  7. Chapter 25.
  8.
  9. Initially, neither Sucy nor Diana had been terribly keen on the concept of Halloween, as neither ailed from a household where the holiday had been widely celebrated or recognized.
  10.
  11. However, ever since they had fallen into a relationship with a certain Akko Kagari, it had been simply impossible to ignore the festivities of Halloween any longer.
  12.
  13. This year, being they were students at Luna Nova, the girls were permitted to give out candy and enjoy their night off with friends.
  14.
  15. And of course, Akko had insisted on dressing up, therefore Sucy and Diana had decided to be the best of girlfriends and humor her. Because even though neither of them particularly cared for Halloween beyond the historical significance it held for witches, they knew it would make Akko very happy.
  16.
  17. So after setting their pride aside, the two witches had flown into town together one afternoon to costume hunt.
  18.
  19. As they enter the Halloween store, they gaze around at the selection of outfits accustomed to the holiday; skeletons, zombies, pumpkins, various animals, and princesses. Sucy glances up at her pointed hat, then down at the broom in her hand and shrugs.
  20.
  21. "Do we really need to do this?" she mumbles. "We've got the perfect clothes already."
  22.
  23. "Under normal circumstances, I would agree," Diana says. "But for Akko's sake, I believe we should try wearing something other than our Luna Nova uniforms."
  24.
  25. "Guess so…"
  26.
  27. They both look around at all the people and children shopping and are quiet for a moment. Diana blushes just at the idea of doing any of this, but it's for Akko.
  28.
  29. "Now then…" she says. "How might we go about this?"
  30.
  31. "Beats me. Guess we just pick stuff out and then try it on."
  32.
  33. "I see… Very well."
  34.
  35. So the pair of witches - who look like they belong as models for costumes rather than customers - begin scouring the store for outfits that strike their fancy. Diana tucks several under her arm before reconvening with Sucy, who is also carrying a few.
  36.
  37. They then head off to the changing room area, which seems awfully crowded. In order to save space, and considering they are both classmates and girlfriends, they decide it permissible to share the same changing stall.
  38.
  39. Or at least, Diana had thought it a good idea, until she realizes it means she'll have to undress in front of Sucy. Her face turns pink just to think about it. It really shouldn't matter all that much though, because they had changed in front of many classmates many times for gym class in the locker rooms. Although she most typically undressed in Hannah or Barbara's presence above anyone else's, Diana had changed in front of Akko, Sucy, and many other witches before.
  40.
  41. But for some reason this feels different; it isn't on school grounds, and it's only Sucy and herself here.
  42.
  43. Diana fidgets food a moment, trying to make herself look busy by flipping through the outfits she'd chosen, keeping her back to Sucy. But when she does dare to turn around to asker something, Diana is flustered beyond words to see Sucy shed her robes in one swift motion, without a care in the world. Diana quickly turns away and tries to get ahold of herself.
  44.
  45. As Sucy is trying on one of the outfits she'd chosen, which was a [urple vampire-like sort pf dress, she notes Diana's stiffness and can't resist the urge to tease her.
  46.
  47. "There's no need to be embarrassed, y'know. We do this all the time at school."
  48.
  49.
  50. "I-I am aware!" Even so, Diana is too red in the face to turn and face her again. Sucy slips into the dress and glides over to poke her. Diana yelps and blushes until she sees Sucy has put the dress on. Sucy snickers.
  51.
  52. "You sure are sensitive."
  53.
  54. "W-We are not on campus!" Diana defends herself. "Such an environment is simply-"
  55.
  56.
  57. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. Anyways, how does this one look?"
  58.
  59. "Eh? Oh." Diana blinks, letting the blush fade as she looks Sucy up and down. The popped, frilled collar of the dress, along with the cuffed sleeves give it a vintage air, and the purple fabrics are shimmering with black sparkles. "I think it suits you. Though it seems a bit too large…?"
  60.
  61. Sucy heaves a dramatic sigh.
  62.
  63. "Yeah. Must be nice to have a figure like yours."
  64.
  65.
  66. "I beg your pardon-?"
  67.
  68. "Y'know. A fuller figure," Sucy smirks. "Someone like me can't pull most outfits off like you could."
  69.
  70. "W-Whatever could you mean?"
  71.
  72.
  73. "Here." Sucy pulls out a light blue princess dress from Diana's pile of clothes. "Put this on and you'll see what I mean."
  74.
  75. Puzzled, Diana slowly exchanges her robes for the dress while Sucy watches. As soon as the dress is on her, Diana feels it's not a good fit either.
  76.
  77. "It seems a bit too short for my liking," she says, pulling at the ends to ensure they at least reach her thighs.
  78.
  79. "And the size is too small, right?" Sucy guesses.
  80.
  81. "Yes… It is a bit tight…"
  82.
  83.
  84. "Then it's perfect."
  85.
  86.
  87. "Eh?"
  88.
  89. "Don't you think? Generally, someone with a figure like yours could pull that off because you fill into it so well."
  90.
  91.
  92. "F-Fill in…?" Diana starts turning pink again and quickly grabs her robes to hold them over herself. Sucy chuckles.
  93.
  94. "It was supposed to be a compliment. Pretty girls like you can wear that kinda stuff."
  95.
  96. Diana blinks, tilting her head a little.
  97.
  98. "Anyone could wear this if the size were fitting."
  99.
  100. But Sucy shakes her head.
  101.
  102. "Nah. Someone like me or Akko could never pull that off."
  103.
  104.
  105. "And why ever not?"
  106.
  107. "We don't have the right physique."
  108.
  109. Diana glances down at herself, then back at Sucy with a frown.
  110.
  111. "I would think anyone could dress as they please, regardless of what others think of it. The only reason you should not wear something would be if you did not want to. What others think is irrelevant, no?"
  112.
  113. "Sure would be nice if the world worked that way," Sucy sighs. "But I'll stick to my usual stuff. Something like this." She picks up a mummy costume from her pile of clothes, something bland and colorless that would look rather baggy, no doubt.
  114.
  115. Diana is skeptical.
  116.
  117. "Is that what is most comfortable for you?"
  118.
  119.
  120. "I guess. I dunno."
  121.
  122. "Then why not try them all?" She suggest. "If you would prefer to wear something different than your usual style, then you should feel free to, Sucy. Akko and I certainly wouldn't mind. In fact, I'm certain she would be thrilled."
  123.
  124. Sucy looks back over her shoulder. She'd never really cared too much about this sort of thing, so she's surprised at herself for bringing up the topic and mulling it over so much.
  125.
  126. "Then same goes for you."
  127.
  128. "Pardon?"
  129.
  130. "Your outfit," Sucy clarifies. "If you think it's too short or too uncomfortable, then don't wear it. Go with something you like. Pretty girls should have cozy clothes too."
  131.
  132.
  133. "I'm still not sure what you mean by that term," Diana shakes her head. "But all right."
  134.
  135. So they each try on something different. Sucy chooses a different dress, one with red accents and a slimmer shape. And Diana chooses something much more modest than her first dress, one that is longer and poofier, a bit childish perhaps, but very comfortable and loose. They admire one another in their new outfits when ready.
  136.
  137. "My," Diana says in surprise. "Sucy, you look stunning."
  138.
  139.
  140. "You think? I actually kind of like it, even if it is just for a day." She looks Diana over in her new pink dress as well. "That one looks nice, too. You don't seem so stiff."
  141.
  142. "Thank you."
  143.
  144. They exchange smiles before Sucy caves into her more mischievous side again, slipping close to Diana and wrapping both arms around her from behind.
  145.
  146. "Though it's a bit of a shame. I wouldn't have minded seeing you in something a bit more revealing~"
  147.
  148. "S-Sucy!"
  149.
  150. "I'm just kiddin.' Mostly."
  151.
  152.
  153. "Heavens…" Diana blushes so hard she has to hide her face in her hands, giving Sucy ample opportunity to nuzzle into her neck and nip little kisses there. Diana only lets her do so until her knees begin to feel weak and she has to pry her off. Sucy chuckles.
  154.
  155.
  156. "You're pretty cute."
  157.
  158.
  159. "Honestly, Sucy…" Diana relents and gives in to a kiss, one a bit warmer and heavier than it has any right being in a costume store changing room. But before Sucy can drink her in too much, Diana parts from it and hastily has them clean up and change back it into their uniforms so they can make their purchases.
  160.
  161. They both learned a bit of a lesson together today while shopping, one of comfort and self-acceptance, and one they won't soon forget.
  162.
  163. Needless to say, Akko is ecstatic about both of their outfit choices when they return, and both Sucy and Diana are beyond amused to see that Akko had decided on a generic witch costume anyway, since being a witch was her dream year-round.
  164.
  165. The three witches enjoy a fun Halloween with their friends and each other, with smiles all around throughout the night.
  166.
  167. --------
  168.
  169. A/N: Sucy and Diana discussing their physiques and body types... I wasn't sure where this one would go, but as I wrote it the lines just came to me. I feel Sucy might be outwardly flippant and uncaring about that sort of thing but deep down she might hav some insecurities too. And Diana, who would be outwardly bashful about the topic, has strong feelings on it when asked to consider it.
