  35. ----------------------------------------------
  36. 1.0 - What is a Troll?
  37. ----------------------------------------------
  38. A troll is a person who sows discord on the internet by upsetting people with the sole intent to disrupt or destroy positivity, often for their own amusement
  39.
  40.
  41. ----------------------------------------------
  42. 1.1 - What is Trolling?
  43. ----------------------------------------------
  44. Trolling is basically provoking people to get an emotional response by targeting (or phishing for) weakpoints of the 'target' with the intend to gain a negitive result.
  45.
  46.
  47. ----------------------------------------------
  48. 1.2 - Why trolling?
  49. ----------------------------------------------
  50. Trolling is done for several reasons which range from harmless to dangerous.
  51. - Fun; tempting people into useless discussions.
  52. - Boredom; randomly targeting people to achieve a feeling of power/control.
  53. - Deception; Targeting people with the intend to distract them from their primary goal(s).
  54. - Harassment; Continued trolling of a specific target, sometimes without a Obvious reason.
  55. - Revenge; Trolling a target because friends or group-members where targeted. (the infinite loop).
  56. - Removal; Targeting with the intent to remove a target from a group, goal or community.
  57. - Elimination; Extreme trolling without any limits. Risking depression, self-harm or even suicide.
  58.

  61.
  62. ----------------------------------------------
  63. 2.1 - Anti trolling, step one
  64. ----------------------------------------------
  65. <IDENTIFY>
  66. One needs to recognize or identify a troll before counter measures can be taken.
  67. 90% of the trolls use a known strategy and are easy to identify, the other 10% will take more time to recognize.
  68. If the actions/results of a possible troll are useless, irritating, frustating, annoying or just plain negative then it can be identified as a troll.
  69.
  70.
  71. ----------------------------------------------
  72. 2.2 - Anti trolling, step two
  73. ----------------------------------------------
  74. <IGNORE>
  75. This is the most simple (and effective) step against trolling.
  76. Without exception, EVERY troll is aiming for an emotional response,
  77. so ignoring ("Don't feed the trolls") the troll(s) is taking away their weapon.
  78. No response is equal to no result.
  79.
  80.
  81. ----------------------------------------------
  82. 2.1 - Anti trolling, step three
  83. ----------------------------------------------
  84. <BLOCK>
  85. As most trolls will continue to harrass or irritate you, they must be eliminated.
  86. This is easily done by blocking or muting.
  87. By simply blocking all trolls, one will achieve a peacefull and positive 'work environment'
  88.
  89.
  90. ----------------------------------------------
  91. 2.1 - Anti trolling, step four
  92. ----------------------------------------------
  93. <ALERT>
  94. After all previous steps are executed succesfully, friends or other group members can be informed about the troll(s).
  95. This way they can easily perform step three and also block the identified troll(s).
  96. This provides the collective benefits of mass identifying/blocking trolls.
  97.
  98.
  99. ----------------------------------------------
  100. 2.1 - Anti trolling, summary
  101. ----------------------------------------------
  102. <IDENTIFY> --> <IGNORE> --> <BLOCK> --> <ALERT>
  103. Don't respond, don't 'defend' yourself, don't engage in discussions..
  104.
  105.
  106. ----------------------------------------------
  107. 2.5 - Anti trolling, secret weapons
  108. ----------------------------------------------
  109. Beware these secret weapons as they are based on reacting, which is the one thing a troll wants!
  110.
  111. (It's impossible to write a complete tutorial on this, so please accept this summary instead.)
  112. - OUTSMARTING; Be smarter than the troll. Show you know their goals, methods or identities.
  113. - FUNKILL; Humor can be a funny weapon, the troll is put a fool possibly even publicly.
  114. - COUNTERING; Engaging in 'various strategies' with the intend to eliminate the troll.
  115. - MIRRORING; Trolling the troll with the same strategy thereby keeping him busy or diverting him off-goal.
  116. - SCARING; Overruling the troll by bluffing (or not) and scaring the troll away.
  117.
  118.
  119. ----------------------------------------------
  120. 2.6 - Anti trolling, weak points
  121. ----------------------------------------------
  122. Weak points in the anti trolling strategy are;
  123. - Reacting
  124. - Showing emotions
  125. - Spending time on the troll
  126. - Forgetting one's goal, getting distracted.
  127. - Staying online when agitated, annoyed, irritated or emotional.
  128. - Getting trolled with threats, personal details, involvement of kids and other dangerous actions (GET HELP OR POLICE).
  129.
  130.
  131.
  132. ----------------------------------------------
  133. 3.0 - Famous trolls
  134. ----------------------------------------------
  135. Pablo Escobar --> He took his son to see the White House while the DEA and Interpol were looking for him.
  136. (we needed a funny part in this how-to)
