  1. Ultimately I do want a version of the planned ZSF power source for my own purposes. It'd be cool if that saw it's way through in ZSF but I'm more focused on trying to get it down. I'm gonna outline it in simple/dumb terms because my academic vernacular for chemistry is really shitty atm.

  3. Whether it followed ZSF's guidelines or not, I've always figured that the crystal was going to be centerpiece. a piece of aether, alien material, previously undiscovered element, what teh frick ever. It's an old shtick (or series of, lol) that ultimately summed up to it being initially foreign enough that conventional scientific analysis wouldn't be able to piece it together, and it would require special means (mania studiez or metaphysics) to determine the thing was a -beast- if harnessed properly.

  7. I like the mish-mash of trying to make sense of the arc reactor. The shtick with that though makes me think in my mind using the crystal (at least in some fashion) like the element that Stark invented in Iron Man 2 to replace Palladium. Course, that's where genius would have to come in because even if it wasn't a blatant ripoff of the arc reactor's radiation circuit, the technology to utilize that would require a genius to create. But not a big deal. I'd just have to play with things that play on the crystal that aren't direct ripoffs.

  9. the magic alternative rests in an area not unlike that old irc musing log I pulled
  10.
  11. [14:22] <Gambit> Lightning + Balance + Space + Solar + Life + Creation + ???
  12. [14:24] <Drake> Space&Solar are the same tier, Light would be better at getting energy out of something then ballance (which returns things to their natural state)
  13. [14:24] <Gambit> I know space and solar are same tier
  14. [14:24] <Gambit> but space would be useful for a containment field
  15. [14:24] <Drake> Or are you trying to create fusion here?
  16. [14:24] <Gambit> sorta kinda
  17. [14:24] <Drake> Ballnce+Order would be a good combo for that then
  18. [14:25] <Drake> Order+Solar to create the fusion process and then Ballance to keep it stable and running
  19. [14:25] <Gambit> there's this crystal in the protoss research tree, by itself it's just flavor for the process of getting the actual upgrades going, but...
  20. [14:26] <Gambit> this crystal is basically growing and it created a self-containing energy sphere, which the crystal draws from
  21. [14:26] <Gambit> the sphere itself almost looks like a spatial entity
  22. [14:27] <Gambit> which is why I mentioned both solar and space
  23. [14:28] <Gambit> because solar is your standard BS for mass fusion energy
  24. [14:28] <Gambit> but space and/or order with the crystals could produce a containment field to keep it contained

  26. [14:35] <Drake> huh
  27. [14:36] <Gambit> Lightning + Life + Creation = Plasma-charged semi-sentient crystals || Solar + Order + Crystals = Fusion + Balance = Stability + Space = Contained Plasma Fusion Field || That + ??? = A stable self-sustaining magical power crystal
  28. [14:37] <Gambit> the ??? would be helpful in keeping it from both being volatile as well as being safe to get close to
  29. [14:37] <Drake> Basicly a semi-entient crystal powerplant that draws matter and mana to it to remain self-substaining and output access energy. As long as their's matter, it'll slowly "feed" it'ss elf.
  30. [14:39] <Gambit> keeping it 'fed' would be a simple manner of using a 'fuel' crystal and filling it with lightning or solar magic, someone highly proficient would have a lot of free mana to do that, and if the whole thing was made well, it would be able to last a very long time
  31.
  32. While I prolly wouldn't go that direct method anymore (and magic would cut out the intricates of tech required or at least mitigate it with craft technique/enchanting combos), it would be resting in some form of fusion, preferably cold fusion (whether forced by science or magic failsafes). Either way:
  33.
  34. Step 1: Crystals installed in experimental reactor plant. The core would be be secured by energy/radiation-resistant containment fields.
  35. Step 2: An undetermined catalyst would be introduced, most likely as a primary ignition form of reaction for the energy required or perhaps the base form of energy itself. Due to the crystal's large costs to even activate in the first place, it would be a costly procedure (either in time or in up front catalyst).
  36. Step 3: When the necessary ignition conditions are met, the crystal would begin it's emission cycles. I imagine that the crystal consumes external energies not of itself for it's own sustenance; keeping it in a proper containment environment would cycle the crystal's radiation would prevent it from growing (too much if at all) and instead emit energy.
  37. Step 4: Energy is contained and converted either for traditional use or through technology invented for it
  38.
  39. What it emits is probably less than ideal for it's personal growth and would bounce between a growth and decay cycle. If it's emissions -stayed- pure aether-grade I suspect even trying to play the Pd-103 & Pd-107 ploy the crystal would either be unable to sustain it's reaction and snuff out, like ZSF attempts to utilize John's crystal have. There has to be a stage of decay somewhere, whether it's a secondary step after initial collection or caused within the original reaction.

  43. That link is essential going the Jenova's Witness route in absense of the preferred catalysts; TAKE IT FROM ZE LIIIIFEZ. Though that's easily adaptable and would have consequences John wouldn't necessarily want to deal with XD
