  197.
  198.
  199. 3. Troubleshooting
  200.
  201. 3.1 Detection Issues with USB Mice
  202.
  203. Please note that USB mice are only supported under Windows 98,
  204. Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
  205.
  206. If your USB mouse is not detected properly or does not
  207. function, please use the following steps to troubleshoot the
  208. problem.
  209. Note: if you have a PS/2 mouse, you can install and use it to
  210. follow the procedure. Otherwise, use the keyboard to navigate.
  211.
  212. 1) Click the Start button or press Ctrl-Esc to bring up the
  213. Start menu, select "Settings", then "Control Panel".
  214. 2) Select the System icon and press Enter to open the System
  215. Properties.
  216. 3) From the System Properties, select the Device Manager tab.
  217. On Windows 2000 and Windows XP, select the Hardware tab, then
  218. press the Device Manager button.
  219. 4) Under the Mouse section, there should be a mouse icon that
  220. states: "HID-compliant mouse". On Windows 98 or ME, you should
  221. also see another entry that states the name of your USB device.
  222. If there is a yellow exclamation or red X mark on either of
  223. these entries, highlight it and press the Delete key to remove
  224. it.
  225. 5) Once the problem entries have been removed, press the
  226. "Refresh" button and allow Windows to re-detect the mouse. On
  227. Windows 2000 and Windows XP, select "Scan for Hardware Changes"
  228. from the Action menu.
  229. 6) Look at the entries under the Mouse section again, verify
  230. that there are no errors reported.
  231. 7) Power down the computer and restart Windows. Test the USB
  232. device to see if it is now functional.
  233.
  234. Other USB troubleshooting tips:
  235. - If you have problem getting the mouse to work on a hub, try
  236. connecting the mouse directly to the USB port on the system.
  237. - Try a second USB mouse in the same port or try the USB mouse
  238. on a second system to verify it is working correctly. If
  239. needed contact the vendor of your system to verify the USB
  240. ports are correctly enabled, or if updated drivers are
  241. available.
  242. - Uninstall MouseWare and see if the USB mouse works with the
  243. native Microsoft drivers provided on your Windows CD-ROM.
  244. - If your USB mouse functions but does not appear in the
  245. Logitech Mouse Control Center, reinstall MouseWare again
  246. while the Logitech USB mouse is attached.
  247. - You may also want to contact the vendor of your USB chipset
  248. for updated USB drivers.
  249.
  250. 3.2 Detection Problems with PS/2 Pointing Devices
  251.
  252. If your mouse is connected to the mouse port and is not
  253. detected by the system, attempt the following step(s):
  254.
  255. 1) Your mouse port might need to be enabled through the SETUP
  256. menu of your computer. You may also need to set the
  257. configuration for the internal pointing device to
  258. "Auto-Disable" or "Auto-Select" setting. Please check your
  259. computer documentation regarding the SETUP menu.
  260.
  261. 2) If you have a mouse with both serial and mouse port
  262. adapters, connect the mouse to the computer through the
  263. serial port. Reboot and check if the mouse is detected
  264. properly.
  265.
  266. 3) If adapter(s) were not included in your package, your mouse
  267. was designed to work on only one type of port (Serial OR
  268. PS/2). Refer to your package for the type of port your
  269. mouse supports.
  270.
  271. 4) If the system also has a USB mouse attached and the PS/2
  272. mouse is not correctly detected by MouseWare, either try
  273. unplugging the USB mouse or try turning off USB legacy
  274. support in the BIOS to see if that resolves the issue.
  275. Please consult the documentation provided with your
  276. computer on how to change BIOS settings.
  277.
  278. If the problem persists, please check for a possible computer
  279. BIOS ROM upgrade from your computer manufacturer.
  280.
  281. Some notebook systems have both an external Mouse Port and an
  282. integrated Pointing Stick, which is connected to the Mouse
  283. Port. If your mouse is having difficulty running on the Mouse
  284. Port of this type of system, try using the USB port instead.
  285.
  286. 3.3 Detection of C-Series Pointing devices under Windows 98
  287.
  288. If you are using a C-Series device on a serial port and it is
  289. not detected by Windows 98, you may need to change an entry
  290. in the Windows Registry.
  291.
  292. NOTE: C-Series devices connected to the serial port are not
  293. supported under Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
  294.
  295. C-Series devices can be identified by the following model
  296. numbers (M/N:), located on the bottom of the device: T-CA1,
  297. C7, CA, CC, and CE.
  298.
  299. 1) Click on the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop and
  300. select "Run".
  301. 2) On the "Open" line, type "regedit" and click on the "OK"
  302. button.
  303. 3) From the Registry Editor screen, double click on:
  304. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  305. 4) Double click on SOFTWARE.
  306. 5) Double click on Logitech.
  307. 6) Double click on MouseWare.
  308. 7) Double click on CurrentVersion.
  309. 8) Single click on Technical and information should be
  310. displayed on the right side of the Registry Editor screen.
  311. 9) Under the Name column, double click on the "SearchCSeries"
  312. entry and the Edit String Dialogue box should appear.
  313. 10) Modify the Value Data line to read "On", and click the "OK"
  314. button
  315.
  316. Exit the Registry editor and restart Windows. The C-Series
  317. device should now be detected.
  318.
  319. 3.4 Detection of Serial Mice under Windows 2000 and XP
  320.
  321. MouseWare under Windows 2000 and XP does not support pointing
  322. devices connected to the serial port. This means that your serial
  323. pointing device will only be supported by the native OS driver.
  324. Serial devices will not show up in the MouseWare enhanced Mouse
  325. Properties and you will not be able to program the buttons or
  326. use any of the other features. If your pointing device
  327. supports PS/2 mode, use the adapter provided and connect it to
  328. the system's PS/2 mouse port if it has one.
  329.
  330. 3.5 Power Management Problems Under Windows 98 or Windows Me
  331.
  332. If your mouse freezes when waking your PC up from suspend, in
  333. Windows 98 or Windows Me, run "Regedit.exe", then open the
  334. registry key:
  335. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion
  336. \Technical\APMMode
  337. and set APMMode="Off"
  338.
  339. 3.6 Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Panel is not Updated Under
  340. Windows 98 or Windows Me
  341.
  342. Under Windows 98 or Windows Me, if the Mouse Properties have
  343. not been updated to Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Center,
  344. verify you have installed MouseWare. If this does not resolve
  345. this issue, it may be necessary to do a registry clean-up.
  346. Remove the following folders in the Windows Registry.
  347.
  348. Select the "Start" button, then "Run". In the "Open" line type
  349. "regedit", and click on the OK button.
  350.
  351. Open the following Registry folders:
  352.
  353. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class
  354. \Mouse\xxxx
  355.
  356. Remove all of the 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. under the Mouse folder
  357. until there are no folders remaining under the Mouse folder.
  358. Now shutdown your system and restart. Open the Mouse
  359. Properties and check to see if you now have the Enhanced
  360. Logitech Mouse Control Center.
  361.
  362. If the mouse is still not detected properly after completing
  363. the steps above, please refer to the section "Drivers-Only
  364. Installation for Windows 98 and Me" above.
  365.
  366. 3.7 Scrolling/wheel related issues
  367.
  368. If your mouse is equipped with a wheel and the wheel does not
  369. scroll, verify that the Logitech control panel is installed
  370. properly. If you click the Start button and select Settings,
  371. Control Panel, the mouse icon should bring up a Logitech control
  372. panel. Otherwise reinstall MouseWare.
  373.
  374. 3.8 Connection Issues for Cordless Pointing Devices
  375.
  376. If your cordless device does not seem to respond, or exhibits
  377. erratic behavior, please try the following to resolve the issue:
  378.
  379. 1) Check the batteries of your device.
  380.
  381. If your cordless device uses Alkaline batteries, try replacing
  382. them with new batteries.
  383.
  384. If you're using a Logitech rechargeable cordless mouse, confirm
  385. the batteries have a full charge.
  386.
  387. This will verify the issue is not occurring because of low /
  388. dead batteries.
  389.
  390. 2) Check the receiver's connection to the system. Check that the
  391. connector is clean, and that it's connected securely to the
  392. correct port. If connected to switch-boxes, or hubs, try
  393. connecting the receiver directly to the system, to verify there's
  394. no interference from those devices
  395.
  396. 3) Try changing the location of the receiver. Move it away from
  397. electrical devices that could cause interference with the radio
  398. signals, such as monitors, speakers, zip drives, etc. Also avoid
  399. placing the receiver on metal surfaces that could interfere with
  400. the signal.
  401.
  402. 4) Press the "connect" button on the receiver, then press the
  403. "connect" button on the device (normally located on the bottom).
  404.
  405. 5) If these steps do not help resolve the issue, please refer to the
  406. help installed with your Logitech software. Or
  407. visit the Logitech web site (www.logitech.com) for the latest
  408. troubleshooting information.
  409.
  410. 3.9 Internet Explorer 4.x needed to view Help
  411.
  412. In order to view Help, you need to have Internet Explorer 4.x
  413. or higher installed.
  414.
  415. 3.10 Conflict With Logitech Digital Gameport Devices On WinXP/Win2000
  416.
  417. If you use a Logitech Digital Gameport device with WingMan software
  418. version 4.20 or earlier, you may experience a conflict with
  419. your MouseWare software. This problem happens in the following
  420. scenarios
  421.
  422. Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP
  423. MouseWare Software: version 9.70 or later
  424. WingMan Software: version 4.20 or earlier
  425. Gameport Products: WingMan Gamepad (blue version)
  426. WingMan Formula (black wheel version)
  427.
  428. After installing MouseWare any attempt to add "WingMan Gamepad"
  429. to game controllers will fail. Instead an "MX300 Optical Mouse"
  430. will appear in the Device Manager with the yellow warning mark.
  431.
  432. After installing MouseWare any attempt to add "WingMan Formula"
  433. to game controllers will fail. Instead an "MX500 Optical Mouse"
  434. will appear in the Device Manager with the yellow warning mark.
  435.
  436. Solution:
  437.
  438. Go to the Logitech website and get a version of the WingMan
  439. software later than 4.20. The post 4.20 WingMan digital
  440. gameport drivers are also available on the Logitech site as a
  441. patch.
  442.
  443. 3.11 Error Message when Entering Standby in Windows XP
  444.
  445. The following error message may appear when attempting to enter
  446. standby:
