- Hi ladies,
- Today I'm going to write down some general tips & hints. Maybe I'll write this all up in a real text but for now I'll make it a big list of hints & tips.
- * easy to learn or just need to know
- ** will need you to practice this
- *** only for teh dedicated
- * Ammo & Health cabinets spawn ammo at x:59 seconds. Once its been emtpied by the noobs you can always go back there as you know when the ammo spawns at exactly x:59 every minute.
- * 71 fps gives you the least recoil. Recoil is your crosshair going up when shooting luger or sniper. I personally use com_maxfps 125 on everything but my luger which uses 71 fps for easy luger headshots. Also nice on akimbo to keep it more accurate over longer range since the recoil is much easier to control.
- * engineers can give each other charge Throw a mine down on something where it cant be planted and it can picked up by a teammate engineer. Usefull when you have two engineers without charge for a dyna. This was also used in competition to have rifles shoot 3 rifles in a row and was banned from competition. Should still work on nexus though.
- * understand medics Medics are by far the most predictable class in ET with a soft spot for helping teammates. Abuse it. You killed a guy but cant kill that second medic, take cover for half a second and most people will forget you were there and start reviving. So go behind a corner and instantly come back. Theres a big chance the medic will be standing with his needle out and his pants down. Finish him!
- * stand behind people who just got revived This works in conjunction with the last tip. You kill a guy, take cover, come back instantly and see the medic with the needle out reviving. Most of the time the medic will get the revive but you got 3 seconds to kill the medic and get behind the guy who just got revived. If you make it behind the guy who just got revived, theres a good chance you'll get another easy kill.
- * leaning When you want to cornerwhore dont just stop leaning and come strafing out. Stop leaning, run back a tad, then come out strafing. This will give you a better position since you can actually strafe left and right without running into a wall. If you stay to close to the corner you will limit your mobility, since you are next to the wall. Running back a tad will give you a better position.
- * In long range crouch fights, use +forward to counter the knockback Knockback is when you are getting pushed back by bullets / nades etc. In long range fights its really usefull to either crouch left + right like mad, staying at the same position OR you crouch and +forward when getting hit. This will do a great job at reducing your aim getting off due to knockback (and prevents small errors due to antilag + knockback being bugged but I'm not going to go into the technical details)
- * Ignore screenshake When you get hit theres two things happening to your screen. First you get knockback, this will fuck up your aim and theres not much to do about it. Screenshake, this will make your crosshair jump up and down when getting hit. The trick is to ignore this shaking since its just an effect, your actual crosshair isnt moving. Ignore the screenshake.
- * You can crouch on ladders More accuracy, harder to hit. Whenever you have to shoot while being on a ladder = crouch. Its not like you are going anywhere. Just fucking do it.
- * If you have the same spawntime as the enemy like on railgun or the unedited Frostbite for example, you can use the blue timer to keep track of the enemy spawntime. I also use this on Element Purefrag which gives both teams a 12 second respawn. Its a bitch to keep track off unless you use your own blue timer which is also 12 seconds Enemy spawns on 5 on blue timer for example, and they spawn every time on 5 seconds on the blue timer. Sometimes the enemy got an annoying spawntime like 25, either you keep track of it in your head or you do this before the game starts /bind x "timerset 25". When you see the enemy spawn, push x and it will show a red timer next to your own blue respawntimer. This is now the enemy respawn. Some people even use this to keep track of 20 / 30 second spawns, use it if you like it.
- bind x "timerset 20"
- bind y "timerset 30"
- * turn off autoreload Yes, turn it off. It always makes me cry seeing medics stuck in autoreload when they want to revive. Turn it off, get used to the clip size and learn to swap to your luger instead of reloading. Just by doing this you should get the kills on all those noobs who will autoreload while you gently switch to the luger to mercifully finish them with some headshots. An little trick to lure out campers is to swap to luger shoot one or two bullets in the air and instantly switch to your smg again. A lot of campers will come out, thinking they got an easy kill on a luger medic. Rape them when they come out
- * stop giving medpacks I know you want to be the bestest medic everest, but STOP HANDING OUT MEDPACKS. When you play medic you can either heal yourself up with medpacks or revive your teammates with a needle. I'm not saying you cant give medpacks, I'm just saying 90% of the time its a waste of time. Medpacks are nice when you are moving, just spam them for your teammates. Any other time you want to have your gun up, only to switch to medpacks to heal yourself or switch to needle to heal your teammate. Learn to recognize the 'medic!' shout when somebody gets shot. You should learn to recognize these cries for help since they also tell you were your teammate died without ahving to look on the compass. (for clarification, whenever you get shot you automaticly cry out 'medic!'. This isn't the voicechat 'need a medic' or 'revive me!' which you need to do manually. Once you learn to recognize it, you can use it on instinct to revive people nearby.
- * stop spamming rifle / nades Some people just play like an open book. Most rifles on nexus will shoot a rifle and instantly recharge it. Get used to the time in between rifle (3 ish seconds) you can pretty much predict and dodge the next one. Same with nades. Be perceptive. See a teammate take a nade? Notice it. It will help you in reviving ppl who fuck up and are lying next to their own nade. Usually you can know when they started cooking it since most people switch from smg to nade and instantly cook it. Time of the swap to nade + 5 seconds, thats the time you got to revive the nub. The same applies for enemies. If you saw them take the nade, you should be able to know when it will blow, or when the next nade will come. Most noobs just spam one nade after the other and since its 2 seconds between nades you can attack in between nades.
- * Shoot first, revive later As a general rule you want to shoot first, then revive your fallen comrades. I used to play ENG smg most of the time and the last things I wanted was a medic insta reviving. Most of the times when I died my opponent had 30-40 hp max since we just had a firefight and all I wanted muditza to do was to finish up my kills, then revive me. Watch some replays of Butchji for example. Its looks cocky, its look arrogant and yes he cleans up the place before reviving. I love nothing more then medics running around with needles like mad and just popping easy headshots in them since they arent reviving. Shoot first, revive later as a general rule.
- * Be confident in your aim ET has screenshake and doesnt like you to move the mouse a lot. Be confident in your aim, dont change settings when you have a bad day. mAus might shoot 100 hs with his config, its just a config.
- * Get a decent gaming mouse Atm the most popular mice are EC zowie and Steelseries Xai. Other very good gaming mice are MX518 (renamed to G400), Razer Deathadder , Razer Diamondback, Microsoft Intelli 3.0. Dont buy into the laser mouse and high dpi advertising. I could fill a whole book about settings in ET but in general you want to use low DPI. Trust me in ET low DPI is more accurate then high DPI. This is due to how the engine is programmed. Just use a low DPI and never, ever raise the windows sensitivity. You can lower it from default (6th notch aka the middle), but never raise it above the middle.
- * Use a somewhat lower sensitivity I think a sensitivity in between 20-60 cm for a 360 turn is optimal. I personally use sens of 40 cm (=my mousepad) to turn a full circle. The lowered sensitivity is very usefull in a game that is all about tracking targets rather then point and click (like Quake railgun or the ET sniper guns). Dont overdo it, I'm a pretty low sensitivity player and I regularly run circles around people on the nexus pub. Either they run out of mousepad or they use too low a sense. Dont make this mistake. I dont recommend to change your settings unless you use a very high sensitivity, I can imagine some people playing on 10 cm = 360
- * Use your command map Your command map shows you were snipers are hiding (if spotted by one of your own snipers); it will tell you if the flag is actually taken or not when its capped and recapped 10 times in a row. It will tell you where your teammates are. Its more usefull in competetive gameplay, though still worth to have binded and learning when it can be usefull.
- ** Use your compas I use this all the time. As an ex ENG SMG I used this to know where my medic was behind me, if i needed to slow down or if i could go ahead. On pubs you want to learn to use this when nading from time to time. If you have to the time to check, do it and see if you arent about to nade your teammates. With a bit of experience you will recognize the moments when you need to check your compass before throwing those nades and it will save a lot of your teammates. Other uses of compass are not having to check sounds when you can already see your teammate on the compass and an extra way to check if somebody is a covert ops, since those dont show up on the compass or command map. Change the size of our compass, default compass size is just too big to see anything. It should be able to see about 15-20 meters around you to be effective.
- ** Learn to wait before you kill as axis This is a trick I picked up way too late in my competetive ET carreer and a tad harder to pick up since you'll need constant vigilance and attention. When playing axis, as I always do , try to kill allies after the respawn. Everyone does this when playing allies, you go camp axis spawn and rape. As Axis however there are a lot of times where you can wait before initiating / attacking your enemy or just camp a second or two longer as to get your allied enemies on full. If the timer is nearing allies respawn, consider if you can wait before killing anything.
- ** Efficiency This regularly seems to get lost on big pubs. Play effectivly. A good example of how not to play effective is Speed. On radar, Speed doesnt like to get raped so he starts camping the hill next to the truck. Even when he kills 3 people 15 seconds before their spawn, he will sit at that spot or inside the main gate till he dies or runs out of bullets. When he respawns he usually gets spawnraped so his answer to this is to run out from the back of the bunker, all the way to ammo and camp under the bridge. This by itself takes about 20 seconds, the time to respawn but nvm that. I gotten used to him faggoting like that, so I just spawnrape allies, clean out bunker and backrape Speed. Again the mastermind the wrong decision and will actually spawn at the CP to start camping the back of bunker, since I pass theres once every two minutes or so. So what would I do instead of this total waste of time, camping and running around? First off use a decent spawnpoint. This will buy you that extra second to get out of the bunker, passed the mines (more about the spawnpoints at the end of this guide) Next thing speed does, does make sense. He camps a good position, knowing Axis usually play aggresive and push the truck. So he lets them come and tries to get kills from a good position. If he actually takes down somebody he should have the brains to do something with the kills he made, depending on how much time he has left till they respawn. You could run out main, and camp the axis respawn from under the wooden bridge, further on theres a bush you can also use to hide for a spawnkill on the other Axis spawn. You could camp at the forward hut, behind the exit doors. With 14 seconds left you could even use the slope to get on west fast and take the objective. Or go up on the fake rader. What this will do is that YOU take control over the game instead of the axis throwing you around. Instead of camping inside the main gate for 20 minutes you could realize you just killed two persons 15 seconds before their spawntime and theres a huge gap in the defence at main. Use this to spawnrape, get objective or take mapcontrol. Ofcourse you could just sit at truck, but you wouldnt get away with it in a real game of ET since you need to attack, neither is it of any help to your team on a pub. It just shows that you have no options of taking control and you're only answer is to camp.
- ** Mapcontrol Is kind of a vague concept and I prolly just made it up to fit my own vision of ET. Eventhough you are limited in selfkills, this is what a normal 30 seconds as Axis should look like: Spawn, play defensive for 15 seconds, start pushing and the last 5 seconds should be a total furry where you push back the enemy or spam some nades to hold them off. By playing defensive the first 15 seconds and not dying you make sure your team holds its defence. Next comes the pushing towards the allies, having them retreat or stall. This allows for your team to safly respawn. Ofcourse you shouldnt always be doing this, but in a lot of occasions its more efficient to die and respawn with full ammo and health then to medpack and ammopack up, which doesnt even give you replenished stamina. Too bad SK doesnt give you full charge bar anymore like it did in ETmain Mapcontrol also applies to allies ofcourse, though its prolly more about understanding spawntimes and knowing what you can do with it. I guess mapcontrol for allies = gamesense aka knowing what is happening around the map.
- ** Look at the ground to make your head harder to hit Top players do this when getting caught reloading. While standing there with your pants down you can still give him a harder time by looking at the ground during the reload animation. It will make your headhitbox harder to hit, part being inside your body hitbox, the rest will be a tad lower then where it should be
- ** Nades, riflenades and bullets come out from the right of your hitbox You can throw nades around corners without people being able to see you. When taking cover behind a crate you preferable want to stick out from the right and shoot, this will give you more cover since you gun sticks out from the right.
- Practice this in warmup.
- ** Understand that ET hitboxes are cubes Most people think of hitboxes in 2D, but dont realize the actual hitbox is a 3D cube which will appear bigger or smaller depending at the angle you look at it. What can you do with this information? First off it explains the ridiculous amount of headshots you can do playing as axis on Battery in the bunker. The head hitbox is alligned with the North - South / East - West axis of the map. If you shoot from the bunker down on the beach you are shooting from in between thosedirections. Along with that, you shooting down at about a 45% degree angle. The headhitbox will be about 50% bigger then its usual size, more like this <www.gotoandplay.it/_articles/2004/07/3dCube/cube.gif>. Right, but how can we use this? First off, dont crouch when the other guy isnt crouching himself. Crouching gives you a tad more accuracy, but you will actually have a harder time hitting the head hitbox since the body hitbox will be covering part of the headhitbox. Also you might reconsider your positioning on some campingspots, though remember that when fighting on flat ground you'll both have the same advantage.
- ** Aim without moving the mouse I wont claim I'm a good aimer but heres a trick to improve your overall accuracy. If you spec a good player it will look like hes wallhacking 24/7. This is because he is preaiming through the wall or at the corner at headshot height. If somebody would come around the corner all you need to do is strafe left and right. The key thing is to get the first hit in, preaiming even preshooting will make this a lot easier. Ofcourse you need to move the mouse but try to move it as few as possible. Its just how ET aim works, it has a lot to do with movement and positioning. Clown always claimed mAus is such a good aimer because of his movement. Its not that hard to learn. I used to focus on not moving the mouse, just flick it into preaimposition and move. Once you hear or see the enemy you adjust your aim but your main focus should be to make your movement aim for you. I guess I need some clips to explain this in further detail
- ** crouch while jumping Really? Yes really. While in the air, quickly crouch and stop crouching before you land. Why would you want to do this? Theres three reasons. First off your hitbox becomes smaller and harder to hit, goes fubar a little. Second, you can jump over mines you would normally trip. On oasis, playing axis, you might have a hard time getting to CP to set up the spawnrape. Theres a good chance some nub put mines in the little cave before cp, but have no fear. You just learned how to crouchjump. If you play competetive games, this is very usefull on Supplydepot to jump the mines at east. Another reason you want to do this, is cause it allows you to have better aircontrol (changing direction while being in the air). And last but not least, It allows some trickjumps to become a lot easier. If you ever played TF2, the basics of TF2 trickjumping is that when you crouchjump, you can get onto high boxes. In ET, this also works and its really noticable for example on radar main, when you want to jump on to the fake radar. Its hard to fail the jump when crouchjumping. About the unhittability, some good players like Toxic or Night use this when they shoot the panzerfaust, knowing it will make their hitboxes go fubar. You need to learn to use this ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Once you master it, its easy as cake. This crouching while jumping also gives you a decent shot of taking people down while in the air, even shooting headshots
- Practice this in warmup.
- ** Nadebugging What is nadebugging? I need to find a vid on youtube first to explain this. What does this do? When you nadebug, you throw a nade. In the game, you move your arm, you throw the nade, you make the sound of throwing it, yet you are still keeping it in your hands. To do this trick, you need take a nade and start cooking it. Cooking means you have selected a nade and are pushing your mouse1 to 'cook' it before throwing the thing to whichever noob you want to own. Cook it for like 2 seconds, release it and immediatly start cooking it again. When you stopped cooking it for that tiny moment you make the throw animation in the game. Sadly you cant see it yourself but it fools a lot people. Why do you want to use this? Some homos like Dieter love to run around with nades 24/7 trying to get in those extra teamkills. Sometimes they run into people without the nade being full cooked. This is the perfect time to abuse this. Fake that you throw the nade, and most people will jump away out of reflex. While jumping away, they cant shoot you. Which buys you at least half a second and it becomes really easy to know where they are going After they jump away pop the actual nade and receive an easy kill. Some people might use this trick to lean, while they are holding a nade. You cant lean while cooking nade, you can when stop cooking it for a tiny second, instantly lean and proceed cooking. This might sound crazy but once you master the technique its realy ez bash! Once you release the nade now, it will just pop out of you without the whole throwing animation.
- <www.own3d.tv/video/26510/The_Bug_Project> 9m05s Shoutout to winghaven for learning me this trick
- Practice this in warmup.
- *** you can jump through walls using the tank If you bind your activate to your scrollwheel you can do the following trick. There's more places to do this, but this is the one I myself used most since it allows you to bypass the axis defences and its so easy to pull off when the tank is waiting for the barrier to explode. <www.own3d.tv/video/26510/The_Bug_Project> go to 6m15s. Activate (using scrollwheel) several times in one second and it will put you in tank, out of tank on the spot where you were standing before all in the same timeframe of the game. The game doesnt like two people at the same spot (even if its the same) and will push you back, through the wall. On the new goldrush you can use the tank to get on top of axis spawn. You can also use this to play tecno music on the piano on Venice or be annoying by banging a closed door 10 times a second.
- *** basics of spawnkilling
- nades = one second before spawn
- airstrike = 2 seconds before they spawn
- arty = 10 seconds before spawn
- Get used to certain timings. Just an example, on grush as axis and you are defending the tank. If you take a nade 4 - 5 seconds after the enemy spawn, cook it for two - three seconds and throw it out of main towards the ammo or the corner. You usually hit / kill someone. If you are camping further down, at the ammo and health, start cooking 1 second after they spawn, cook for two seconds and throw in a high upward arc down at their spawn. Again, easy hits / kills. When camping the back exit of their first spawn. I either start cooking at the last truck barrier one second before they spawn. If I cant get to the construction, I'll start cooking one second after the enemy spawn and throw it toward the last truck barrier. If I cant get to the mg in time, Ill start cooking 4 seconds after the enemy spawns and will catch them below the MG. If i cant get there in time, I'll start cooking 5-6 seconds after they spawn and will throw the nade at the next corner before they enter the ammo and health courtyard. Get used to these timings and you'll be able to rack in a lot of easy / cheap kills. I usually add 1second fto my timings when playing nexus, since most players are so slow. Just practice a bit and you'll get the timing right. Learn to throw nades in a high upward arc also, people rarely look up in the sky. Its harder to pull off but with some practice these high upward nades can be really deadly. When suiciding a great technique is to cook for 2-3 seconds and throw it straight up. With a bit of practice this will get you some extra kills. Or you could prone, throw your nade and it will make less sound, just one ting, instead of the regular two tings from the nade bouncing on the floor / wall, whatever. After you selfkill the body will even hide the nade so its harder to spot.
- *** Arty & Strikes are of limited use unless you know when they respawn. Theres usually ten nerds trying to spam some arty, so here's a trick to get it before them. Playin axis, you need to know arty spawns every 30 seconds, the same time as your own respawn. This means you can throw a can or arty every 30 seconds. You just need to know when it 'spawns' Usually its about 10-16 seconds before you spawn. Once you know when it spawns you can whore the arty. Cans are best thrown 3-4 seconds before the 'arty' respawns, though its easy for teammates to snipe it by spamming arty. Keep track of the 'arty' respawn on your blue timer. Its 30 seconds, just like your own. If you see it become available, glance at your own respawn timer and you got a good idea of when it will be come available next time.
- *** Spawnpoints Bind /bind x setspawnpt 0. Do this for 0 =>5. What does this do and why do you want to use this? This will spawn you at different places on the map. Right, but I can just click the Limbo map right? Sure you can, but by using these you can 'unlock' better & faster spawnpoints. For example, lets say you are playing Radar. We both go allies. You just spawn like everyone else, I select spawnpoint 4. You spawn, I spawn. Unlike you, I already know the exact place on the map im going to spawn and I'm already move to where I know I want to go. I'm spawning at the window and I'm already moving and shooiting it, ready to get out. In the meantime, the rest of you spawn, take a moment to figure out where you spawn and proceed with the ritual of blocking each other. Thank god you are a great teammate. After Bobs stacks you up to 30/120 ammo you go in solo flag and rape some ass. In the end we both die to a tk nade from Dieter and respawn. As we both spawn at the bunker I'm spawning at the exit of the bunker, while you spawn at the flag. I even got time to run outside of the bunker with my spawnshield, tripping mines like i just dont care. As we secure main and head for the cp. Again clean out the place spraying hs everywhere. Bohemian Bob comes in, fixes us that cp and we are all ready to go attack the East radar parts. Outsides await 10 axis, a minefield and some arty spam. We all spawn. I spawn one meter from the CP exit, whil you spawn close to the mg. I just hop outside, past most of the spam using my spawnshield and get in some easy hits while im invincible. What do I want to tell you? Use them bloody spawnpoints. As axis I would start out using spawnpoint 2 on radar. Gets my the best spot to exit the the spawn without getting blocked and making sure I get that first airstrike off. Anyone can throw that strike and got those easy early 2-3 kills, you just need to know to use spawnpoint 2 So ladies plz bind this in your config. Some people prefer to make an autoexec_mapname.cfg and manually add the spawnpoints they use that map. I just learned them by heart.
- /bind x setspawnpt 0
- /bind y setspawnpt 1
- ...
- /bind z setspawnpt 5
- These are the spawnpoints that I personally use.
- Radar
- Axis:
- 2 fast exit toward CP, will spawn you at forward hut when you loose the flag
- 4 spawns you forward hut, no matter what
- 5 back spawn
- Allies
- 4 fast exit first spawn, fast exit bunker spawn
- 5 fast exit cp spawn
- Goldrush OLD VERSION
- Axis
- 3 fast exit first spawn
- 3 + 5 fast exit last spawn
- Allies
- 4 fast exit first spawn
- Railgun
- Axis
- 4 spawns you at the tower first, later on it will spawn you at the depot yard whenever possible
- Oasis
- Allies
- 1 will spawn you at the ammo instead of the old city flag. Closer to axis and easy to grab an ammo pack. Dont take more then one
- As a general rule use 4 to spawn as allies. Axis can be 2 3 or 4 depending on the map, wether you attack or defend etc. 0 will reset you to default spawn. In general 1 is closer to allies. 5 is closer to axis. This is only for stock maps and even then the mapmakers somehow fuckup.
- Practice this in warmup.
- Thats all for now, any feedback or questions would be appreciated. If things got too messy or complicated, please point out and I'll rewrite. The timings on goldrush prolly just need a simple video
