- Overview:
- The Jian Che was developed in the 3120s, initially as a development test bed
- for new chassis for Ceres Metal Industries, but its effective use of AES as
- well as the Command Console in combat trials prompted CMI to begin development
- and sale of the design.
- Capabilities:
- The Jian Che, designed as a development platform, lacks an expensive engine,
- giving the BattleMech a standard ground speed for a mech its size, 32 km/h
- while also using an Endo-Steel skeleton to provide a maximum amount of spare
- tonnage devoted to weaponry, despite the lack of internal space. A holdover
- from the unit's testbed days, the cockpit has been enlarged and mounts a
- Command Console, turning the Jian Che into an effective command unit able to
- provide detailed orders and combat data to the Jian Che's lance and company
- mates. An Angel ECM suite was installed in the 'Mech's center torso, to give
- the unit a modicum of Anti-ECM support.
- The Jian Che does not skimp on weaponry, with the left arm mounting an AES
- augmented Clan spec ER PPC, purchased from the Sea Foxes for the Yinghuochong,
- but used on this platform as well, along with a pair of Small Variable Speed
- Pulse Lasers. The right arm mounts a Silver Bullet Gauss Rifle, chosen to
- assist the ER PPC in exploiting weaknesses in enemy armor. Finally, for missile
- support, the Jian Che mounts a pair of MML-5 launchers, one in each torso, with
- two tons of ammo apiece, allowing the Jian Che's pilots to lay down a small
- minefield or incinerate the battlefield if the need arises. Both side torsos
- are protected by CASE II.
- Deployment:
- The Jian Che currently receives a limited deployment, appearing in the Sian
- Dragoons, Tikonov Guards, and the Capellan Chargers. The Jian Che has so far
- proven itself a reliable, though somewhat maintenance intensive unit.
- The most notable engagement of the Jian Che was during the Seventh Capellan
- Chargers' assault on the GM plant at Kathil, where Sang-wei Allison Wu and her
- adjutant Sao-wei Pyotr Kaznov traded combat duties and communications work in
- their Jian Che -2C over a three hour running battle with the Eighth Avalon
- Hussars, leading the defenders on a hectic chases throughout the plant and
- confusing the enemy by swapping duties when out of sight of the enemy. Between
- the two pilots, 6 vehicles and 5 BattleMechs were KIA, though they were forced
- to abandon their Jian Che when its left leg was severed by enemy fire.
- Variants:
- There are two variants of the Jian Che as of this writing. The first, the -2C,
- is a popular variant that swaps out the maligned SB Gauss for a standard Rifle,
- turning the Jian Che into a sniper unit. The second variant, the -3C, is much
- more radical. Keeping only the ER PPC, the SB Gauss Rifle is replaced with a
- Rotary AC/5, while the pair of VSPLs in the left arm are repalced with a single
- Medium VSPL, and the MML-5s are replaced with a pair of LRM-10s.
- Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
- Sang-wei Allison Wu and Sao-wei Pyotr Kaznov: The exploits of Wu and Kaznov
- have already been turned into propoganda by the Capellan media machine, while
- both officers have returned to the field. Kaznov has been promoted to Sang-wei
- himself, and like Sang-wei Wu, commands his company from a Jian Che.
