- Lawmakers veto WKCD scrutiny
- 28-06-2013
- Lawmakers have voted against a motion to urge the government to examine the rising construction costs of the West Kowloon Cultural District, even though most agreed that expenses are soaring, and the $21.6 billion of public money already allocated to the project probably won't be enough.
- Councillors voted it down anyway because many were unhappy with racist comments made by the man who moved the motion, Christopher Chung of the DAB. He said foreigners should not have been appointed to manage the project because they were "flawed by nature" and they "knew nothing about Hong Kong".
- Australian Michael Lynch is the CEO of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. He joined the Authority in July 2011.
