Krupinski visiting Chris Barkhorn in Hospital

1945・初夏　ブリタニア沿岸、ワイト島保養施設
Early summer 1945. Britannia Shore, White Island Health Recuperation Facility

「ちょっと…困ります。事前の連絡もなしに」
"Wait please.. you can't do that without contacting us beforehand"
「そこをなんとか、ね」
"Can you please do something about that"
「ほんとに…困り…あ…」
"It's really.. troubling..ah.."

自室と廊下を隔てるドア。その向こうでのやり取りを聞いていた少女は、読んでいた絵本から顔を上げると、
小走りに駆け寄ってドアを開く。
On the other side of the door that separate the corridor and her room, one girl is reading a picture book. She raise up her face from the book after hearing the exchange outside of her room.
ドアの向こうには、青い軍服に、ふわっとカールした金髪。すらりとした長身のウィッチが、少女の世話を
している看護師の腰を抱きよせ、二人見つめあっている姿があった。
On the other side of the door, there are two people embracing with gaze fixed on each other. One of them is wearing military uniform with soft curly blonde hair. A witch with a tall figure. And the other one is a nurse that has been taking care of the girl since she arrived in this facility.
軍服には、カールスラント空軍を表す銀糸の鷲章。
On the witch's uniform, the girl spotted an emblem of an eagle stitched with silver thread that represents the Karsland Air Force
少女は、そのウィッチに向かって…
The young girl move toward the witch and...

「こんにちは。ヴァルトルート・クルピンスキーさん」
"Hello there, Waltrud Krupinski-san"

「クリスちゃん！これはね…」
"Chris-chan! This is not..."
腰を抱かれ、うっとりした表情を見せていた看護師は、さすがに気まずく思ったのか、慌ててウィッチから体を離す。
The nurse looks entranced as her body and the witch get even closer, but she hastily separate her body from the witch's after she noticed Chris. As one would expect, she must've felt quite awkward in this situation.

ウィッチは、優しく看護師の髪をなでると、クリスと呼ばれた少女に向き直って挨拶を返す。
After affectionately stroking the nurse's hair, the witch return the greeting from the girl called Chris.
「こんにちは。クリスティアーネ・バルクホルンさん。ところで、初対面だったと思うけど」
"Good day to you Christiane Barkhorn-san. By the way, this is the first time we meet face to face, no?
「お姉ちゃんから聞いてます。えっと…前に同じ部隊の…」
"I've heard plenty of stories about you from my sister. Umm.. She said you were on the same unit, the..."
「JG52？」
"JG52?"
「そう！それ！」
"Yes! That's the one!"

弾む少女とウィッチの会話に、看護師が割ってはいる。
The nurse that has been listening to the conversation between the lively girl and the witch, cut into their conversation.
「クリスちゃん、知り合いの方？」
"Do you know this person, Chris-chan?"
「うん、お姉ちゃんの」
"Yes, she's my sister acquaintance"
「そうですか、言ってくださればよかったのに」
"I see, you should have just said so then"
看護師の少し責めるような口調に、クルピンスキーがウィンク付きで返す
Krupinski reply the nurse criticizing tone with a wink
「ごめんね。サプライズにしたくってさ」
"I'm sorry, I was planning to make this visit a surprise. I hope you forgive me"

クルピンスキーがクリスの知人と分かって、看護師は安堵の息を漏らす。
The nurse let out a relieved breath after she know that Krupinski is an acquaintance of Chris.
なにしろ、自分が世話している少女、クリスの姉はあのゲルトルート・バルクホルン大尉なのだ。
After all, the girl in her care is the sister of the famous Captain Gertrud Barkhorn.
もしものことがあったら、バルクホルン大尉にも、自分にこの職を推薦してくれたビショップ曹長にも顔向けできない。
If anything ever happened to Chris, she wouldn't be able to face Captain Barkhorn or Master Sergeant Bishop that recommended this facility to the Captain.
「じゃあ、お勉強の時間まで…1時間くらいあるから、私は席を外します」
"Well then, there's still... one hour before study time so I will excuse myself for a while"
「ありがとう、気を遣わせちゃったね」
"Thank you, sorry for causing you trouble"

看護師が去ると、クルピンスキーは、いままで器用に背中に隠していた花束をクリスに差し出す。
After the nurse left, Krupinski present the flower bouquet she has been skilfully hiding behind her back to Chris
「改めて。僕はヴァルトルート・クルピンスキー。お姉さんの元同僚…かな」
"Let me introduce myself properly, I'm Waltrud Krupinski, your sister former colleague and... well, that's it I guess"
「わあ。ありがとうございます」
"Waa. Thank you very much."
「僕のこと、知っててくれて光栄だよ」
I'm honored that you've heard about me.
「はい、お姉ちゃん、よくJG52の皆さんのこと教えてくれるから、すぐわかりました」
"Ah yes, my sister likes to talk about everyone in JG52, so I recognized you instantly"
「トゥルーデはなんて？」
"What did Trude said about me?"
「女たらしの遊び人でけしからん！でも腕はいい、って」
"In her words 'She's an outrageous womanizer and playboy! But her skill is first class'."
「はは…まいったね」
"Haa...what a way to be introduced"

あの時代、JG52。強い絆で結ばれた仲間とともに、苦しい戦いを乗り切ってきた。
Back in the day, the members of JG52 overcame difficult battles one after another thanks to their strong bonds with each other.
その戦いのさなかに、バルクホルンは最愛の妹、クリスを失ったのだ。
Among those battles though, Barkhorn lost Chris, her beloved sister.
そのバルクホルンが、あの時代のことを妹に話せるようになっていたんだな。
So now that Barkhorn is able to tell her sister about that time, huh.
楽しそうなクリスの表情を見て、クルピンスキーの顔にも自然に笑みが浮かぶ。
Looking at Chris joyous expression, a smile naturally formed on Krupinski face.

「それにしても…これはすごいね」
"Nevertheless... this is quite amazing isn't it"
「お姉ちゃんのお友達や、同じ部隊の人が時々きてくれるんです」
"My sister's friends and other members of her unit come by from time to time."
部屋の一角は、姉であるバルクホルン、その同僚であったカールスラントのウィッチたちや、501部隊の
面々という、そうそうたるメンバーからのプレゼント、メッセージや写真で埋まっていた。
In the corner of the room, lies present boxes, letters and even photograph from her sister, her sister fellow Karslandian witches and all other 501 members.
それが少女の失った数年間を埋め合わせるものかどうかはわからないが、この年頃の少女にとっては、
宝物、といってもいいだろう。
Whether they were given to compensate the years the young girl have lost is unknown. In any case, to a young girl her age, it's not a stretch to call them a treasure.

「こっちは…501部隊の人だね。おっと…エーリカ・ハルトマン！」
"This one is... the 501 members isn't it. Oh..there's Erika Hartman!"
クリスとバルクホルン、エーリカの3人で写った写真を見てクルピンスキーが声を上げる。
Krupinski said excitedly as she look at a picture of Chris, her sister and Erika together.

「それは、私が目が覚めてすぐの時に撮ったんです。ここじゃなくて、ブリタニア本島の病院で。
ハルトマンさんがお姉ちゃんを車で送ってくれたらしくて」
"That picture was taken right after I regain consciousness. It was taken when I'm still at Britannia main island hospital. I heard it was Hartman-san that drove my sister to the hospital"
「ふふ…そうなんだ。元気そうだな、フラウ」
"Hehe...I see. Seems like Frau is doing well"

「この人も…501の？」
"Is... this person also part part of 501?
「これは501のリネットさん。隣はそのお姉さんのウィルマさん。お姉ちゃんに、ここの施設を紹介してくれたんだって」
"That is Lynnette-san from 501. The person beside her is her older sister, Wilma-san. I heard she's the one introduced this facility to my sister.
「なるほど～姉妹そろってこれは…なかなか」
"I see~ They make.. quite a picture together"

そんな中、唯一、サインもメッセージもなくウィッチ一人で写っている写真にクルピンスキーの目が留まる。
Among them, a photograph of a witch without anything written on it captures Krupinski's eyes.
「えっと、その人は」
"Err, that person is..."
「ハンナ・ユスティーナ・マルセイユ。通称アフリカの星」
"Hanna Justina Marseille. Also known as the Star of Africa"
「クルピンスキーさん、知ってるんですか！」
"Do you know her, Krupinski-san ?!"
クリスは目を輝かせ、クルピンスキーに詰め寄る。
Ask Chris as she draw closer to Krupinski with gleaming eyes.

なるほど、この子の本命はマルセイユね。苦笑いを隠してクリスに向き直ると、
I see, guess Marseille is this girl favorite's. Then as she hid her bitter smile she turn to face Chris.
「うん、何しろ短い時間だったけど同じJG5…」
"Yeah, though it is only for short time, we were in the JG5..."
と答えかけてクルピンスキーは気づく。
Krupinski hit a realization as she answered Chris.

バルクホルンがJG52の話をクリスにしているのであれば、当然マルセイユと自分が同じ部隊にいたことも
知っているはず。それをクリスが知らないとすれば…
If Barkhorn really told Chris her stories when she was still on JG52, then naturally she should have known about Marseille. The fact that Chris don't know that can only mean one thing...
（やれやれ、トゥルーデのやつ、マルセイユが一時JG52にいたこと、話してないんだな）
(oh boy, that Trude. She didn't tell Chris that Marseille was part of JG52 for a short time.)

「クルピンスキーさん？」
"Chris-chan?"
続きが待ちきれない、といった様子のクリスを見て、クルピンスキーの頭に悪だくみが浮かぶ。
A sinister plan starts to form inside Krupinski's head as she watch Chris that look at her impatiently, waiting for her to continue talking.

「お姉さんに頼んだら、マルセイユのサイン、貰えるかも」
"Why don't you ask your sister for Marseille's autograph? She might get it for you.
「ほんとに！」
"Really?!"
「うん、僕はあまり交流ないけど、トゥルーデだったらマルセイユにお願いできると思うよ」
"Yep, I didn't get to know her well, but I think Trude could ask her for one"
「もう！お姉ちゃん！教えてくれればいいのに！」
"Ah jeez, She should have told me about it then!

喜びいっぱいのクリスと、事の顛末を知ったバルクホルンからの猛抗議を予想して、クルピンスキーは
笑みが抑えきれない。そして、こう思うのだ。
With how happy Chris looks like, Krupinski can't hold back her smile as she pictured Barkhorn tried greatly object to the request. And then a thought appear in her head.
（君のお姉さんも、マルセイユに負けない、すごいウィッチなんだよ）
(Chris, Your sister is also a great witch that won't lose to Marseille you know)
