  34. 7:05:55 AM Permafry_42: OTM_John OTM_Danielle Did you guys see that full indie for july has been opened for registration this morning? http://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Indie-Game-Developers/events/193166312/?comment_table_id=378933852&comment_table_name=event_comment
  35. liorean_ is now known as liorean (7:06:34 AM)
  36. 7:06:51 AM OTM_John: permafry - yeah! we're going
  37. 7:07:14 AM Cheeseness: Alrighty, I'm going to start from the beginning again and zip through to where we got last time pretty quick. Let me know when the stream is live
  38. 7:07:38 AM Permafry_42: Great
  39. 7:08:29 AM OTM_John: cool man! yeah I just put out a patch and it looks like something got a little jangled between last week and this week
  40. 7:08:36 AM Syd: It's live
  41. 7:08:41 AM Cheeseness: Got sound as well this time?
  42. 7:08:45 AM OTM_John: it's my bad really, I should have double checked with Cheese
  43. 7:08:47 AM OTM_John: yeahp!
  44. 7:08:49 AM Permafry_42: best of luck cheese; should be fun to see you do a speed run and sound is good
  45. 7:08:49 AM OTM_John: we've got sound
  46. OTM_Danielle left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (7:08:54 AM)
  47. 7:09:03 AM Cheeseness: Nah, I shouldn't have launched the new version this morning
  48. OTMDanielle [Mibbit@hide-29C27BB5.vc.shawcable.net] entered the room. (7:09:08 AM)
  49. 7:09:22 AM Cheeseness: I wiped my save during the week whilst testing for bugs and played through again last night anyway
  50. Mimness [Mibbit@hide-BDC870AD.lns20.hba1.internode.on.net] entered the room. (7:09:25 AM)
  51. 7:09:34 AM Cheeseness: Hey Mimness
  52. 7:09:40 AM OTM_John: oh hah
  53. 7:09:43 AM Mimness: Hey Cheeseness
  54. 7:09:49 AM Syd: Hey Mimness
  55. 7:09:52 AM OTM_John: sup Mimness
  56. 7:10:09 AM apo: is something supposed to be on https://double-fine-game-club.github.io/? >_>
  57. 7:10:34 AM Syd: Check http://www.twitch.tv/dfgameclub/ if you aren't getting anything here
  58. GameClubFan_353989 [Mibbit@hide-4FB2B066.hsd1.mi.comcast.net] entered the room. (7:10:41 AM)
  59. 7:10:42 AM apo: much better!
  60. 7:10:44 AM apo: Thanks
  61. GameClubFan_353989 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (7:10:46 AM)
  62. 7:10:48 AM Mimness: Hi OTM_John ^_^
  63. 7:10:55 AM OTM_John: yeah Danielle just reported the same issue
  64. 7:11:00 AM Mimness: Thanks for joining us again
  65. 7:11:06 AM Cheeseness: Sometimes pausing and playing on the Game Club page sorts it out
  66. 7:11:11 AM OTM_John: oh, it's my pleasure. an honour in fact
  67. 7:11:12 AM Cheeseness: But the Twitch page is fine as well ^_^
  68. 7:11:18 AM apo: Cheeseness: I don't even see a player
  69. 7:11:19 AM wry: Thanks. I wasn't getting a stream there either.
  70. 7:11:49 AM Cheeseness: So I'm going to skip dialogue and stuff until we get up to where we need to be
  71. 7:11:53 AM medacris: Starting over?
  72. 7:11:54 AM OTM_John: absolutely
  73. 7:11:57 AM OTM_John: hammer through it
  74. 7:12:07 AM Syd: Yeah, Cheeseness lost his save so he's gonna speedrun up to where he was when the last session ended.
  75. wry left the room. (7:12:21 AM)
  76. 7:12:22 AM Mimness: Half a speed run.
  77. 7:12:52 AM OTM_John: it's actually about 1 second faster to try to network with the guy and then run to the motion sensor
  78. 7:12:57 AM OTM_John: so the startle animation doesn't play..
  79. 7:12:58 AM OTM_John: hehehe
  80. 7:13:05 AM Cheeseness: Oh, it doesn't?
  81. 7:13:23 AM Mimness: Woah. It's like you have inside information or something, OTM_John
  82. 7:13:24 AM Cheeseness: I thought it did so I was going to skip talking to the other suit altogether
  83. 7:13:29 AM OTM_John: yeah, if you've done the OS screen tutorial already, arid won't get startled by the motion sensor
  84. 7:13:39 AM OTM_John: oh hah right
  85. 7:14:02 AM OTM_John: Mimness yeah, I know the dev.
  86. 7:14:14 AM OTM_John: heeeeeeeeeeeeee's......... I don't like him tbh
  87. 7:14:32 AM Cheeseness: Bwarm
  88. 7:14:48 AM OTMDanielle: He's okay.
  89. 7:14:56 AM Cheeseness:
  90. 7:15:03 AM OTM_John: you're making good time
  91. OTMDanielle left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (7:15:07 AM)
  92. 7:15:13 AM Cheeseness: I've had a little practice
  93. 7:15:17 AM Cheeseness: My favourite part is forgetting the blood
  94. 7:15:35 AM OTM_John: oh yeah, that's a pain
  95. 7:15:40 AM Mimness: So, can I ask what sort of stuff was included in the recent update?
  96. 7:16:07 AM OTM_John: yeah! so aside from an update to Unity 4.5 which should fix a lot of random little issues
  97. 7:16:25 AM Cheeseness: Whoops, something weird happened there. Did the stream cut out?
  98. 7:16:30 AM OTM_John: we integrated inControl, so lots of gamepad should work
  99. 7:16:34 AM apo: OTM_John: is he one of those weird people who talk about themselves in the third person?
  100. OTMDanielle [Mibbit@hide-29C27BB5.vc.shawcable.net] entered the room. (7:16:46 AM)
  101. OTMDanielle left the room (quit: Quit: OTMDanielle). (7:16:48 AM)
  102. 7:16:49 AM OTM_John: Cheeseness - it buffered for me for a sec but it's okay
  103. 7:16:56 AM OTM_John: haha yes apo he is.
  104. OTMDanielle [Mibbit@hide-29C27BB5.vc.shawcable.net] entered the room. (7:17:01 AM)
  105. 7:17:02 AM apo: God, I hate those
  106. 7:17:06 AM OTM_John: worst kind
  107. 7:17:14 AM OTM_John: He plays professional football
  108. 7:17:38 AM OTM_John: (they do that a lot right? american football? nevermind)
  109. 7:18:00 AM Mimness: Hahahaha!
  110. 7:18:26 AM Cheeseness: This part is a bit harder with the keyboard since you can't walk
  111. 7:18:36 AM OTM_John: hehe yeah it is
  112. 7:18:42 AM OTM_John: i draw my weapon to get through it
  113. 7:18:46 AM Cheeseness: Ah, good move
  114. 7:19:10 AM OTM_John: you're blazing through this thing. well done
  115. 7:19:36 AM Cheeseness:
  116. 7:19:40 AM Mimness: I think Cheeseness may have played this a few times before...
  117. 7:20:04 AM Syd: Just a few
  118. 7:20:06 AM OTM_John: clearly
  119. 7:20:08 AM OTM_John: haha
  120. 7:20:28 AM OTM_John: I should probably add a few achievements for speed running really
  121. 7:20:51 AM Permafry_42: there's something nice about the random collection of sounds when ever you skip a bunch of f
  122. 7:20:51 AM medacris: Add ALL the achievements!
  123. 7:20:54 AM Cheeseness: Oh ha ha, forgot to talk a second time
  124. 7:20:57 AM Permafry_42: *dialogue at once
  125. 7:21:31 AM OTM_John: ssoooooo what are ya'll playing
  126. 7:21:37 AM OTM_John: (as we wait to catch up with ourselves here)
  127. 7:21:45 AM Cheeseness: I'm playing The Fall
  128. 7:21:46 AM Cheeseness:
  129. 7:21:53 AM Syd: I've been playing Crypt of the Necrodancer, trying to not be bad at it.
  130. 7:21:56 AM OTM_John: hah it's true
  131. 7:21:58 AM Cheeseness: I love that game so hard
  132. 7:22:12 AM OTM_John: yeah it looks awesome actually
  133. 7:22:37 AM Sven_Q45: I´m still on Tex Murphy Overseer. And this weekend I will start with the final release version of Quest for Infamy.
  134. 7:23:18 AM Syd: I've also been playing Fallout 1, I'm about halfway through that game.
  135. 7:23:32 AM Cheeseness: I'm a bad aim today
  136. 7:23:36 AM OTM_John: Never played the orignal fallouts.
  137. 7:23:36 AM Cheeseness: I got all those in one hit last night
  138. 7:23:44 AM OTM_John: you're doin' fine. where did we leave off??
  139. 7:23:53 AM medacris: I've not been playing anything, my computer is getting old and I've not yet switched to the new one.
  140. 7:23:55 AM Cheeseness: After the first 4 tests are done
  141. 7:24:07 AM Mimness: I'm thinking about playing some Don't Starve today, but I'm afraid it'll suck my whole day away.
  142. 7:24:16 AM apo: I would like to think that humans would be a bit nicer to other intelligent beings than that by now. We've certainly had enough fence posts
  143. 7:24:20 AM OTM_John: it has a tendancy to do that Mimness
  144. 7:24:22 AM Syd: The original Fallouts are good, but isometric turn-based RPGs instead of the hybrid Elder Scrolls-ish gameplay the new ones have, so they may not appeal to everyone.
  145. 7:24:40 AM Cheeseness: I think we chose different dialogue options, so I'll linger on this bit
  146. 7:24:44 AM Permafry_42: I was just playing watch dogs and before that the steam version of age of mythology
  147. 7:25:08 AM medacris: I've been thinking of doing commissions, draw something small for whoever buys me Wrath of The Giants.
  148. 7:25:18 AM Mimness: Not that there was a lot that was different
  149. 7:25:26 AM Cheeseness:
  150. 7:25:39 AM OTM_John: yeah, some of the options are for folks who just don't want to hear the dialogue
  151. 7:26:08 AM Cheeseness: I thought he said a tiny bit more, but I was remembering wrong
  152. 7:26:09 AM Cheeseness: ^_^
  153. 7:26:13 AM OTM_John: I think in the next one we'll try to implement some KTZ style choices...
  154. 7:26:21 AM Cheeseness: KZ0?
  155. 7:26:32 AM Cheeseness: KR0
  156. 7:26:41 AM Syd: Or KRZ.
  157. 7:26:42 AM OTM_John: OH! yeah sorry
  158. 7:26:50 AM Permafry_42: there are some days when i love story and dialogue in games, and others when i feel like they get in the way of the gameplay's internal flow
  159. 7:27:00 AM Sven_Q45: KZO would be Kentucky Route Zero Zero.
  160. 7:27:04 AM OTM_John: permafry - how so?
  161. 7:27:23 AM Sven_Q45: KZ0 I mean. Duh.
  162. 7:27:33 AM Cheeseness: I'm running with my gun out
  163. 7:27:46 AM OTM_John: you're like a military machine
  164. 7:27:48 AM OTM_John: did you ever get that one?
  165. 7:27:56 AM Cheeseness: Nah, not yet. Did you end up nerfing it?
  166. 7:28:08 AM Permafry_42: it mostly depends on the game, but there are some times when i'll be playing a game like watch dogs where i'll just want to get on with playing the game and instead have to wait through a cutscene
  167. 7:28:14 AM Mimness: Cheeseness always has his gun out
  168. 7:28:15 AM Cheeseness: Ha ha
  169. 7:28:30 AM apo: unskippable cutscenes are literally Satan
  170. 7:28:33 AM Permafry_42: then there are games like the fall where i get through the gameplay mostly to hear more narrative
  171. 7:28:52 AM OTM_John: is the story in Watch Dogs any goodÉÉ
  172. 7:28:55 AM Mimness: Hell is unskippable cut scenes.
  173. 7:28:59 AM Syd: Permafry_42: I think the quality of the writing might be part of that. I usually find that if the writing is good enough and I like the characters, I'll want to hear it.
  174. 7:29:00 AM apo: (Unpausable cutscenes too)
  175. 7:29:01 AM Cheeseness: Ah, I didn't do the mushrooms whilst I was upstairs. Whoops
  176. 7:29:20 AM Syd: (or read it, if there's no voice over)
  177. 7:29:35 AM Cheeseness: I love that KR0 makes you read. I really love that
  178. 7:29:55 AM Cheeseness: Things work through your brain differently when you read
  179. 7:30:00 AM Permafry_42: otm_john not really imo. too many cliches. i like the enviroment's story and general realism of the setting though
  180. 7:30:12 AM Syd: Oh yeah, if we're still on the topic of games we've recently played, I finished Jazzpunk last night. That's a bizarre game, but I enjoyed it.
  181. 7:30:12 AM OTM_John: ah
  182. 7:30:29 AM apo: I've been playing the Wasteland 2 beta a bit
  183. 7:30:31 AM OTM_John: cliches in a game story...
  184. 7:30:46 AM OTM_John: syd let me google that sucker
  185. 7:31:04 AM Cheeseness: Jazzpunk looks mad
  186. 7:31:27 AM Permafry_42: syd the weird thing is that sometimes the gameplay is so good that even though i love the narrative i want to get back to the gameplay. Kingdom hearts has a lot of those moments for example
  187. 7:31:39 AM apo: .oO( I wonder if Craft The World has fixed elevators yet )
  188. 7:31:46 AM Mimness: Oh! Oh yay! I just realised we get to see the baby go again!
  189. 7:31:57 AM Mimness: Twice as awesome.
  190. 7:31:58 AM Cheeseness: Aaand I didn't blow up the mushroom either >_<
  191. 7:32:03 AM apo: heh
  192. 7:32:10 AM Praash: I hope this game doesn't encourage kids to vacuum their toddler siblings
  193. 7:32:25 AM OTM_John: I hope it does
  194. 7:32:30 AM OTM_John: i've never been in a court case before
  195. 7:32:39 AM apo:
  196. 7:32:47 AM Mimness: BWA HAHAHAHAHA!
  197. 7:32:48 AM Cheeseness: Kids court is a bit easier
  198. 7:33:14 AM apo: whee
  199. 7:33:17 AM OTM_John: honestly, i thought i might get a nasty email about the baby?? maybe? but so far, nothin'
  200. 7:33:19 AM Cheeseness: And here we are again
  201. 7:33:29 AM Cheeseness: I'll slow the pace down now
  202. 7:33:30 AM OTM_John: are we back where we were?
  203. 7:33:34 AM Mimness: The Fall teaches you everything you need to know to be the perfect domestic housew- I mean, droid.
  204. 7:33:50 AM Permafry_42: i guess most people had a disconnect due to the baby being a robot?
  205. 7:33:54 AM OTM_John:
  206. 7:33:57 AM Cheeseness: So at this point, Arid seems to be actively circumventing the tests, but perhaps doesn't realise she might also be circumventing her programming
  207. 7:34:17 AM OTM_John: word!
  208. 7:34:17 AM apo: OTM_John: can you still fall down the elevator to the right of where you start after you've gone up and be unable to get back up?
  209. 7:34:34 AM Cheeseness: I don't think so
  210. 7:34:47 AM apo:
  211. 7:34:54 AM OTM_John: should be fixed, I believe!
  212. 7:35:00 AM apo: (That /was/ pretty stupid of me, though)
  213. 7:35:09 AM OTM_John: hehe well it was also a silly oversight
  214. 7:35:30 AM OTM_John: that actress
  215. 7:35:39 AM OTM_John: i think I mentioned that last time
  216. 7:35:43 AM OTM_John: all the woodens are one person
  217. 7:35:56 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, I was surprised by that
  218. 7:36:23 AM apo: huh
  219. 7:36:44 AM OTM_John: I love the way she delivered that line heh
  220. 7:36:51 AM Cheeseness: Arid?
  221. 7:36:54 AM Mimness: Is this the second female "character" in the game?
  222. 7:36:55 AM OTM_John: yeah
  223. 7:37:07 AM apo: sounds almost as pained as "This... sentence... is... FALSE don'tthinkaboutitdon'tthinkaboutitdon'tthinkaboutit"
  224. 7:37:18 AM OTM_John: hmmm Mimness you might be right actually
  225. 7:37:24 AM OTM_John: hahah apo that was a fantastic line
  226. 7:37:54 AM Cheeseness: That guy always startles me
  227. 7:39:08 AM OTM_John: so I had to add that data point to the track at a later, because although people could see the woman stop, and ARID points it out, a lot of folks still didn't get that the track was broken
  228. 7:39:38 AM Cheeseness: OTM_John: Last week, you mentioned a character from early in development that did the intial evaluation. Would that character have had a greater role later in the game, do you think?
  229. 7:39:42 AM OTM_John: I once worked with a great guy over at Relic who said that when you show players something, you should display the information in 3 ways
  230. 7:39:57 AM OTM_John: nah, I think we're just going to cut him all together
  231. 7:39:58 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, players are really good at missing things
  232. 7:40:04 AM OTM_John: he doesn't fit imo
  233. 7:40:24 AM Mimness: That's interesting - that point about having to show the info 3 ways
  234. 7:41:08 AM OTM_John: it kinda makes sense I think. there's lots of random data on the screen I suppose, so you've got to point certain things out. This game still has a few things that probably don't read as well as they could, I'm sure
  235. 7:41:17 AM Cheeseness: I mean, is there anything else that would have been done by that character
  236. 7:41:22 AM Cheeseness: Whoops, I messed that up a bit
  237. 7:41:27 AM OTM_John: hahaha nice try
  238. 7:41:36 AM OTM_John: Cheese was trying to an achievement there
  239. 7:41:47 AM Cheeseness: I'm not playing the steam version
  240. 7:41:47 AM OTM_John: ** that I need to make a little easier
  241. 7:41:54 AM OTM_John: ah
  242. 7:42:04 AM Mimness: So Cheeseness was just showing off?
  243. 7:42:13 AM apo: *ignores achievements *
  244. 7:42:14 AM OTM_John: hahaha apparently
  245. 7:42:28 AM OTM_John: apo - all of em?
  246. 7:42:38 AM apo: OTM_John: yeah
  247. 7:42:48 AM apo: almost, anyway
  248. 7:42:52 AM Permafry_42: one of the few things i am not sure how i feel about in this game is leveling up based on increased danger. mostly because it reminds me of other m's terrible power up unlock system. that said it makes much more sense in this case than other m's did
  249. 7:43:31 AM OTM_John: That's interesting Permafry, care to elaborate?
  250. 7:43:40 AM OTM_John: I always enjoy critiques (well usually)
  251. 7:43:50 AM apo: I still remember my first contact with achievements, when I saw them in HL2... episode whatever, "Squish all the bugs!"
  252. 7:43:51 AM Cheeseness: I feel like the weapon was always useless until this point
  253. 7:44:02 AM apo: "... yeah, no. Don't need this nonsense."
  254. 7:44:26 AM OTM_John: apo hah yeah I dig. so what drives you when you play games?
  255. 7:44:33 AM Cheeseness: The game itself
  256. 7:44:38 AM apo: OTM_John: -that
  257. 7:44:46 AM Cheeseness: This animation...
  258. 7:44:53 AM OTM_John: which?
  259. 7:44:54 AM Cheeseness: It's a little slapstick
  260. 7:45:06 AM OTM_John: OH! this one that's coming
  261. 7:45:09 AM OTM_John: hahah a tad yes
  262. 7:45:28 AM Permafry_42: well in other m, you could only make use of power ups when your comander told you to, even though in every other metroid game besides fussion this was never the case. However in this case, unlike metroid's feeling of freedom while still being lost and lacking in power, the fall seems to feature a more empowered protagonist that lacks the freedom to be able..
  263. 7:45:31 AM liorean: lol
  264. 7:45:32 AM Permafry_42: to use that power
  265. 7:45:42 AM apo: "Why would you build an automatic watering system if you don't have somebody telling you "Congratulations, you soldered twenty resistors!""
  266. 7:45:47 AM Cheeseness: So it's been interesting to see the way that people observe difficulty in this game. For some it's very easy, for others it's quite challenging
  267. 7:45:52 AM Cheeseness: Anybody got any thoughts on why that may be?
  268. 7:46:17 AM Permafry_42: cheese i'd say its because everyone has different skills, both in games and life
  269. 7:46:21 AM OTM_John: Permafry yeah i see your point, and tbh I haven't played other m - but I heard that and I thought it sounded disgustingly stupid.
  270. 7:46:31 AM apo: Cheeseness: wrong kind of puzzles for my brain
  271. 7:46:48 AM OTM_John: yeah, on the difficulty.. beats me!
  272. 7:46:58 AM Cheeseness: It seems that people familiar with point and click adventure games don't have a problem with the difficulty
  273. 7:47:18 AM Cheeseness: I suspect there's a style of analytical thinking/suspension of disbelief (if you want to view it that way) that those sorts of games encourage
  274. 7:47:29 AM Permafry_42: i think its because point and clicks have a style of thought unique from most other genres
  275. 7:47:38 AM OTM_John: I always had problems in adventure games where you're given a context and have to find a solution that contradicts the context that you're given, which is probalby one of the reasons this game started going in a rule breaking direction
  276. 7:47:50 AM Cheeseness: Permafry_42: That's what I just said ^_^
  277. 7:48:12 AM Cheeseness: I like that this game requires you to readdress things that have already been "solved"
  278. 7:48:27 AM Cheeseness: It's been interesting to see some players completely thrown off by that
  279. 7:48:47 AM OTM_John: can you give an example?
  280. 7:49:33 AM Cheeseness: There's a thread where somebody was very, very lost because they couldn't consider on their own that the dust test would need to be done again
  281. 7:49:56 AM OTM_John: oh! yeah, I'm quite proud of that one in particular actually
  282. 7:50:01 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, I love it
  283. 7:50:05 AM Cheeseness: So at this point, it seems that the Caretaker is helping us
  284. 7:50:05 AM apo:
  285. 7:50:06 AM OTM_John: I love the idea of having to purposely fail things to move forward
  286. 7:50:12 AM apo: hehe
  287. 7:50:37 AM liorean: Reprogramming yourself is not a task to consider lightly...
  288. KingMarth [chatzilla@hide-D9212B2.dynamic.uwaterloo.ca] entered the room. (7:50:48 AM)
  289. 7:51:01 AM Mimness: I think you forgot to get the tag Cheeseness
  290. 7:51:02 AM Praash: oh no, will there be giant story spoilers from now on?
  291. 7:51:04 AM Syd: Hi KingMarth
  292. 7:51:06 AM OTM_John: liorean that's an interesting thing to say
  293. 7:51:10 AM KingMarth: heya
  294. 7:51:25 AM Cheeseness: Hi KingMarth
  295. 7:51:28 AM OTM_John: praash soon, yes
  296. 7:51:51 AM Cheeseness: Have you still not finished Praash
  297. 7:51:57 AM OTM_John: soon-ish, anyway
  298. 7:52:09 AM liorean: John: Think of all the stories of literal genies and the like. And cross that with mind control. Add a dash of being captured in your own mind.
  299. 7:52:09 AM Cheeseness: Some Kickstarter backer faces coming up
  300. 7:52:36 AM OTM_John: that's neet
  301. 7:52:37 AM Praash: absolutely not you're soon at the point of progress I'm at, Cheeseness
  302. 7:52:54 AM The-Mad-Pirate: Hi everyone
  303. 7:52:55 AM OTM_John: That's Danielle's voice!
  304. 7:52:57 AM Cheeseness: Ah well, you're getting close to the end
  305. 7:52:59 AM OTM_John: my lovely lady
  306. 7:53:01 AM Cheeseness: It is! I was going to ask about that
  307. 7:53:01 AM OTMDanielle:
  308. 7:53:07 AM Cheeseness: OTMDanielle: Well done ^_^
  309. 7:53:17 AM The-Mad-Pirate: backers backers backers !
  310. 7:53:26 AM KingMarth: You convinced me, picked this up last day of the Steam Summer Sale. As a programmer, I really enjoyed the puzzles; it's amusing to look at it from the point of view of exploiting someone who lazily left loopholes in the challenge (in-universe, of course).
  311. 7:53:32 AM apo: The-Mad-Pirate: hi
  312. 7:53:39 AM The-Mad-Pirate: apo: Hi There !
  313. 7:53:48 AM OTM_John: KingMarth - thanks!
  314. 7:54:10 AM Cheeseness: There's a "him"
  315. 7:54:12 AM The-Mad-Pirate: not sure what you guys are playing today ! I have been out of this loop lately
  316. 7:54:25 AM Cheeseness: The-Mad-Pirate: The Fall - a game I helped out a little with
  317. 7:54:34 AM apo: OTM_John: does anything happen if you wait long enough before frying the robot matrix?
  318. 7:54:39 AM The-Mad-Pirate: Cheeseness: Congrats then !
  319. 7:54:54 AM The-Mad-Pirate: OTM _
  320. 7:54:56 AM Cheeseness: OTM_John and OTMDanielle are the ones behind the game
  321. 7:54:58 AM The-Mad-Pirate: ?
  322. 7:55:03 AM OTM_John: apo - nope! we had a few questions about that actually.
  323. 7:55:11 AM OTMDanielle: Mostly OTM_John
  324. 7:55:14 AM apo: OTM_John: mean
  325. 7:55:21 AM The-Mad-Pirate: OTM == ?????
  326. 7:55:21 AM KingMarth: Glad I saw that other branch of the dialogue - for some reason I read "Disengage" as "Back off and listen" rather than "Stop talking"
  327. 7:55:21 AM OTM_John: we sort of expected some hate for that hehehe
  328. 7:55:30 AM OTM_John: Over The Moon
  329. 7:55:36 AM apo: The-Mad-Pirate: One Time Mat
  330. 7:55:46 AM Praash: how many people have acted the voice dialogs in this game, OTM_John?
  331. 7:55:50 AM The-Mad-Pirate: apo: Thanks !
  332. RUBICN64 [Android@778054CE:DBF3806A:5B8A8EA9:IP] entered the room. (7:55:52 AM)
  333. 7:56:01 AM Permafry_42: hi rubic!
  334. 7:56:08 AM OTM_John: Praash - 5!
  335. 7:56:21 AM Cheeseness: A bit of text here talking about how some scavengers found the facility, hoping to salvage some equipment and wound up with more unpleasantness than they were expecting
  336. 7:56:29 AM OTM_John: 4 actors that we hired, and my girlfriend
  337. 7:56:36 AM apo: The-Mad-Pirate: (Read OTM_John's line for the actual meaning)
  338. 7:56:42 AM The-Mad-Pirate: there should be a "Scratches" session someday
  339. 7:56:43 AM Praash: but you didn't want to try acting yourself?
  340. 7:56:51 AM OTM_John: Scratches is fucking fantastic
  341. 7:56:52 AM The-Mad-Pirate: apo: hahahahha OK
  342. 7:56:59 AM OTM_John: I'm a crap actor
  343. 7:57:01 AM Cheeseness: How did you go about casting?
  344. 7:57:08 AM Cheeseness: You did placeholder dialogue though, OTM_John
  345. 7:57:13 AM OTM_John: sent out a casting call through a few channels
  346. 7:57:25 AM OTM_John: did i???
  347. 7:57:32 AM Cheeseness: So the logs here tell us that a mainboard was dropped somewhere on this level when they were attacked
  348. 7:57:37 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, in the trailers and stuff
  349. 7:57:51 AM OTM_John: oh! the trailers.. yes.
  350. 7:57:53 AM OTMDanielle: Caleb, our writer, reached out to his connections in the Vancouver acting community as well
  351. 7:58:04 AM OTM_John: yeah, Caleb pretty much drove it
  352. 7:58:08 AM KingMarth: Since the first slug you see didn't die when you shot it (otherwise you wouldn't get the head), I thought that all you could do was scare them off
  353. 7:58:10 AM OTM_John: he was great
  354. 7:58:29 AM OTM_John: KingMarth - makes sense!
  355. 7:58:32 AM Cheeseness: I love that everybody picks up the stuff before they read what it is
  356. 7:59:02 AM OTM_John: Cheeseness - do they? is that the idea you got from the forums?
  357. 7:59:05 AM KingMarth: When there were three of them on screen spitting acid at me, I tried again, and that cleared things up quickly enough
  358. 7:59:34 AM Cheeseness: I've had the opportunity to watch a few people play
  359. 7:59:42 AM OTM_John: oh! right
  360. 7:59:44 AM KingMarth: The reactants, definitely; glowing test tubes must go in inventory, find out what they do later if ever
  361. 7:59:49 AM liorean: Cheese: It's a common adventure game thing - some games even don't allow you to identify things without them being in your inventory. So it gets to be a habit.
  362. 7:59:50 AM Cheeseness: People go for the bright objects before the computer
  363. 7:59:55 AM Cheeseness: Yeah
  364. 8:00:24 AM OTM_John: My best friend actually hated this game. he doesn't read shit - not tutorials, on screen messages, data points, nothing. thinks he can figure it out himself or something? anyway I decided it wasn't for him...
  365. 8:00:24 AM Cheeseness: Praash: Time to avoid spoilers
  366. 8:00:34 AM KingMarth: This one I solved by brute force, I knew I'd need to use the fluid to fix the board but it didn't occur to me that pouring out the limited amount would magnetically find it
  367. 8:00:37 AM Praash: oh right, you've just gone past my progress
  368. 8:00:39 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, that's a good call, OTM_John
  369. 8:00:59 AM Cheeseness: I kept trying to put it in the shower to disperse it
  370. 8:01:16 AM OTM_John: KingMarth - the ol' try everything in your inventory on everything in the environment gag?
  371. 8:01:43 AM KingMarth: Yep, the inventory is constrained enough and interaction quick enough that it's doable
  372. 8:01:44 AM apo: OTM_John: that never works
  373. 8:01:55 AM Cheeseness: heh
  374. 8:02:14 AM OTMDanielle: that's how I beat Monkey Island in the 90s... "click click click click click"
  375. 8:02:18 AM Cheeseness: I really wanted to see a camera push in at this point (but it works without it)
  376. 8:02:22 AM apo: hmm
  377. 8:02:24 AM apo: should script it
  378. 8:02:32 AM medacris: I like how Admin talks more like a human, but acts more like a robot, and vice versa for Arid.
  379. 8:02:50 AM Cheeseness: I remember a friend of mine got stuck in Monkey 2 for ages because they were using a UK walkthrough and didn't know what "Half-inch the dog" meant
  380. 8:03:04 AM apo: *twitch*
  381. 8:03:13 AM OTM_John: haha I don't know what the hell that means either
  382. 8:03:20 AM Praash: that expression sounds very wrong in ethical levels o.-
  383. 8:03:22 AM Cheeseness: It means pinch - steal
  384. 8:03:30 AM apo: Cheeseness: Oo
  385. 8:03:32 AM Cheeseness: Cockney rhyming slang
  386. 8:03:33 AM OTM_John: oh it's ryming slang
  387. 8:03:40 AM medacris: It sounds like Surfer slang.
  388. 8:03:45 AM Cheeseness: There's that painting again
  389. 8:03:53 AM Cheeseness: Ah, the Jaw Fish
  390. 8:03:58 AM OTM_John: Why in the name of god would you put Cockney rhyming slang in an instructional document
  391. 8:04:00 AM Cheeseness: True facts about the Jaw Fish
  392. 8:04:00 AM KingMarth: This part didn't really click for me, you've been doing practically nothing all game other than killing robots, so these ones in the background changing color for your prime directive didn't feel any different
  393. 8:04:02 AM OTM_John: that's pure evil
  394. 8:04:07 AM apo: OTM_John: because it's Monkey Island
  395. 8:04:10 AM apo:
  396. 8:04:42 AM Cheeseness: Down we go!
  397. 8:04:44 AM OTM_John: heh i suppose
  398. 8:04:59 AM OTM_John: don't forget the syrup!
  399. 8:05:02 AM KingMarth: Well, 'practically nothing' is harsh, but all robot-related encounters end with robot death
  400. 8:05:05 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, I just realised I didn't grab it
  401. 8:05:14 AM OTM_John: you still didn't! oh well
  402. 8:05:27 AM Cheeseness: I had already gone down the lift
  403. 8:05:38 AM OTM_John: oh! hehe right. lag
  404. 8:05:47 AM Cheeseness: Thanks Twitch D
  405. 8:05:48 AM Cheeseness:
  406. 8:05:55 AM apo: Thitch
  407. 8:05:55 AM Cheeseness: Syd: Did you end up finishing it?
  408. 8:06:10 AM OTM_John: yeah KingMarth, it's a good point.. we had hoped that the player would feel a bit different about aggressive attacking robots as opposed to innocent peaceful robots
  409. 8:06:14 AM Cheeseness: Ha ha, apo!
  410. 8:06:23 AM Syd: I wasn't able to yet, but I don't mind spoilers
  411. 8:06:26 AM Cheeseness: Aww
  412. 8:06:51 AM Syd: I've been purposefully trying to not pay much attention to puzzles so I'll still have to do some work to solve them
  413. 8:06:56 AM Cheeseness: OTM_John: In retrospect how do you feel about this and the wire puzzle? Are you comfortable with player reactions to this less common inventory interaction style?
  414. 8:07:22 AM OTM_John: yeah, still not sure
  415. 8:07:29 AM KingMarth: There was the one floor-sweeping robot I saw once, that one didn't try to kill me
  416. 8:07:33 AM Cheeseness: Plank sdisappears
  417. 8:07:49 AM OTM_John: I like the idea of having a visual in the world, as opposed to carying around a bunch of buzzing flies in your pants...
  418. 8:08:06 AM Cheeseness: But putting stuff in your pants is what adventure games are all about!
  419. 8:08:07 AM apo: What was the wire puzzle again? I wasn't paying attention...
  420. 8:08:07 AM Cheeseness:
  421. 8:08:09 AM KingMarth: Localized inventory makes sense, though I'd kind of like some HUD indicator for it
  422. 8:08:11 AM OTM_John: I know it sounds silly but there's a certain size of object that even, for me, breaks the adventure 4th wall, like ah uge roll of wire
  423. 8:08:26 AM apo: oh, that
  424. 8:08:26 AM apo: right
  425. 8:08:37 AM OTM_John: yeah a notifier would be a good thing to have
  426. 8:09:00 AM Cheeseness: I proably should've gone downstairs before grabbing the fish guts, but oh well
  427. 8:09:02 AM KingMarth: The giant roll of wire was clear as that just introduced the concept, this one I found more by accident, tried to pick it up first then looked at the plank and saw another item in the list
  428. 8:09:04 AM apo: just make everything that you can click on glow red!
  429. 8:09:24 AM KingMarth: At least after you've found it, maybe?
  430. 8:09:53 AM Permafry_42: you can always explain inventories away by way of a fictional hammerspace
  431. 8:10:12 AM KingMarth: Already has antimatter shields and a cloaking device
  432. 8:10:16 AM Permafry_42: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerspace
  433. 8:10:24 AM Cheeseness: Yay, this is my favourite kind of shower
  434. 8:10:25 AM OTM_John: after you've already interacted with it that isn't such a bad idea, but I think a little icon in the bottom left of the screen would probably work best. we've had a few requests to make the interactive stuff more visible, but I'm afraid it'd flatten out the game a bit
  435. 8:10:51 AM OTM_John: I think this was the last puzzle we put in
  436. 8:10:59 AM OTM_John: it used to be that you just needed to have the guts in your inventory
  437. 8:11:09 AM OTM_John: it seemed a little bit shitty in terms of puzzle quality
  438. 8:11:14 AM Syd: For some comedic adventures, sometimes putting ridiculous stuff in your inventory is part of the humor. There's a number of examples in Monkey Island.
  439. 8:11:30 AM KingMarth: Inventory can only be checked when you're looking at an interactable right now; if it lived somewhere on screen then dropping things in would follow naturally
  440. 8:11:34 AM OTM_John: Syd yeah that's true, although we weren't sure about that with The Fall...
  441. 8:11:40 AM KingMarth: Clutters things up though
  442. 8:11:55 AM Cheeseness: Yeah
  443. 8:12:13 AM Syd: Yeah, for the more serious games, I just try to not think about the silliness of the character trying to hold all their inventory somewhere.
  444. 8:12:15 AM Permafry_42: you could also just say that the suit can create a wormhole to a large place to store the items in
  445. 8:12:34 AM KingMarth: This also didn't quite click, never saw it as a choice
  446. 8:12:47 AM OTM_John: maybe hammer space explains SCP-106....
  447. 8:13:09 AM Cheeseness: I think you're given the opportunity to feel regret about it
  448. 8:13:17 AM medacris: Oooh, another SCP fan!
  449. 8:13:30 AM OTM_John: hahah I was hoping there'd be someone!
  450. 8:14:05 AM Cheeseness: I really feel like the eggs need some sort of indicator or feedback to help draw attention to them
  451. 8:14:05 AM apo: that's enormous
  452. 8:14:05 AM OTM_John: SCP is fucking fantastic
  453. 8:14:11 AM apo: I'll put it in my wormhole
  454. 8:14:18 AM OTM_John: yeah the eggssss
  455. 8:14:23 AM KingMarth: Oh, the wall-walker... I prefer a Dirac Sea for it
  456. 8:14:26 AM Cheeseness: Like steam from the torch again or something
  457. 8:14:27 AM apo: Cheeseness: they're glowing!
  458. 8:14:35 AM Permafry_42: i like the creepiness of the alien design
  459. 8:14:56 AM OTM_John: every once in a while, that queen animation doesn't play
  460. 8:15:00 AM OTM_John: god only knows why
  461. 8:15:19 AM KingMarth: For those that tried to solve problems by shooting babies, now it's the right choice
  462. 8:15:29 AM Cheeseness: lol
  463. 8:15:32 AM apo:
  464. 8:15:45 AM Cheeseness: apo: I'm not sure that glowing makes them feel interactable
  465. 8:15:49 AM medacris: My favorite thing is still "Things Dr. Bright Is Not Allowed To Do At The SCP Fundation"
  466. 8:15:55 AM apo: (Don't try to say that it's not the first thing you tried )
  467. 8:16:16 AM Cheeseness: I thought they were just scenery first time I encountered them
  468. 8:16:20 AM KingMarth: Of course it is? "How would a military droid try to make someone quiet?"
  469. 8:16:22 AM apo: shooting the speakers should be a viable option
  470. 8:16:24 AM Cheeseness: (I got it before long though)
  471. 8:16:40 AM apo: KingMarth: by sucking on them, apparently
  472. 8:16:57 AM Syd: OTM_John, medacris: Have both of you played SCP Containment Breach?
  473. 8:16:57 AM apo: not the kind of thing I'd imagine being part of a military android's job
  474. 8:17:05 AM apo: seems more like a domestic thing :V
  475. 8:17:10 AM Cheeseness: Yay, it's raining
  476. 8:17:11 AM Cheeseness: \o/
  477. 8:17:14 AM OTM_John: syd - no - I really don't mean to sound disrespectful but it looks kinda crap
  478. 8:17:17 AM OTM_John: is it any good?
  479. 8:17:39 AM OTM_John: I'd love to make an scp game and art the shit out of it
  480. 8:17:51 AM Syd: It's not too bad, I think it's alright for something that's free. It's still kinda buggy and unpolished, though.
  481. 8:17:52 AM Cheeseness: Oh noes!
  482. 8:18:04 AM OTM_John: oh noes?
  483. 8:18:06 AM OTM_John: what happend?
  484. 8:18:09 AM KingMarth: This part did work for me, good use of menu trick
  485. 8:18:10 AM Cheeseness: It was so pleasant and raining slug guts and everything
  486. 8:18:15 AM Cheeseness: Now our life support is dropping
  487. 8:18:15 AM apo: OTM_John: something exploded
  488. 8:18:38 AM Syd: SCP-173 likes to drop from ceilings in Containment Breach.
  489. 8:18:40 AM OTM_John: I think cam did a nice job with this music track
  490. 8:18:41 AM Cheeseness: First time I played, I left it to see what would happen when the meter expired. Turns out there was a bug and it started going up again
  491. 8:19:06 AM apo: hahaha
  492. 8:19:08 AM OTM_John: oh lol
  493. 8:19:11 AM OTM_John: okay well lets find out
  494. 8:19:11 AM Cheeseness: That was long, long before launch
  495. 8:19:14 AM OTM_John: it should just wait there
  496. 8:19:19 AM apo: OTM_John: did you use an uint16?
  497. 8:19:22 AM Cheeseness: Yeah, it stops here now
  498. 8:19:24 AM KingMarth: Hmm, fridge logic has me questioning now why I get a Life Support track when it's damaged
  499. 8:19:29 AM Mimness: So intense
  500. 8:19:34 AM OTM_John: apo nope!
  501. 8:20:01 AM OTM_John: we were thinking about making a sequence here
  502. 8:20:08 AM OTM_John: so when it runs out the droid comes and smashes you or something
  503. 8:20:22 AM OTM_John: but we thought that so few people would see it, and we had better things to do with our time...
  504. 8:20:29 AM Cheeseness: Could've had Arid fall to her knees and fade out
  505. 8:20:37 AM Cheeseness: Ha ha, you underestimate people
  506. 8:20:42 AM OTM_John: yeah! could have
  507. 8:20:43 AM Cheeseness: It's probably for the best that it doesn't expire
  508. 8:21:01 AM Cheeseness: Because that could impact on later story revelations
  509. 8:21:10 AM Cheeseness: Or at least on how people perceive them
  510. 8:21:12 AM KingMarth: Here I'd really like to have a dialog option, "Continue Repairs" vs "Interrupt Repairs", with the second disabled due to Rule 3
  511. 8:21:32 AM Mimness: TnT The administrator...
  512. 8:22:06 AM OTM_John: yeah he was our buddy.
  513. 8:22:10 AM OTM_John: it's a bummer.
  514. 8:22:25 AM OTM_John: got caleb to thank for making that work
  515. 8:22:26 AM KingMarth: Him I cared about
  516. 8:22:41 AM OTM_John: shoot those fuckers!
  517. 8:22:51 AM KingMarth: It was this scene where I found out a few intricacies of the combat system
  518. 8:23:02 AM apo: OTM_John: I barely ever used the cloak mode, btw
  519. 8:23:22 AM Cheeseness: I hope that in the next game we get to explore Arid feeling responsibility and regret for the Administrator
  520. 8:23:23 AM KingMarth: I had always been holding down right mouse to identify environment, and died a few times here because I was left-clicking to fire while not in flashlight mode
  521. 8:23:32 AM OTM_John: I think we're going to give combat a little more love in part 2
  522. 8:23:40 AM apo: OTM_John: doing headshots and waiting a few secs was usually fast enough to keep the shield high
  523. 8:23:42 AM Cheeseness: Mmm, that'll be fun >
  524. 8:24:11 AM apo: KingMarth: apparently we're not supposed to keep the flashlight out all the time
  525. 8:24:13 AM Cheeseness: So the caretaker seems very injured and unable to move freely at this point
  526. 8:24:14 AM apo: or so cheese told me
  527. 8:24:30 AM Permafry_42: is the fog effect during the elevator sequence supposed to still be showing while you go up in the elevator?
  528. 8:24:49 AM Cheeseness: Well, it gives you the tradeoff of exploring vs moving around. You stop and use the flashlight when you don't want to run around
  529. 8:25:06 AM apo: *dicts some juries over Cheeseness *
  530. 8:25:13 AM KingMarth: I used Cloak a lot, and died again when the same button as Cloak (hold to be safe) context-shifted to Cover... where I kneeled behind a short wall with torso out in the open because it turns out you need to right-click to actually take cover
  531. 8:25:16 AM Cheeseness: So that you discover things when you're specifically looking
  532. 8:25:49 AM OTM_John: permafry_42 - sorry, I don't understand. what?
  533. 8:26:05 AM Cheeseness: Oh, I messed that up
  534. 8:26:25 AM KingMarth: I appreciate the idea of Metroid adventure game, but yeah, the combat controls need to be a lot tighter if you'll rely on it much
  535. 8:26:26 AM apo: OTM_John: can you actually lose this fight? 'cause I was terrible at it and still won <_<
  536. 8:26:33 AM OTM_John: ah! he died!
  537. 8:26:33 AM apo: ... ah
  538. 8:26:47 AM apo: apparently it's been changed
  539. 8:26:54 AM OTM_John: apo- nope!
  540. 8:27:03 AM apo: OTM_John: uh?
  541. 8:27:14 AM OTM_John: it hasn't been changed
  542. 8:27:26 AM OTM_John: it's just as hard as it was on launch, I believe
  543. 8:27:42 AM KingMarth: It took me a good four or five cycles for me to figure out I needed to shoot those things in the corners, I kept switching to Flashlight and looking for something to interact with
  544. 8:27:43 AM apo: OTM_John: I seem to recall that Carey would just drop my shield and then not damage me
  545. 8:27:45 AM OTM_John: take your time and head shot!
  546. 8:27:59 AM apo: or maybe even get life support down, but never past a certain threshold
  547. 8:28:06 AM apo: weird...
  548. 8:28:12 AM Permafry_42: OTM_John when you go up in an elevator, the ellipses for the fog effect that shows during the rest of the game is still shown overtop background, even though you're inside the elevator.
  549. 8:28:12 AM Cheeseness: Gotta make it exciting!
  550. 8:28:14 AM OTM_John: apo interesting. there is a slight bug, exploit, what ever
  551. 8:28:28 AM OTM_John: where if you shields recharge just a tiny bit, he'll destroy your shields but you won't take life support dmaage
  552. 8:28:37 AM apo: OTM_John: at some point I actually stopped even dodging and still won
  553. 8:29:03 AM Cheeseness: What do we reckon we should do?
  554. 8:29:13 AM Cheeseness: Leave the Caretaker or not?
  555. 8:29:28 AM medacris: It's a good discussion on what counts as 'following the rules' or not.
  556. 8:29:29 AM OTM_John: leave him
  557. 8:29:31 AM KingMarth: It's still alive at that point?
  558. 8:29:38 AM OTM_John: yeah a little bit
  559. 8:29:43 AM KingMarth: I'll have to play again just to finish it off
  560. 8:29:43 AM OTM_John: he's awl fuhked up
  561. 8:30:01 AM OTM_John: still not sure if we want to bring him back in some tiny capacty in ep 2
  562. 8:30:01 AM Cheeseness: lol, mushroom
  563. 8:30:12 AM medacris: Voting to save, because I missed his old persona
  564. 8:30:13 AM apo: leave him, unable to move, forced to eternally relive these moments?
  565. 8:30:30 AM apo: ... assuming that his batteries last
  566. 8:30:45 AM OTM_John: I wonder what he'll do now that he's broken and therefore faulty
  567. 8:31:03 AM Cheeseness: heh, I love this
  568. 8:31:23 AM Cheeseness: OTM_John: That implies that he was not faulty already - I like the ambiguity that he might be
  569. 8:31:31 AM KingMarth: The struck-out "Lie" option was great throughout
  570. 8:32:07 AM Cheeseness:
  571. 8:32:16 AM OTM_John: oh sure Cheeseness I agree, but now it'd be hard for even him to deny now
  572. 8:32:23 AM Cheeseness: Totally
  573. 8:32:50 AM Cheeseness: Or maybe not - I could see him being fixated on Arid's malfunction over his own
  574. 8:32:50 AM OTM_John: you got an achievement there
  575. 8:33:07 AM Cheeseness: I already had it
  576. 8:33:14 AM KingMarth: I think he was pretty clearly faulty, he had lost one of his rules (one about not killing humans) and tried to keep going by overenforcing the others (replace ineffective objects)
  577. 8:33:29 AM Cheeseness: Bit of a bug there with the shields, I think?
  578. 8:33:36 AM apo: KingMarth: why so sure that it was one of /his/ rules?
  579. 8:33:43 AM apo: these aren't the three laws we're talking about
  580. 8:34:02 AM OTM_John: Cheese - missed the bug
  581. 8:34:09 AM OTM_John: yeah every bot has different rules
  582. 8:34:10 AM KingMarth: Best guess, given that he was around incompetent people for a long time and only recently started crucifying
  583. 8:34:31 AM KingMarth: It's also a pretty handy rule to throw in there as a squishy human
  584. 8:34:31 AM Cheeseness: The shield continued going down to zero long after I'd left the mushroom
  585. 8:35:21 AM Cheeseness: Poor Levi
  586. 8:35:33 AM apo: heh
  587. 8:35:45 AM apo: that's gotta be the one place in the game I didn't see in my run
  588. 8:35:50 AM apo: never went to the left of the elevator there
  589. 8:36:17 AM KingMarth: "My intentions are peaceful."
  590. 8:36:39 AM Permafry_42: i like the different voice arid has during this conversation
  591. 8:37:07 AM OTM_John: cheers. Allison did a great job being emotionless but slowly letting a bit in
  592. 8:37:09 AM Mimness: WOOOOOOOOOOOOAH
  593. 8:37:57 AM KingMarth: I expected a corpse, this was interesting
  594. 8:37:57 AM medacris: Ariiiiid!
  595. 8:37:57 AM Cheeseness: Pulling Arid's arm off there is a nice move
  596. 8:38:47 AM Cheeseness: I might scroll a little through the credits
  597. 8:38:58 AM OTM_John: hehe
  598. 8:39:00 AM apo: OTM_John: so, where's the CPU located? The thing must get pretty warm with all this processing going on
  599. 8:39:03 AM Permafry_42: *claps*
  600. 8:39:04 AM Cheeseness: Whilst people reel from the memory of their first finish
  601. 8:39:21 AM KingMarth: Not sure about losing both of the remaining rules, so soon after establishing that it can happen at all... Does mean she's unbound now, though
  602. 8:39:24 AM Cheeseness: Oh, there's me
  603. 8:39:31 AM OTM_John: thanks permafry! apo good question! perhaps she has multiple
  604. 8:39:39 AM medacris: Thanks, guys!
  605. 8:39:45 AM medacris: This was fun
  606. 8:39:58 AM OTM_John: KingMarth - that's the general idea i think yeah. we can start episode 2 from there..
  607. 8:40:02 AM Cheeseness: Lots of supporters ^_^
  608. 8:40:04 AM OTM_John: cheers medacris
  609. 8:40:10 AM Permafry_42: i like that you got to add "cheeseness" to your credit
  610. 8:40:20 AM OTM_John: haha yeah
  611. 8:40:22 AM apo: I wonder if I have a backer entry there
  612. 8:40:30 AM Cheeseness: Ha ha, I think this build still has some swears in the backer credits
  613. 8:40:33 AM OTM_John: gah! iforgot, i still need to alphebatize these
  614. Sven_Q45 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:40:39 AM)
  615. 8:40:42 AM Cheeseness: Permafry_42: It's my name ^_^
  616. 8:40:42 AM OTM_John: really? hah
  617. 8:40:44 AM apo: yup
  618. 8:40:48 AM apo: huh
  619. Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-4DA91BCD.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room. (8:40:56 AM)
  620. 8:41:05 AM apo: never scrolled to it
  621. 8:41:19 AM Cheeseness: Yay
  622. 8:41:22 AM KingMarth: Oh, I recall one of the teaser videos mentioning that A.R.I.D.-spec AIs are terminated on successful return to base, but I don't think that was mentioned in the game... is that still true?
  623. 8:41:28 AM Cheeseness: So, The Fall. I really like it
  624. 8:41:39 AM apo: this concludes our playthrough of default
  625. 8:41:40 AM OTM_John: you're the best Cheese
  626. 8:41:43 AM Mimness: Yeah. Good game, good game.
  627. 8:41:43 AM Permafry_42: thanks to cheese for streaming
  628. 8:41:43 AM medacris: Seeya next week, all
  629. 8:41:44 AM Cheeseness: I think it was implied that Arid would be terminated
  630. 8:41:47 AM Sven_Q45: Yeah. The Raven.
  631. 8:41:50 AM Cheeseness: Cheers, medacris
  632. 8:41:56 AM Syd: Outro's ended
  633. 8:41:56 AM medacris: Hope to see you all again
  634. 8:41:57 AM apo: OTM_John: I like roquefort
  635. medacris left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:42:00 AM)
  636. 8:42:03 AM apo: Cheeseness: thanks~
  637. 8:42:05 AM Permafry_42: I'll be streaming next week
  638. 8:42:12 AM Cheeseness: Terminated/formatted
  639. OTMDanielle left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client). (8:42:14 AM)
  640. 8:42:15 AM OTM_John: KingMarth - nope! we were playing with that but didn't have the story fleshed out at that point yet
  641. 8:42:32 AM OTM_John: thanks all!
  642. 8:42:38 AM Cheeseness: Oh
  643. 8:42:40 AM OTM_John: this was great
  644. 8:42:43 AM apo: roquefort goes well with whisky, too
  645. 8:42:45 AM KingMarth: She had some parts talking to herself earlier where she logged recommendations to format herself on return due to her 'cheats', implying more that it's unusual
  646. 8:42:52 AM Cheeseness: Mim's asking if there are plans for a "My intentions are peaceful" t-shirt
  647. 8:43:00 AM Permafry_42: thanks to everyone for joining us!
  648. 8:43:13 AM Cheeseness: (with the full "I am the A.R.I.D. aboard a Mk7 combat suit" line)
  649. 8:43:15 AM OTM_John: hahaha that's a funny idea
  650. 8:43:24 AM apo: hmm
  651. 8:43:30 AM OTM_John: wow that's a weird tshirt
  652. 8:43:32 AM apo: I could make one for myself, anyway
  653. 8:43:34 AM KingMarth: But would the shirt also have the 10-pack abs?
  654. 8:43:44 AM apo: we have a knife plotter at our lab
  655. 8:43:59 AM apo: or whatever they're called in English
  656. 8:44:05 AM Cheeseness: Lathe?
  657. 8:44:08 AM OTM_John: i could make a tacky arid armour t shirt
  658. 8:44:12 AM Mimness: Oh just that introductory line that she says a few times. I like it.
  659. 8:44:15 AM OTM_John: I would sell 2
  660. 8:44:19 AM apo: Cheeseness: no, a plotter with a knife instead of something for drawing
  661. 8:44:24 AM Cheeseness: Ohhh
  662. 8:44:28 AM OTM_John: yeah Mimness I get you
  663. 8:44:45 AM apo: Cheeseness: so you can cut flex sheets and iron them onto a shirt
  664. 8:44:52 AM Cheeseness: Even something with "My intentions are peaceful" and the database-like logo that Arid has on her faceplate could be neat
  665. 8:45:01 AM KingMarth: I like the thought of ARIDs being transient, explains not knowing much about the actual pilot
  666. 8:45:04 AM Cheeseness: I sort of wish that that symbol was more visible in-game
  667. 8:45:36 AM Cheeseness: Is there much context/history behind that, OTM_John?
  668. 8:45:41 AM Mimness: Even though her intentions are "peaceful" she sure does a lot of damage.
  669. 8:45:50 AM OTM_John: which symbol, sorry?
  670. 8:45:55 AM Cheeseness: The one on the faceplate
  671. 8:46:05 AM OTM_John: OH! right hehehe
  672. 8:46:14 AM OTM_John: that was made before I had any idea about the game what so ever
  673. 8:46:19 AM apo: Mimness: all the robots that are attacking her are part of a faulty mechanism, they don't count
  674. 8:46:23 AM KingMarth: Ever seen the anime Gargantia on the Verduous Planet? That one has a "Pilot Support" AI in the combat suit, taking the other way around where the AI actively works alongside the soldier
  675. 8:46:24 AM OTM_John: just a random art decision, I'm afraid - no meaning there
  676. 8:46:55 AM OTM_John: I haven't seen those KingMarth, maybe I should take a look?
  677. 8:47:05 AM KingMarth: Her intentions are peaceful, not her fault everything she encounters tries to format/shoot/rip out pieces of her
  678. 8:47:47 AM Mimness: Yeah I like that her intentions are peaceful, but that she'll kick whatever butt she has to
  679. 8:47:54 AM KingMarth: Licensed free streaming here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/gargantia-on-the-verdurous-planet
  680. 8:48:00 AM Cheeseness: Nice
  681. 8:48:32 AM KingMarth: The first episode or two gives you most of the interplay between the soldier Ledo and his AI Chamber; Chamber is practically more human than the human is
  682. 8:48:38 AM OTM_John: nice, thanks
  683. 8:48:49 AM OTM_John: oh, crunchyrool
  684. 8:49:00 AM OTM_John: i watched a little Naruto on this sucker
  685. 8:49:59 AM Permafry_42: i love watching mushishi and one piece on cruchyroll
  686. 8:50:04 AM OTM_John: Mimness - I kinda like the idea of having a game that mostly isn't violent, but doesn't stay away from it
  687. 8:50:15 AM Permafry_42: tonari no seki-kun is pretty good too
  688. 8:50:28 AM Mimness: Right, well I may have to head off. Thanks so much to Cheeseness and OTM_John :3
  689. 8:50:35 AM Cheeseness: Thanks for coming ^_^
  690. 8:50:41 AM OTM_John: thank you!
  691. 8:50:45 AM Permafry_42: cya mimi!
  692. 8:50:51 AM OTM_John: and perhaps I will head off as well
  693. 8:50:54 AM Syd: Thanks for joining us!
  694. 8:51:01 AM Cheeseness: Thanks heaps for coming, OTM_John
  695. 8:51:05 AM KingMarth: Nice chatting with the designer, yeah
  696. 8:51:14 AM apo: good night, John \o
  697. 8:51:15 AM OTM_John: you guys are fantastic
  698. 8:51:18 AM apo: and Mimness
  699. 8:51:18 AM OTM_John: thanks for having me!
  700. 8:51:26 AM KingMarth: Good luck with part 2
  701. 8:51:35 AM OTM_John: ah cheers man
  702. 8:51:39 AM OTM_John: we'll be workin' on it!
  703. 8:51:48 AM Mimness:
  704. 8:51:50 AM OTM_John: bye all!
