  1. Novis Community Black Mesa Roleplay Ruleset and Guide
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.
  6.
  7. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with this set of rules that we have provided to accompany our server. We here at Novis ask that you understand that violating these rules can result in a community, or server-wide ban, and other punishments. Thank you for playing within our community, as we have put our time and effort into the server, and enforcing these rules to keep a fun, enjoyable atmosphere and server.

  13.
  14.
  15.
  16.
  17. Generally Understood, Simple Rules:
  18.
  19. Do not use In-Character chat for anything other than in-character chat and actions.
  20.
  21.
  22. Do not abuse props, flags, or whitelists given to you.
  23.
  24.
  25. Use and roleplay with a realistic and legitimate name and description. (No characters that are widely known, famous, or declared unusable by staff.)
  26.
  27.
  28. If someone is breaking the rules, tell an admin, or post a forum thread.
  29.
  30.
  31. Private messages sent via the /pm are always considered to be an action taken out of character, and are not allowed to be used in character.
  32.
  33.
  34. If you start an event, combat, or passive roleplay, do not leave in the middle of it because you are bored or just for the fun of it.
  35.
  36.
  37. Combat and Passive logging, or disconnecting during RP is not allowed and will get you character banned.

  52. Specific, and Explained Rules
  53.
  54. 1). Metagaming is the act of using OOC information for your character. This is strictly prohibited, and those found guilty of such actions will be faced with a warning, and eventually a potential ban of the character. Making a mistake is just that, a mistake, but if repeated, it is an offense.
  55.
  56.
  57. An example of metagaming is but not limited to;
  58.
  59.
  60. [OOC] Xavier Dawson: Shit I dropped my fifty-caliber sniper rifle in the lab when a prop killed me.
  61. [OOC] Huey Lewis: Oh fam, good thing I’m not anywhere near there.
  62.
  63.
  64. Huey Louis would walk into the laboratory and pick up the fallen rifle, slinging it over his shoulder.
  65.
  66.
  67. In this case, Huey had no in-character knowledge of the item, and his action of taking it is null, and metagame’d.
  68.
  69. 2). Powergaming is the act of forcing your actions on someone without giving them the chance to respond/reply. This is strictly prohibited, and can lead to a ban of your character, and if repeated, eventually banishment from the server itself.
  70.
  71.
  72. An example of powergaming is but not limited to;
  73.
  74.
  75. Tyrannus Valor punches you in the stomach, hitting you again with his right fist, then taking out a knife and stabbing you in the neck, killing you instantly. Would also take your weapon.
  76.
  77.
  78. In this case of powergaming, Valor is taking repeated actions, without giving the other person in the action a chance to react, defend, or respond to the first action taken. A correct example would go something like this.
  79.
  80.
  81. Tyrannus Valor would attempt to swing his hand into the man’s stomach, trying to strike him.
  82.
  83.
  84. This gave the other person in the action a chance to react.
  85.
  86.
  87.
  88.
  89.
  90.
  91.
  92.
  93. 3). Erotic Roleplay (ERP) is the act of performing explicit erotic roleplay in detail. This is strictly prohibited, and all those found guilty of alluding to or attempting to find a loophole from this rule will be banned from Novis.
  94.
  95.
  96. There is no example for this, you dirty twat.
  97.
  98.
  99. 4). Do not engage in Fail Roleplay (FailRP). FailRP is loosely defined as an act that is not probable nor realistic within the respectable universe that the server is set in, or an action that is suitable for a character’s position. This can be limited by trying to act as your character would in real life, and maintaining qualities that other people could usually attain for.
  100.
  101.
  102. There are perhaps an infinite amount of examples of Fail Roleplay, some of which are defined as minging, game-breaking, lore-breaking, and rule-breaking activities.
  103.
  104.
  105. 5). Do not disrespect other players or staff. Follow the Golden Rule in cases as these, do unto others as you expect them to do upon you. If there are names, or even loose insults being thrown around between friends in a joking manner, (excluding specific racial, or other severely derogatory remarks), it is simply all in good fun.
  106.
  107.
  108. This also pertains to bullying other characters out-of-character, or excessively criticizing someone past the point of being constructive.
  109.
  110.
  111. 6). Do not hack, cheat, steal, exploit, or break the game or gamemode in any way. Regardless of intent or reason and purpose, this is against the server’s rules, and you will be permanently banned for doing so. This includes duplicating items, exploiting glitches, cheating roleplay systems, and hacking internal fundamentals of the server. No exceptions.
  112.
  113.
  114. There are no excuses for this type of activity. If you find a game-breaking glitch or exploit, report it to other staff who are online, or make a thread about it on our forums.
  115.
  116.
  117. 7). Do not perform Random Deathmatch (RDM; the act of killing a player or group of players with no reason or purpose, out of context and character). This will get you permanently banned from our servers.
  118.
  119.
  120. RDM can and does include prop-killing, mass-shooting, hacking kills, and all other forms of out-of-character killing.
