  3. The Staffordshire Police Air Support Unit (ASU) provides aerial support to units on the ground. The ASU operates a fleet of helicopters, which are stationed at the Stafford Dispatch & Flight Monitoring Center (DFMC).

  5. The unit performs suspect & missing persons searches, vehicle pursuit, firearms incidents response, large public order operations and VIP/Prisoner escorts.

  7. Each helicopter is crewed by a pilot and at least one officer who acts as an observer, maintaining radio communications with ground units.

  9. Dog Section:

  11. The Dog Section, formally known as the Dog Support Unit (DSU), provides police dogs and handler teams to support other ground units, and response to emergencies in which their specialist capabilities are required.

  13. The DSU searches for suspects and missing persons, guards properties and places of interest, chases and detains suspects resisting/fleeing arrest, controls hostile crowds and disarms armed suspects. The DSU also supports the Firearms Unit.

  19. The Road Policing Unit (RPU) is a section with duties dedicated to road policing and traffic enforcement. Officers in the RPU are highly trained in operating high-powered vehicles.

  21. The RPU lead pursuits, attend and investigate collisions (alongside the CID), patrol the roads, enforce traffic laws, remove dangerously/illegally parked cars from the road, seize vehicles, fill out serious collision forms and perform routine traffic stops.

  27. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is the investigative department of Staffordshire Police.

  29. The CID is involved in the detection and investigation of serious crimes and offences, gathering and analysing intelligence, as well as the investigation of road traffic collisions.
  30. CID officers maintain their rank within the regular police force, however they are given the Detective prefix before their rank.

  34. Only those in this group may operate a vehicle at Stafford. To join, you must attend a tryout session in which you will be tested in your abilities to handle a high powered vehicle (HPV).

  40. The Territorial Support Group (TSG) is a department of Staffordshire Police, tasked with

  42. maintaining public order and providing support to regular divisional officers.

  44. The unit carries out large crowd control, taser support, surveillance, community liasing, riot control, officer support and reinforcements and tactical operations.
