  7. Word Roots (list 6) - With your partners, try to think of one or two words to explain the meaning of each root
  8. re (recycle, rebound, reuse, recline) = again/back
  9. reg (regulation, regent, regime) = rule
  10. retro (retrograde, retroactive, retrospect) = backwards (The “tra” or “tro” ending suggests direction.)
  11. rupt (disrupt, rupture) = break/burst
  12. scend (ascend, descend, transcend) = climb
  13. scope/skep/spec (microscope, skeptic, spectacle) = see
  14. scrib/script (transcript, scripture, inscribe) = write/draw
  15. sect/seg (section, bisect, sector, segment, insect) = cut/divide
  16. semi (semicircle, semiannual) = half (This is from Latin. The Greek root is “hemi”.)
  17. sol (solitude, desolate) = alone
  18. sol (solar, solarium) = Sun
  19. soph (philosophy, sophisticated) = knowledge/wisdom
  20. struct (construct, structure) = build
  21. sub (subterranean, submerge, substandard) = under
  22. super (superstructure, supersonic) = over
  23. tele (telephone, telescope, telepathy) = far
  24. term (determine, terminate, terminus, terminal) = end/limit
  25. (When you make a word for something, you define or determine limits around an idea.)
  26. terra/terri (territory, terrain) = earth/land
  27. therm (thermometer, thermal) = heat
  28. trans (transport, transaction, transverse, translucent, transcontinental, transatlantic) = across/through
  29. ultra (ultraviolet, ultrasound) = over
  30. uni (universe, unique, unilateral) = one
  31. vac (vacuum, vacate, evacuate) = empty
  32. veri (verify, veracity) = true
  33. viv/vit (vital, vivacious) = life
  34. vol (benevolent, volunteer, volition) = will
  35. xeno (xenophobia, xenophile) = strange/foreign/alien
  36. zoo (zoology, zooplankton) = animal
