  1. Below are the 8 Troop Leading Procedures as prescribed in Army Field Manual (FM) 7-8, Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad.

  3. TLPS's are conducted during all phases of an operation. Phases may include, but are not limited to:
  4. -Planning
  5. -Movement
  6. -Execution
  7. -Reconsolidation/Reorganization
  8. -Movement to follow-on Objectives
  9.  
  10. 1. Receive the Mission
  11. -This can be in the form of a fully issued Operations Order (OPORD), Fragmentary Order (FRAGO), Warning Order (WARNO) or any directive by command.
  12. -In this step, METT-TC must be analyzed.
  13. -Mission: What it is.
  14. -Enemy Considerations: Composition, disposition, location.
  15. -Terrain: How will the terrain or weather dictate movement to and actions on.
  16. -Troops: What BLUFOR are available to execute, to include assets.
  17. -Time: What is the timeline for completion or timeframe to complete.
  18. -Civil Considerations: Are civilians present. If so, disposition, composition, location.

  20. 2. Issue a Warning Order (WARNO)
  21. -The Who, What, When, Where and Why given to subordinate leaders/Soldiers.
  22. -Usually a simplified OPORD
  23. -Situation: Friendly, enemy.
  24. -Mission: What it is and initial rehearsals (MOUT, CQB, KOB, AMBUSH, etc.)
  25. -Execution: Who is executing.
  26. -Sustainment: Supplies needed, ACE on current status.
  27. -Command & Signal: Chain of Command, radio frequencies, etc.

  29. 3. Make a tentative plan
  30. -Minimum of a map reconnaissance.
  31. -Leaders reconnaissance, aerial reconnaissance and field reconnaissance are other methods as well.
  32. -Draw up initial plan of movement and execution and prepare to brief subordinates.

  34. 4. Begin necessary movement
  35. -Conducted upon boarding of vehicles at Assembly Area (AA) at BLUFOR base, movement from a Patrol Base (PB) or movement from one Objective (OBJ) to another.
  36. -Encompasses the movement phase of the operation.

  38. 5. Reconnoiter
  39. -Patrol Leader, Squad Leader or Fireteam Leader reconnoiters the movement and target area.
  40. -Utilize forward scouting, local national forces friendly to BLUFOR operations, patrol scouts organic to the element or assets available from other BLUFOR in the Area of Operations (AO)
  41. -Purpose is to identify Key Terrain, Avenues of Approach, Observation and Fields of Fire, Obstacles to movement, Cover and Concealment (OAKOC), as well as FIND, FIX and DESTROY the enemy.

  43. 6. Complete the plan
  44. -Finalize staging positions for the element.
  45. -Set left and right limits of fire for Supporting and Maneuvering elements.
  46. -Set fire control measures (Shift fire RIGHT, LEFT; LIFT fire; CEASE fire).
  47. -Set Casualty Collection Points (CCP) and Enemy Collection Points (EPW).

  49. 7. Issue the complete order
  50. -Issue timeline
  51. -Reiterate TASKS and PURPOSES of each element (Support, TASK: Support Maneuver elements movement to OBJ, PURPOSE: to provide a screen of BLUFOR fire and consolidate enemy forces).
  52. -Delegate command to subordinate leaders and special teams (Demolitions, Medical, RATELO, etc.)

  54. 8. Supervise (Refine)
  55. -Supervise rehearsals, actions on movement and actions on the objective.
  56. -Refine the task and purpose to better tailor, prior to execution.
  57. -Allow subordinates to execute in their own lane, DO NOT MICROMANAGE.
