So how much do these guys make?

In this particular tournament, the winner of the grand finals (which is tonight at 7:00!) will be walking away with $50,000!  Believe it or not, this is relatively small for a grand championship win.  Winners of other tournaments make $50,000 in monthly tournaments (GSL)

How long is this tournament?

This tournament started Friday the 18th at about 5:00 PM.  The players have had to play a grueling three days to get to this point.  The best of the best are playing right now.

How often do these guys practice?

For these guys, this game is there job.  Just as any other person works 40 hours a week, so do these Starcraft players.  They practice anywhere from 40-80 hours a week depending on the person.  There practice consists of playing random players on the ladder, practicing against their teammates, and practicing against the computer to hone their skills.

What else goes on at MLG?

MLG is an awesome spectator experience.  You can’t see it from this stream, but once you walk into the venue, you see three huge main stages.  On the left is the main stage for Halo 3 (XBOX 360)!  On the right is the main stage for Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3).  In the center, main stage, is Starcraft 2 (PC).

How many people watch this thing?

MLG Anaheim (where I was in attendance) marked the highest attendance for MLG ever and the people at MLG expect this event (Providence) to be even better.  At Anaheim, there were crowds of 100,000 in person and 150,000 concurrent (at the same time) viewers for SC2’s Grand Finals.
