The early morning sun shown through a cloudy sky to illuminate a broken biplane on the beach. Amy loosened her grip from the Tornado’s wing before looking around to make sure everyone else was alright. Tails pressed his head against the dashboard as Shadow jumped to the ground. He gave the sand a good kick before starting off  his rant.

“Sonic has wasted our time!” Shadow clenched his fists before turning around to talk at whomever was listening. “How long ago could we have walked into Eggman’s base and taken his emeralds? A few weeks? Months?! Why did we have to wait for Sonic to blind himself before we decided this was a good idea!?”

Amy was about to correct Shadow and mention that Sonic’s blindness was Eggman’s fault but she kept her mouth closed as Shadow did not look like he was in the mood for reasoning. With no response from his audience, Shadow continued.

“And when we do get all 7 chaos emeralds what do we do? We waste the super state on a blind hedgehog!” Shadow took a seat in the sand, defeated. “Now, we have no chaos emeralds. They’ve all dispersed into their special zones.”

Amy did not know whether to say anything or not. She looked at the sight before her. Shadow pouting in the sand and Tails sulking in the cockpit. “Cheer up, guys! We haven’t lost all hope!”

Shadow ignored her as he continued his rant. Shadow’s yelling had turned into a defeated mumble. “What were we even thinking, taking a liability like Sonic into Eggman’s base like that...”

Tails finally lifted his head up to confront Shadow. “Why don’t you try going blind and see how you like it!”

Shadow stood up to get closer to Tail’s eye level. “Sonic and I got into the same situation. You know what the difference is?” Shadow pointed at his eyes. “I can still see! Sonic got cocky and you know it. All of this is his fault. Everything leading up to this moment is his fault!”

The upset fox stood up in the cockpit to look down on Shadow. “I don’t see you doing anything to…!”

Amy interrupted them. “Tails! Shadow! Cut it out!” She had both of their attention. “Sonic wouldn’t want us fighting like this. Besides, we still need to rescue him!”

Tails sat back down and leaned his head back. He let out a long sigh before sharing his insight. “We won’t have any place to take Sonic back to at this current rate. With the Chaos Emeralds gone, I’m not sure how long it’ll be before Eggman finds Cocoa Island.”

The feminine hedgehog looked at Tails, then focused her attention to Shadow who had sat back down. “Then we need to find some chaos emeralds. If we lose Cocoa Island...” She did not want to think about the consequences. Cocoa Island was one of the last places on Mobius free from Eggman’s terror. Amy changed the subject. “Besides, Sonic will be fine! I believe in him and so should you guys! He may be blind for now, but he’s still Sonic!”

“For now...” Tails muttered. If the chaos emeralds didn’t work, what other options do we have?

Shadow stood up again. “We’ll address that if we get to that point. For now, we don’t even know where Eggman is taking Sonic.”

Tails lifted his head back up. “How do you know Eggman’s captured Sonic?”

“Sonic’s super state only lasts for a short amount of time. Eggman probably figured out soon after Sonic went super that he couldn’t see.” Shadow crosses his arms and broke eye contact from the fox, preparing himself for Tails’ next barrage of words. “That hedgehog was easy pickings for the doctor.”

Instead, Shadow caught the eye contact of Amy who was giving him an evil stare. She quickly let up after realizing that Shadow had a point. “Well...” she resolved. “We don’t know where Sonic is and Cocoa Island is in danger of being discovered if we don’t find any chaos emeralds soon. We better start looking for some!” Amy couldn’t help but feel a little better about Sonic being Eggman’s prisoner. It sounded better than leaving Sonic to fend and navigate for himself either somewhere the ruins of Eggman’s base or in the wilderness beyond.

Tails could not argue with Amy’s logic. He finally got out of the biplane and started towards his workshop. The tornado had plenty of repairs to be made before it would be flight worthy again.

This was a much shorter chapter than usual! I cut it off pretty short because it seemed like a logical place to stop. The only major thing that happens here is that Amy, Shadow and Tails agree on a plan: to find the chaos emeralds then look for Sonic.
