fact has a very pure personality.

関：そのピュアな鮮血を、流子ちゃんは第３話までっこばんでいたんだよね（笑）。
あのヤンキーの流子ちゃんが「恥ずかしい！」って気持ちをもっていることがすごくかわいいと思いました。

Seki : Ryuuko-chan rejected that pure-hearted Senketsu until the 3rd episode didn't she?(lol)
The fact that that yankee Ryuuko-chan can feel embarrased and even exclaims "How embarrasing!" was very cute I think.

そんなお２人が考えるベストバウト(名勝負）の相手は誰？

Interviewer : Who was the the one who gave Senketsu and Ryuuko their best bout?

関：第４話の風紀部トラップ開発部部長の大暮麻衣子ですね。あのやり口がもうかわいくてかわいくて。
あの第４話は絶品だと思う！

Seki : The trap development club president Oogure Maiko from the fourth episode. Her dirty style is just so cute.
The fourth episode really was a work of art.

小清水：あの回はキャラクターデザインもちょっと違いましたよね。

Koshizumi : The character designs from that episode were a bit different weren't they?

関：しかもあろうことか鮮血を着て人衣一体しちゃうんだから。何も努力していない大暮麻衣子が！
本当におもしろかったですね。

Seki : And of all things she wears(Jini Ittai) Senketsu. That Oogure Maiko didn't even have to try.
She really was interesting.

さて、流子と鮮血の波乱万才の物語もみごとに完結しました。
２人の関係を、小清水さんと関さんはどうお考えでしたか？

Interviewer: Well then, Ryuuko and Senketsu's long tumultuous journey has ended splendidly.
What did Koshimizu-san and Seki-san think of their relationship?

関：人って「自分が何者かしりたい」っていうことがいちばんの願いだと思うんです。
流子ちゃんと鮮血は「お前のことが知りたい」とお互いに言える間柄でした。
それって、ことばにすると安っぽくなるけど。。。「愛」なんですよ。

Seki : I think that a person's foremost wish is to "Know one's self"
Ryuuko-chan and Senketsu both said to each other "I want to know you."
I think it cheapens things to put this into words, but it is "love."

小清水：鮮血と流子は家族のような、親友のような、恋人のような、ものすごいく着心地いい関係なんです。
人間同士ではこういう関係にはなれなかったんじゃないかなって。
そのことが描かれていた、すばらしい作品だったと思います。

Koshimizu : Senketsu and Ryuuko are like family, like friends, like lovers,  are in a very comfortable/close fitting relationship.
Had they both been human it would not have been possible for them to have this relationship.
I think that is what this wonderful work depicted.
