Travis Germaine - The Hermit

is a 25 year old student-teacher currently at Konungswiche University making his way through a Psychology master's degree. His plans are to become a professional therapist for wealthy Glassdell clientele and rake in the big bucks. He is vegetarian, libertarian, and enjoys competitive board games, as well as embracing foreign philosophy. He claims he has Chinese ancestry and almost looks like it, but he's actually completely full of shit and wants to make himself look good. His apartment is surprisingly bare bones and lacking luxury items or many personal effects, and despite what he might insist, he does not actually have very many friends. If this sad state of affairs depresses him, he doesn't seem to show it on the outside, instead presenting a confident, if reserved demeanor. His fridge is packed to bursting with kale. He has grown to loathe it, but won't shut up about its health benefits if it ever comes up in conversation.

Carlton Harding - The Emperor - The current president of Konungswiche's most prestigious chess club, which Travis is not a member of. Carlton and Travis often meet to exchange a game of wits, and not always on the chess board. The truth is, they really fucking hate each other and on the personal level there's a lot of hard feelings, but both men channel these feelings into a constructive rivalry, neither determined to let the other get ahead in their games.

A jolly old Chinese man riding an ass while facing the wrong way, wearing ancient clothes. One of the Eight Immortals, was said to possess the power of necromancy, the art of crafting medicinal wine, the ability to turn invisible, and even the ability to cheat death. His successes and popularity are in stark contrast to Travis's own life.
