Howdy Fam!

Wow! Thanks so much to everybody who joined together in making the first FAMILY TREE event such a beautiful, loving and communal happening. From the many seasoned veterans and familiar faces, staunch supporters and fixtures of the underground, to the enthusiastic newcomers who had yet to experience the "ol' ETG". Which ever way you slice it, that night was pure magic! It really DOES take a village. And we ALL play an important part in keeping that genuine vibe alive. And most importantly, it was simply wonderful to be in that familiar, well-worn and homey space again with everyone! Seriously!, Thank you. ♥

This event's theme is titled 'FREAKS OF A FEATHER'; an homage to ALL OF US out there who support this city, the music, our culture, and who are in it for the long haul. In a way, it's also a tribute to all of the courageous locals who still keep our neighborhoods full of flavor, alive, despite these rapidly changing store fronts and times. From the mom n' pop, independent business owners, to the diligent groovers who travel from miles around every weekend for years, to our brother/sister underground, queer and fringe venues that also keep it real (What's up, Rebar, Pony, Mercury, Eagle & Monkey Loft), and all of the fun-loving mutants that make this big ol' town with big-assed growing pains...still so very, very fly. This is for 'us and them', 'freaks of a feather'.

Nowadays, with gentrification in our faces, and wealthy strangers in our parking spaces, it is more important than ever for us to support our Hill, to gather together safely and constructively, to spend our hard-won dollars locally, to volunteer frequently, to show our creativity, and to be very, very visible. So with that in heart and mind, let's all really show our colors for this one. In other words...LET YOUR FREAK FLAGS FLY, YA' FREAKIN' WEIRDOS!

When in doubt, recycle and/or revamp that amazing Halloween get-up, Swap costumes with a friend, etc.) Random, cool swag/prize giveaways for those who dress to express (in other words, creative, mutant, artsy-fartsy, drag, or as anyone or anything else that's fun, thought provoking, or original in some way).
