  54. [2016-03-30 13:57:18] * Golden_Dream looks for tracks. "Then get on it, Mitzi. We're on th' clock." She felt clever. She probably wasn't, but she /felt/ clever.
  55. [2016-03-30 14:04:26] * Golden_Dream huffs at Noble. "If we do fix th' past, then we'll have no choice whether or not we will have, 'cause we'll have already done it by th' time we get back. Time travel's bullshit. Now let's go get our fuckin' zebras already."
  56. [2016-03-30 14:06:34] * Noble_Heart frowns and contemplates that. "That is quite possible, yes." She nods her head. "In any case, We should think it important to keep an open mind about the possibility of helping those we find here."
  57. [2016-03-30 14:07:57] * CopyCat switches the fancy new alicorn power armour to tracking mode and spins in a circle, trying to spot any Tags popping up on her EFS display. To any onlookers of course she was just spinning in a circle.
  58. [2016-03-30 14:12:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mitzi definitely has found a trail. It is harder to tell which is the way the zebras were going from the way they arrived. But she is certain she will have no trouble following either path.

  60. [2016-03-30 14:15:16] * Mitzi sticks her nose to the ground and then points a claw in the direction she thought the smell strongest. "Dat way."
  61. [2016-03-30 14:23:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3CopyCat's efforts do not find a signal, so it is up to Mitzi to lead them. And she does, the hellhound tracking the scent into the cold, dead forest.
  62. [2016-03-30 14:24:17] * CopyCat nods. But she was actually facing the wrong way so it was a futile gesture. CopyCat turns around and actually nods to Mitzi this time. "I can't see any Tags yet, but I trust your nose, Mitzi. Please, lead on."
  63. [2016-03-30 14:26:03] * Bookwright tries to lighten the mood. "Do you trust the other parts of Mitzi too? Or just her nose?"
  64. [2016-03-30 14:27:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The trail leads to another patch of glowing mushrooms, similar to the first. And here there are signs of an encampment. No tools or tents, but several stone-circled piles of ash and charred wood that suggest cookfires. Small holes in the ground where spikes would have been driven to anchor tents or tarps. And here too is a vent, shedding waning heat.
  65. [2016-03-30 14:28:25] * Shatara blinks a little. "Is this their camp? Has it been that long for them...?"
  66. [2016-03-30 14:28:28] * Mitzi smiles at the result. "Dat eez sumteen uh tin. ".

  68. [2016-03-30 14:29:30] * Golden_Dream goes ahead and starts logging these into her pipbuck. "... Lemme play detective. They prolly got picked up by a group a' zebras and brought along a safe path, which if these vent holes are anythin', is underground, 'cause it's th' only safe place."
  69. [2016-03-30 14:31:20] * Bookwright "I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that a gate to the past doesn't always deliver to exactly the same, er, time, all the... uh... time. Um. I think we're going to need more words to describe this. Uh. We just traveled faster than light and didn't become a singularity, so we should expect some weirdness."
  70. [2016-03-30 14:33:38] * Golden_Dream investigates how long ago the cookfire has been around.
  71. [2016-03-30 14:45:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3After investigation, Golden_Dream comes to the conclusion that this is not the camp of Jugeote and Kifaa. They wouldn't have had more than one campfire, and the fires have been dead at least a full day. Rather, she surmises that it is the campsite of the native zebras that the two pirates encountered.
  72. [2016-03-30 14:46:46] * Golden_Dream kneels over it. "Th' runaway zebras we're after ran int' this camp, where they meet th' natives. They talk, then th' natives bring 'em..." She looks for tracks of any sort. "Mitzi, gimme a hoof? Er. Claw?"
  73. [2016-03-30 14:52:09] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream can assess two directions of travel, one the way they came and the other further northeast. But beyond the borders of the camp, the frozen ground makes it impossible to tell which path was coming and which was going.
  74. [2016-03-30 14:52:27] * CopyCat rubs the chin-portion of her helmet. "Ohh, sounds like your first impression was right on the money, Golden_Dream. Great job."
  75. [2016-03-30 14:53:22] * Noble_Heart looks around with a frown. "They likely travel the valley trying to avoid drawing the attention of the monsters. We shall have to be careful as well."
  76. [2016-03-30 14:56:27] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side, curiously looking around the vent area for anything else alive. Plants, fungus, anything. Ponies, and zebras, could not survive without food after all.
  77. [2016-03-30 14:56:57] * Golden_Dream exhales deeply. "If I weren't terrified of y'all bein' sniped by ahools, I'd ask y' t' go get a bird's eye view fer th' next color splash around."
  78. [2016-03-30 14:59:04] * Shatara blinks a little and looks down at his chest as something occurs to him. "Er...how far back are we? Do they even have guns here?"
  79. [2016-03-30 15:03:55] * Mare-Do-Well 3draws on her extensive knowledge of all things Daring Do. "Well, according to /Daring Do and the Razor of Dreams/, the Quetzalcóatl Empress ruled the Basin in the Era of Dragons. That would have been at least a century before Nightmare Moon..." She frowns. "I was never that good at history."
  80. [2016-03-30 15:04:48] * Bookwright nods. "So, more than thirteen hundred years ago."
  81. [2016-03-30 15:05:17] * Noble_Heart taps her chin and frowns. "Probably not. We are fairly certain guns were a recent invention."
  82. [2016-03-30 15:07:15] * Bookwright shrugs. "Pony guns are a recent invention. Zebra guns...? Who knows? Zebras have always been more alchemically advanced than ponies. It's very possible they have some kind of functional equivalent. Even if it's just paper rockets."
  83. [2016-03-30 15:10:11] * Shatara hmms. "So maybe something that goes 'bang'. But nothing like brass cartridges..."
  84. [2016-03-30 15:10:12] * Bookwright "The history that survives from that time period is pretty scant."
  85. [2016-03-30 15:10:52] * Golden_Dream starts heading off in the northeast direction. "Noble, how good can you see at a distance?"
  86. [2016-03-30 15:11:16] * Bookwright "And that's just the pony history. The zebra history might not be there at all. Literal darkness and literate darkness aren't ontologically that far apart as far as history is concerned."
  87. [2016-03-30 15:12:34] * Noble_Heart blinks. "We are not great? We can see alright." She follows along close to Golden_Dream.
  88. [2016-03-30 15:22:23] * Bookwright "Discord reigns in Equestria. The Basin is controlled by the Empress. And the Dragons rule over the rest of the zebra lands. This time period has more darkness, cruelty, random chaotic nonsense, and hideous evil power than you can shake a stick at. We remember these times as times that we don't want to repeat, and little else."
  89. [2016-03-30 15:24:12] * Mare-Do-Well 3squeaks. "Discord?" Then she frowns. "Okay, so changing history isn't a worry as far as Equestria is concerned because right now Equestria doesn't have a history. Cause and effect are kinda not a thing for ponies over there."
  90. [2016-03-30 15:25:26] * Mare-Do-Well 3thinks. "And you really don't have to worry about the Crystal Empire either. They're gonna pack up and vanish for a thousand years, and almost everything that has happened during this time will be forgotten."
  91. [2016-03-30 15:25:33] * Golden_Dream immediately starts to look off in the north east direction. "Oh, yeah. Well. Alright, can y' teleport up and off a bit to see if y' can't see any color bits? That'd help-" Wait, did Noble just say she couldn't do something well? Goldy stares at Noble for a moment. ".. Are you a changerlin'?"
  92. [2016-03-30 15:26:23] * Mare-Do-Well 3frowns. "If you had to choose a point in history we could come back to and have difficulty messing things up, this would be it." Her eyes narrow. "Which makes me think this was on purpose."
  93. [2016-03-30 15:28:38] * CopyCat continues scanning around for any signs of the missing zebra's PipBuck tags.
  94. [2016-03-30 15:29:53] * Noble_Heart looks towards Mare-Do-Well. "Well, We do know that there was a chaos spirit involved in getting Us here. So who can say?" She shakes her head briefly, then looks back in the direction of the tracks. "We could, perhaps. Though finding Our way back may be hard. This place also seems to consume light, so it is doubtful We could see anything in the distance. The Quetzlcoatl
  95. [2016-03-30 15:29:53] * Noble_Heart Empress does not seem to approve of light."
  96. [2016-03-30 15:32:47] * CopyCat nods her head towards Noble_Heart. "Pan did know where this portal led to. It wouldn't surprise me if he had something, at some point, to do with it."
  97. [2016-03-30 15:33:52] * Noble_Heart frowns at that prospect. "Which is worrying in itself." She flattens her ears as a thought occurs to her. "Other spirits -also- do not like the Quetzlcoatl Empress..."
  98. [2016-03-30 15:37:21] * Bookwright "Pretty much nobody likes the Quetzlcoatl Empress. Not even coatls." He pats the shivering lump that is Scales. "She was feared, not respected."
  99. [2016-03-30 15:38:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The group reaches a clearing. Within it there appears to be nothing but the same darkness that has enveloped everything else. No mushrooms or other fauna this time. The trail ends here, like a rope that has been cut.
  100. [2016-03-30 15:38:13] * Bookwright "I mean, aside from the cultists. These feather cloaks and clasps will come in useful if we encounter any cultists though. Should smooth relationships over."
  101. [2016-03-30 15:38:21] * Noble_Heart rubs her face with a forehoof. "We really hope We are wrong about this. Let Us continue." She heads off following the tracks, searching for any sign of living foliage along the way.
  102. [2016-03-30 15:40:56] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Gundi trots forward, looking over the clearing. Turning to Shatara, he asks, "Why have we come here?"
  103. [2016-03-30 15:42:56] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One of the other zebras nickers in frustration and trots past into the clearing. Chombo makes an attempt to stop him, but he brushes her off with a statement of clear exasperation.
  104. [2016-03-30 15:43:22] * Golden_Dream has... A theory. She goes prone and crawls on the ground a bit, ear to the ground. "... Mitzi, I got ten caps sayin' that it's under this here clearin'."
  105. [2016-03-30 15:43:48] * Mitzi looks to Golden_Dream, "Wut eez?"
  106. [2016-03-30 15:44:02] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirate zebra vanishes, as if suddenly wrapped in a zebra cloak.
  107. [2016-03-30 15:44:32] <Golden_Dream> "Where we need t' be. So, Mitzi?" She blinks. "... Nevermind." She then proceeds to hoof over ten caps to the Hellhound. Fair's fair.

  109. [2016-03-30 15:45:07] * Noble_Heart frowns, heading forward into the clearing. "We have seen this before. It is like the shield around the Crystal Empire."
  110. [2016-03-30 15:45:49] * Golden_Dream steps up a bit. "Yup. Hopefully this time, we won't have t' work out someone's marital issues."
  111. [2016-03-30 15:46:18] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "We suspect this shall be bigger issues."
  112. [2016-03-30 15:46:44] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Noble_Heart vanishes.
  113. [2016-03-30 15:46:58] * CopyCat chuckles at Golden_Dream. "Aww, I quite enjoyed doing that! It had a nice ending, at least."

  115. [2016-03-30 15:49:24] * Bookwright "Maybe we should wait a bit and see if they come back out?"

  117. [2016-03-30 15:49:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Gundi looks to the other zebras. Cordus Vespertilio takes the lead, vanishing into the darkness.

  121. [2016-03-30 15:50:29] * CopyCat eeps! It was one thing to see a zebra vanish into the darkness, it was quite another to to see a dear friend disappear. "Ah, um. Yes. Onwards!"
  122. [2016-03-30 15:51:46] * Golden_Dream steps on through to the other side. Break on through, break on through.
  123. [2016-03-30 15:52:07] * Bookwright reluctantly follows Golden_Dream through the looking glass.
  124. [2016-03-30 15:52:11] * Mitzi looks completely confused, but follows Golden_Dream hurriedly
  125. [2016-03-30 15:54:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One by one, the group enter the darkened clearing. The darkness peels back, the clearing illuminated by blazing basins. There are cut stones and ancient building tools scattered about, as well as a few triangular tents. In the center of the clearing rises a massive stone obelisk, carved with runes. Paths of runic designs spread out from it like circuitry.

  127. [2016-03-30 15:59:06] * Golden_Dream slowly dawns with recognition. "... Ooooooh. So this is how we got it t' work." It remembered us. "... Well, this is fancy. We got to see it wrecked, now we get t' see it built."
  128. [2016-03-30 15:59:40] * Bookwright "I think I recognize this. We saw one. We saw a lot of them. This is part of the Radiant Shield of Rasdon. It's one of the nodes that comprised it."
  129. [2016-03-30 16:00:39] * Bookwright "We could very well meet Rasdon, in the flesh."

  131. [2016-03-30 16:02:58] * Noble_Heart looks up at the not-a-ruin and nods her head. "It would seem so. The zebras have doubtless labored for a great time to build these in hopes of driving off their oppressor."
  132. [2016-03-30 16:06:58] * Noble_Heart waves a hoof at the others. "It would be best if you remove your cloaks. We would not want to be mistaken for her worshippers."
  133. [2016-03-30 16:07:20] * Shatara oooohs for a moment...then squaks looks around for any nearby threats as he realizes that secret camps for building superweapons generally aren't fond of strangers wandering in.
  134. [2016-03-30 16:07:57] * Bookwright unclasps his and re-packs it, swapping it for one made of an armored mesh.

  143. [2016-03-30 16:15:09] * Mare-Do-Well 3nods to Shatara. "Maybe the spirits know they are the good guys," she suggests, pointing at Gundi and Chombo (but meaning the zebras as a whole).
  144. [2016-03-30 16:16:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mwana blushes. Then puffs up. "Yes, I am." He grins, enjoying the compliment.

Maybe these zebras saved them, and took them someplace safe." He looks to Noble_Heart and CopyCat. "Would explain why we haven't found them or their tag yet."
  148. [2016-03-30 16:25:36] * Bookwright "That's probably stretching the definition a bit. The Shield is a terrifyingly powerful weapon built to thwart a terrifyingly powerful spirit. It is weapon born of extremis. It and its creators should be treated with caution."
  149. [2016-03-30 16:25:47] * Get_Lost goes tourist on the obelisk and carves some silly stuff on the base of the stone
  150. [2016-03-30 16:27:02] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "That seems likely." She frowns at the prospect. "If the Spirit of Secrets is hiding them, then doubtless the tag would be hidden as well." She checked her PipBuck for any signs of it now that they were inside the Sphere of Secrecy.
  151. [2016-03-30 16:27:03] * Mare-Do-Well 3pauses. "Oooor, less good scenerio, the Shield-maker zebras think they're spies for the Empress. And have them captured in a pit somewhere."
  152. [2016-03-30 16:33:25] * Golden_Dream starts to step forward. "No point in delaying meetin' 'em, then."
  153. [2016-03-30 16:33:54] * Bookwright "At least hide the Empress cloaks and clasps before we do it."

  155. [2016-03-30 16:36:41] * Get_Lost nodnods, has no cloak or clasp. has instead interesting cybernetics. will probably tell to zebras that they are magical and she won't explain shit about it. usually it works
