  2. Right update time for anime and manga. We've all had a couple of days off now so it's time to think about the next term. First off we have received our room bookings for the 2nd term, everything looks good aside from 9/02 where we do not have a room at all for the anime showing so thats a good time for a social I suppose.
  3. Then we have the Teleford expo coming up. I've emailed about group bookings but we still have to look into travel there, timing/meeting up and making sure the society gets engaged with the event. Potentially we may inquire if anyone from sci-fi or cvg wants to tag along as well depending on numbers.
  4. Soicals. Woktastic was closing and moving down from what I remember. Anyone got the times on that? Preferably we will have one social about 2-3 weeks in and one right at the end of the term. Might have to go with Yo-Sushi or somewhere else for at least one of those.
  5. Then the all important question of what we will be showing. We can run with either 3 13 episode series or 2 13 and 1 with 6 like last term. I would suggest the first option lest we run the spotlight thing into the ground. Though it is a good feature so might depend on what we think up to show as well In terms of choosing I'll put up the poll sometime next week so start thinking about what will be fun for the society to watch
  6. I believe that covers everything but the library which I need to inquire with stu dev first anyway. Any thoughts/ suggestions?

  9. think that covers everything for the most part and I remember when I went to Woktastic last weekend they said they were closing early January like around the 3rd I think and that they'll be reoppening somwhere in new street but don't know when yet. There's a couple places we could go to for socials like Yo Sushi or Mt Fuji near the bullring if we wanna stick with japanese, know a few other decent places to eat just as a general social, think ming moon, a chinese buffet, would be a great place to have a possible social Also I'm pretty sure I don't have to say it for Zhuo but yeah...GIANT ROBO

  12. Sounds good on the food front but I can't agree with giant robo I don't think the society wants to watch something like that, I know for a fact that some of them don't want that sort of style of anime on. Not trying to be a dick sorry but are you thinking for the society or yourselves? :S

  15. Yo Sushi and Mt Fuji both seem pretty expensive though, especially for students I don't really think they're the kind of places that would be massively suited to a group as large as ours (particularly Mt Fuji, that place is tiny). Also I don't know about anime, but I think the general consensus from the society is that newer anime is preferred, though I think we should have a look at the combinations of animes we can put on to run alongside each other to make sure there's some variety

  21. also Lily what do people consider "newer" because i know some people might think anything after the 90's is "new" and some might think stuff after 2010 is "new"?
  22.
  23. Lily
  24. I think a lot of people in anime soc like stuff from ~2000 onwards, but I may be wrong. Like I said, we can all suggest stuff and see how well everything goes together

  27. i'll probably just end up copy/ paste my usual suggestions

  31. Food sounds good so a social on the 4th week back?
  32. On the other hand, Tom not to be a dick but your argument would hold more weight if people didn't like Trust and Betrayal and loved Kino's Journey. I know for a fact that some people also loved Trust and Betrayal so I don't agree that you can speak for the entire society in them not liking an older style. There are 100's of OVAs from the 80's and 90's I wouldn't pick a particular series if I didn't feel that the society wouldn't enjoy it. Dunno about Azri, but I find it a bit insulting that you would suggest that we don't have the society's best interest in our minds to be honest.

  35. I can't say that the reception to trust and betrayal was brilliant. Yes people liked it, including me it was good fun , but it wasn't what it was hyped up to be. As for kino's that wasn't a matter of age that was a matter of pacing and taste. I'm just of the mind that giant robo particularly felt dated when I had a look at it, comparatively Trust and betrayal didn't feel that old I'll watch the first two episodes of it tonight fully if I get the time to make sure I'm judging it fairly. I'm not saying don't play older stuff and if it came across as that apologies, but clichéd old style stuff is pushing it I believe.

  38. I think everyone has the best intention at heart for the society, we all just appear to disagree on exactly what to show Personally, like I said already, I think variety is the key, so we could show things that every member of the committee is happy with, and likewise it'll provide a good contrast to the other shows. Maybe one older show like Giant Robo, then one or two newer ones or a really obscure one and a more recent one?

  40. Zhuo
  41. Yeah I agree it's not a matter of age but of pacing and genre. So making wide sweeping statements is just asking to be proven wrong, cliché old style stuff, you saying Evangelion is cliché?
  42. Criticism of an anime looking dated seems a bit shallow to me, shouldn't you be criticising the plot, characters, pacing and music instead ?
  43. Finally, it seems that beyond just an anime looking old, the society enjoys comedy and action more than a stylistic difference.

  46. I understand your points but I still stand by my opinion. Regardless about what anime we will show is there anything else to note? Social on the 4th week back to cover for that missing room bookings sounds good to me. Still need a place though, I haven't eaten out in Birmingham much so I'm not much help there sorry! We still have money to spend on anime/manga and the transport costs for teleford and we will be moving £86 to the gala fund sometime at the start of the year for the Miscellany Gala which we should advertise a little when we get back.
