  2. [2014-07-30 13:05:30] <Kkat> 3Once on the other side of the chasm, there is only a short stretch of jungle between the ponies and the ziggurat. Most of them can see it between the trees. The reason for the oddness of the design becomes quickly apparent...
  3. [2014-07-30 13:05:37] <Kkat> 3Flows of solid stone cover parts of the pyramid, covering what would have been the staircase up each side, as well as defacing some manner of once grandiose sculptural entrance. Parts of the original sculpture protrude from the stone flows, resembling tall, pointed bat-ears.
  4. [2014-07-30 13:05:44] <Kkat> 3And a break in the flow reveals a recess where, if the sculpture had been a skull, the left eye should be. Within the recess, a ruby of immense size catches the sunlight, making the "eye" seem to glow demonically. The stone flow splits around what would have been the sculpture's "mouth", revealing a gaping opening filled with stairs.
  5. [2014-07-30 13:05:50] <Kkat> 3Ahools circle around the top of the ziggurat.
  6. [2014-07-30 13:05:57] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream seems disturbed, but undeterred. Her eyes dart around, face contorted in a way that one can tell that in no small way she knows that this is a terrible idea, walking up towards and up the steps quietly.
  7. [2014-07-30 13:06:02] <Kkat> 3CopyCat looks up and up and up at the ziggurat. "Wow..."
  8. [2014-07-30 13:06:11] <Kkat> 3Noble_Heart looks up towards the ziggurat. "Who, and how, would deface this place?" She followed close by Golden Dream. Intent on not allowing the local dangers to harm her companion.
  9. [2014-07-30 13:06:21] <Kkat> 3As Golden_Dream approaches, her PipBuck flashes a message. >> DDA Report IV found. Download complete. << Get_Lost and Shatara quickly receive the same.
  10. [2014-07-30 13:06:26] <Kkat> 3Bookwright looks up in awe. "That... is really quite disturbing. But also cool! I wonder how they got the stone to look like it was flowing like thick ooze?"
  11. [2014-07-30 13:06:32] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream "Folks like me without m' sense o' caution. Stay quiet." She whispered. When the blip hits her, she stopped in place, closing her eyes for a moment before continuing.
  12. [2014-07-30 13:06:38] <Kkat> 3Bookwright shuts up.
  13. [2014-07-30 13:06:44] <Kkat> 3Bookwright whispers, "I bet it was a megaspell."
  14. [2014-07-30 13:06:50] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream checks out her pipbuck.

  16. [2014-07-30 13:07:15] <Kkat> 3--- Session Begins ---
  17. [2014-07-30 13:08:25] * Mare-Do-Well 3ohmygoshes, "Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh!" The ghost of the battle-hardened Ministry Mare squees like a fanfilly. "Do you know where we /are/?"
  18. [2014-07-30 13:09:51] * CopyCat looks up at the airborne bat-simians. "Not-Kansas?"
  19. [2014-07-30 13:10:15] * Get_Horse "uhm... in a jungle?"
  20. [2014-07-30 13:12:02] * Golden_Dream 's ear flicks up. "What's Kansas?" She whispers.
  21. [2014-07-30 13:14:03] * Mare-Do-Well 3gives CopyCat a confused look. Then announces, "This is the temple from the first Daring Do book!"
  22. [2014-07-30 13:15:09] <Mare-Do-Well> 3https://mlpchan.net/fic/src/1354553557022.png
  23. [2014-07-30 13:15:20] <Mare-Do-Well> 3(Only post lava trap.)
  24. [2014-07-30 13:15:46] * Get_Horse "yay! i always always ALWAYS hoped to be in the temple of the first book of daring doo!" pauses for a moment "okay, let's think the unthinkable and assume i have never read the book..."
  25. [2014-07-30 13:16:46] * Bookwright looks harder. "Hey, yeah! I didn't recognize it earlier because of the lava flow, but yeah. This temple sure looks like it."
  26. [2014-07-30 13:16:54] * Golden_Dream perks up. "Oh! Sapphire Stone? Or is it Sapphire Statue?" She seemed confused for a little while.
  27. [2014-07-30 13:18:27] * Bookwright confirms, "Sapphire Statue."
  28. [2014-07-30 13:20:08] * CopyCat ponders. "Hmm... that book didn't happen to mention how to sneak past these creatures, did it?"
  29. [2014-07-30 13:21:50] * Bookwright shakes his head. "It just talked about 'sneaking'."
  30. [2014-07-30 13:22:47] * Mare-Do-Well 3shakes her head. Then zooms off. My Little Ministry Mare: Sneaking is Ghostly.
  31. [2014-07-30 13:24:06] * Golden_Dream frowned, then got low. "I reckon staying quiet and getting inside is a good place t' start."
  32. [2014-07-30 13:25:40] * Get_Horse moves slowly. obviously, having metallig shiny parts doesn't really help
  33. [2014-07-30 13:25:59] * Get_Horse "i just hope they aren't part cats"
  34. [2014-07-30 13:26:55] * Bookwright secretly hopes that they ARE part cats. Tries to sneak, but Scales' bulk makes it difficult.
  35. [2014-07-30 13:28:13] * CopyCat smiles at her friends. For them, the question of whether or not it was a good idea to explore an old lava drowned temple which also happened to be home for a flock of giant flying monkeys, was a question not worth asking.
  36. [2014-07-30 13:29:01] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side as she peers through the jungle. "If this place is somewhere that has already been looted, and seemingly destroyed, perhaps it would be better if we left it without further disturbance. It seems unlikely it is important to our current quest."
  37. [2014-07-30 13:30:11] * CopyCat blinks at Noble_Heart. A discordant note in the melody. "But it's a thing... to explore. We've got to go in."
  38. [2014-07-30 13:30:52] * Bookwright mirrors CopyCat's expression, with a faint glimmer of hope.
  39. [2014-07-30 13:31:54] * Golden_Dream looks to Noble. "Noble, these ziggy whatevers are where we last saw th' Element. If we check it out, maybe we can find where it fell." She wasn't entirely sure if she was avoiding the word because she didn't know what it meant, or because just calling it a ziggy was just a little too much fun. She chose the former, and hoped nobody would call her out on it.
  40. [2014-07-30 13:33:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3A loud screeching sound from above tells everyone that the ahool's have spotted them. Massive figures drop from the sky towards the group.
  41. [2014-07-30 13:35:10] * Bookwright starts to run unevenly towards the entrance.
  42. [2014-07-30 13:36:10] * CopyCat had initially been trying to gather large leaves to disguise herself with... but then she was distracted by some brightly coloured fruit and ends up with a large Carmare Miranda-style fruity head dress. Turns out, this doesn't make a good disguise...
  43. [2014-07-30 13:36:43] * Get_Horse tries that weird thing called running. is not very effective
  44. [2014-07-30 13:36:53] * Golden_Dream takes this very important opportunity to get something off of her mind. "FUCK!" She exclaimed, "Hoof it!" She went off like a bolt of greased lightning towards the entrance.
  45. [2014-07-30 13:41:10] * CopyCat 'Eeeps!' and becomes an alicorn-shaped blur. The fruit she had been wearing is left hanging in the air for a moment before gravity catches up with what's happening. CopyCat gallops towards the temple after her friends.
  46. [2014-07-30 13:43:21] * Get_Horse runs, gallops, trips, rolls, eats dirt, sticks and stones, gets a couple broken hooves but reaches a cover before becoming batmonkey's best toy
  47. [2014-07-30 13:46:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The group breaks into a race for the temple entrance, blurring across the land between and up the stairs. One of the ahools drops down on Bookwright, slamming him to the ground, grasping the unicorn in its taloned paws and swooping upwards again. Others pass just over the heads of the other ponies.
  48. [2014-07-30 13:47:16] * Bookwright shouts to his newly made friend: "Scales! If you wanna help me out, now is the time!"
  49. [2014-07-30 13:47:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3One tries to grab Shatara, but the griffin deftly dodges and the ahool has to pull up, barely avoiding hitting the lava-covered "head" of the temple entrance.
  50. [2014-07-30 13:52:06] * Get_Horse stops next to a cooled lavastone and yells "cover your ears!" the grabs the pickaxe and scratches on the flat surface, trying to obtain the nails on blackboard effect
  51. [2014-07-30 13:56:07] * CopyCat puts her hooves over her ears.
  52. [2014-07-30 13:57:41] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Scales slithers around Bookwright and nips at the ahool's paws.
  53. [2014-07-30 13:58:23] * Bookwright grunts and wheezes "This... hurts..."
  54. [2014-07-30 14:00:05] * Get_Horse notices bookie being turned into pony goo, lets everything else and runs to him, taking a potion from her bag
  55. [2014-07-30 14:01:01] * Bookwright "...a lot..."
  56. [2014-07-30 14:01:53] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Horse's trick is surprisingly effective, causing many of the attacking ahools to back off. Then entire group gets to the safety of the temple... except Bookwright, who is being carried higher and higher...
  57. [2014-07-30 14:02:25] * Noble_Heart never the one to let a friend get kidnapped by flying, angry ape-bats, throws up her shield and moves to pursue the one carrying Bookwright!
  58. [2014-07-30 14:02:35] * Golden_Dream pokes her head out. Shit. Shit! "Bookie! Fuck's sake, Teleport!"
  59. [2014-07-30 14:03:02] * Bookwright groans and tries to focus his magic
  60. [2014-07-30 14:03:13] * Shatara grumbles and takes off after Noble_Heart, shotgun in hand
  61. [2014-07-30 14:03:54] * Get_Horse growls, unable to reach her friend. thinks as fast as she can
  62. [2014-07-30 14:04:08] * Golden_Dream clops her hooves. "Shatara, gimme that lever gun."
  63. [2014-07-30 14:07:13] * Shatara retrieves and tosses Golden_Dream the lever rifle, still loaded with JHP
  64. [2014-07-30 14:07:22] * Bookwright releases a tiny pop of magic, and suddenly he and Scales disappear, to reappear an instant later in the mouth of the tunnel.
  65. [2014-07-30 14:08:23] * CopyCat gasps and pulls out the Hunting Revolver from its holster on Kid's back. She aims at the ahool clutching Bookwright and then... he suddenly appears beside them.
  66. [2014-07-30 14:08:29] * Get_Horse begins checking the stallion's conditions the moment he arrives "give me a moment, let me check every bone is ints place before i give you the postion...."
  67. [2014-07-30 14:08:30] * Golden_Dream starts jerking her head towards the innards of the tunnel. "Go! I'mma cover Noble!"
  68. [2014-07-30 14:09:06] * Bookwright "Hi, my name is Bookwright, please hold while I transfer your call..."
  69. [2014-07-30 14:11:26] * Get_Horse gives her friend a healing potion, after checking he's ready to drink it
  70. [2014-07-30 14:11:33] * Bookwright groans. Casts a spell on hisself. Groans less.
  71. [2014-07-30 14:13:22] * Bookwright "Ahh... that's the stuff."
  72. [2014-07-30 14:13:40] * Bookwright "Thanks Get Lost. That really helped. I'll be fine for now.
  73. [2014-07-30 14:15:06] * Get_Horse "i just hope your inside was all in its place..."
  74. [2014-07-30 14:16:03] * Bookwright "Nothing felt broken before I gave myself a dose of pain relief."
  75. [2014-07-30 14:16:23] * Noble_Heart turns back once she spots that Bookwright is away from the flying bat-thing. Taking a fight with them now seemed like a bad plan.
  76. [2014-07-30 14:18:27] * Bookwright waves limply at Noble_Heart.
  77. [2014-07-30 14:20:45] * CopyCat puts away the revolver. "Bookwright you made it!"
  78. [2014-07-30 14:20:58] * Noble_Heart lands back at the entrance and steps inside. "These creatures are very dangerous, it seems. And aggressive."
  79. [2014-07-30 14:21:29] * Bookwright "Huh? Yeah, well, I'm here aren't I? And so is Scales!" He scratches the chin of the Couatl affectionately.
  80. [2014-07-30 14:21:37] * Get_Horse slaps bookie on the plot before leaving him to the attention of the other mares "welcome back in one piece, sexy."
  81. [2014-07-30 14:21:49] * Golden_Dream starts ushering them in before bolting inside. "We ain't out of the woods yet! They can still see us! Get further inside!"
  82. [2014-07-30 14:22:04] * Get_Horse uses the moment of pause to check the new files her brainbuck received
  83. [2014-07-30 14:22:10] * Bookwright hears the sound, but doesn't feel a thing. "Hmm? Oh, right. We should do that. Get inside."
  84. [2014-07-30 14:22:22] * Get_Horse follows the others
  85. [2014-07-30 14:24:46] * Noble_Heart moves along with the others. "We are still uncertain why this place may be important. It does not seem the sort of place where Miss Doo would go willingnly."
  86. [2014-07-30 14:25:02] * Shatara passes the rest of the ammo to Golden_Dream.
  87. [2014-07-30 14:25:48] * Bookwright stretches. "Dang, dulled sensation is always weird. And I know that Noble Heart, but this is our only lead. There must have been a reason."
  88. [2014-07-30 14:26:44] * Golden_Dream hurries on inside, then finds something to sit up against and gasp for a little while. She looked at her pipbuck. Yeah, yeah, now's a good time. She opens the Daring Do log.
  89. [2014-07-30 14:28:21] * Get_Horse sits next to golden dream and checks the recording too
  90. [2014-07-30 14:29:59] * Noble_Heart frowns, nodding her head slowly. She still wasn't convinced, but right now had no real counter-argument.
  91. [2014-07-30 14:30:11] * Get_Horse patpats kid on the mane. good filly
  92. [2014-07-30 14:35:42] * Shatara flops into a corner and fiddles with his shotgun and his bayonet.
  93. [2014-07-30 14:36:30] * Bookwright "Hey Shatara, you wanna pet my snake...?"
  94. [2014-07-30 14:37:17] * Bookwright pets Scales.
  95. [2014-07-30 14:37:44] * Get_Horse hears bookie's offer. blushes.
  96. [2014-07-30 14:39:02] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Scales hisses.
  97. [2014-07-30 14:39:49] * Bookwright scritches Scales. "Who's a pretty couatl? You is! C'mon Shatara, she won't bite. Probably."
  98. [2014-07-30 14:40:48] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Scales eyes Shatara.
  99. [2014-07-30 14:41:23] * Shatara glares back.
  100. [2014-07-30 14:42:06] * Bookwright looks over at Golden_Dream. "Hey, didn't we find a recording when we got here?"
  101. [2014-07-30 14:42:56] * Golden_Dream absentmindedly states. "Don't piss off a snake, Shatara. Never ends well." She exhaled. "Yeah, Bookie. I'm workin' on it. Get Lost, 'cmere."
  102. [2014-07-30 14:43:30] * Shatara goes back to attempting to apply bayonet to shotgun. "Usually ends in a tasty meal..."
  103. [2014-07-30 14:43:32] * Get_Horse "reading it right now... well unless you invite me to pet your snake..." giggles
  104. [2014-07-30 14:44:12] * Get_Horse is sitting next to kid "uhm... i'm already here... what now?"
  105. [2014-07-30 14:44:31] * Bookwright "Anyone can pet this snake! She promises not to eat any of you. Right, Scales?"
  106. [2014-07-30 14:44:51] * Golden_Dream motions for her to get in closer. And closer still.
  107. [2014-07-30 14:45:01] * CopyCat blinks at Scales.
  108. [2014-07-30 14:46:09] * Get_Horse gets closest to kid, then kisses her on the cheek. "uhm, sorry... so, why are staying this close?"
  109. [2014-07-30 14:47:11] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Beyond the entrance, a hallway stretches back into the darkness of the temple. Brown stone walls decorated with strange images are broken by black columns bearing carvings of monkey-like figures holding basins.
  110. [2014-07-30 14:47:20] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As soon as the first pony steps deeper into the temple, soft /fshwoop/ sounds accompany fires igniting in each of the basins, casting the temple hall in flickering orange light.
  111. [2014-07-30 14:47:56] * Bookwright begins walking slowly down the corridor. "This place is so coooool. Oh my gosh, I wonder how they did that. Black thread soaked in gunpowder?"
  112. [2014-07-30 14:48:38] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost's finds she has acquired "DDA Report IV".
  113. [2014-07-30 14:49:13] * Get_Horse "magic, probably. some sort of zebra spiritual stuff..."
  114. [2014-07-30 14:49:31] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream opens the log...
  115. [2014-07-30 14:50:10] * Golden_Dream is sort of used to her being flirty like this. That doesn't mean she avoided blushing and looking away. "Y'know, th' colts here are pretty darned oblivious. Yer gonna have t' get real blunt t' get through t' Bookie's thick skull."
  116. [2014-07-30 14:50:26] * Bookwright shakes his head. "Nah, why use magic when you can use alchemy? Zebras are famous for it. It's probably some really fast burning chemical soaked into thread, and stretched through all the sconces."
  117. [2014-07-30 14:50:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3====================
  118. [2014-07-30 14:50:57] * Bookwright looks at Golden_Dream quizzically.
  119. [2014-07-30 14:51:02] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Fourth mission report.
  120. [2014-07-30 14:51:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3I hope you ponies back at HQ don’t mind that I’m keeping this informal. I’m not military, and never learned how to speak stick-up-your-ass.
  121. [2014-07-30 14:51:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Celestia, this place brings back memories. Granted, it is a little worse for wear since my last visit. Filling the central chamber with lava isn’t good for the architecture. Fortunately, being made of stone, these things are pretty amazingly durable. Jua’s golems have their work cut out for them though.
  122. [2014-07-30 14:51:28] <Mare-Do-Well> 3They’re going to have to carve their way through all the rooms filled with lava stone if they want to find what they’re looking for. And they’re still not going to find it.
  123. [2014-07-30 14:51:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Right idea, but the princess is in another castle.
  124. [2014-07-30 14:51:43] * Get_Horse whispers back to kid "well... actually, i'm trying to get shatara's attention... but he already dumped me, like, four or five times..."
  125. [2014-07-30 14:51:43] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Interesting note: there’s a whole network of tunnels under the Tenochtitlan Basin that run up to the volcanic mountains of the dragons to the southeast. Whoever created these temples were engineering marvels, and used those tunnels to create heated bathing pools, steam-powered stone elevators and the occasional lava-traps.
  126. [2014-07-30 14:51:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Also worth noting, the folk who built these places had a fetish for traps. Seriously. They’re not quite as over-the-top as in my books – artistic license – but they were still nuts.
  127. [2014-07-30 14:51:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Hope Jua has fun in there.
  128. [2014-07-30 14:52:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Granted, if they dig enough, they’re bound to wake up the Quetzalcóatl Empress. The world really doesn’t need that kind of trouble. So maybe I should do something to stop them. After I’m done laughing.
  129. [2014-07-30 14:52:11] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As for gathering intelligence, I’ve been able to confirm what the Legion is doing in the Basin. Their mission is to regain control of the Radiant Shield of Rasdon.
  130. [2014-07-30 14:52:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Senate back in Roam has apparently succumb to the insane notion that Luna is still Nightmare Moon and, my best guess, is just hiding Her true nature until She can dispose of Celestia. Because that’s not crazy.
  131. [2014-07-30 14:52:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Legate Jua believes that if zebras can take control of the sun, they can lock Equestria in daylight and somehow that will strip Luna of most of her power. Because that’s not crazy either.
  132. [2014-07-30 14:52:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Thanks to Nightmare Moon, the zebras know how devastating it is to be trapped under unending sun. They don’t seem to get just how bad unending night is, which is the situation they’ll be putting themselves in if they pull this off. This plan isn’t good for anybody; it’s apocalyptic!
  133. [2014-07-30 14:52:46] <Mare-Do-Well> 3What the hell is the point of winning the war if you wipe out everyone and everything you’re fighting for in the process?
  134. [2014-07-30 14:52:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3So yeah, I’m not planning to wait and see if they find the Amulet on their own. I’m going to do my best to stop them. If I fail, as much as it horrifies me to actually say this, I have to recommend razing the Tenochtitlan Basin.
  135. [2014-07-30 14:52:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Hopefully, you have a way to do that. Or a better idea.
  136. [2014-07-30 14:53:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Anyway, here’s the next bit of rough draft scribbling to use as your pad…
  137. [2014-07-30 14:53:19] * Golden_Dream reads, and then comments. "Shatara ain't dumped you. Shatara didn't even know y'all was dating. Again, they're fuckin' clueless. Get blunt, Get Lost."
  138. [2014-07-30 14:53:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Open Fourth Pad y/n?
  139. [2014-07-30 14:53:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3====================
  140. [2014-07-30 14:55:35] * Get_Horse presses Y
  141. [2014-07-30 14:56:09] * Get_Horse "i'm not sure... getting blunt is... hasty, and scary..."
  142. [2014-07-30 14:58:40] * CopyCat nods. "And you have to find a big stick."
  143. [2014-07-30 15:00:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Deeper down the hallway, stacks of military crates line the hall, and a turret seems to stand vigil.
  144. [2014-07-30 15:00:29] * Golden_Dream looks up and stares straight ahead, face contorted into the most deadpan expression her face can make. "'Cause dealin' with dyin' ponies and goin' on big stupid adventures ain't? You can turn a broken pony into a fixed one, you can tell an idiot that y' wanna go on a date."
  145. [2014-07-30 15:00:36] * Get_Horse "well, that's mostly the whole poin...t" turns her head to copycat "no, you couldn't really suggest that..."
  146. [2014-07-30 15:00:41] <Mare-Do-Well> 3At the press of "y", the mission text is replaced with several pages of rough draft for a the Daring Do prequel:
  147. [2014-07-30 15:00:46] <Mare-Do-Well> 3====================
  148. [2014-07-30 15:01:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3There is a certain flawed (and one would even say racist) mode of thinking that has become prevelant in recent years. Ponies have always been openly accepting of those who are different, but that has not protected us from a sense of superiority. Throughout most of our history, this sense has been individualized, but that has not always been the case.
  149. [2014-07-30 15:01:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3If we recall the stories of the three pony tribes from the Old Country, we are reminded that ponies of each race – pegasi, earth ponies and unicorns – each believed the others to be inferior. Not by birth, but by culture and morality.
  150. [2014-07-30 15:01:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Each pony has her own opinions, and even though she may rationally acknowledge that the opinions of others are equally valuable, she does not truly believe that. Her opinions are, after all, based on her own education and experience, which are necessarily correct; thus, her opinion is naturally superior to that of any who disagree.
  151. [2014-07-30 15:01:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3And if a vast majority disagree, it is not because she is wrong, but because she is exceptional.
  152. [2014-07-30 15:01:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Differences are more easily accepted when the difference is academic or aesthetic, but not when the differences are in perceptions of proper and improper. Or, worse, right and wrong.
  153. [2014-07-30 15:02:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3When presented with a culture or morality that conflicts with our own, the pony mind is often swift to judge and, by nature of homocentric morality, find anything different to be inferior and degenerate.
  154. [2014-07-30 15:02:13] <Mare-Do-Well> 3This leads some ponies to decry those who are culturally or morally different; it leads others of us to feel burdened with the responsibility of uplifting, educating or even “saving” them.
  155. [2014-07-30 15:02:28] <Mare-Do-Well> 3In the earlier decades of archeology, this flawed mode of thinking permeated much of academia.
  156. [2014-07-30 15:02:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As much as I respect the intellect and instructions of Professor Underhill, his perceptions were deeply entrenched in the idea that the modern zebra is ill-suited to appreciate and properly protect the history of the continent’s grand past...
  157. [2014-07-30 15:02:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3...and that it is the duty of the superior Equestrians to rescue the ancient artifacts of those cultures and put them in Equestrian museums where they could be properly appreciated and learned from.
  158. [2014-07-30 15:03:01] <Mare-Do-Well> 3To my shame, I too feel into such thinking in my youth, and I cannot blame it more than partially upon the Baltimare curriculum. As I sat in the hall outside the primi ordines’ chamber, my mind was scrambling to reconcile the day’s events.
  159. [2014-07-30 15:03:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Legion had put a swift end to the assassin’s attack, and not without the shedding of blood. One of the assassins had killed /herself/ rather than surrender. Life is precious and sacred, the idea of taking another’s was abhorrent. No matter how bad or desperate the situation, it is not so hopeless nor so important as to justify murder.
  160. [2014-07-30 15:03:32] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The idea of taking one’s own life was unfathomable. As a young mare, I was appalled. I clung to the hope that the assassins were sick, or at least barbaric outliers, and that the whole of zebra culture did not devalue life. But then there was the sphinx.
  161. [2014-07-30 15:03:43] <Mare-Do-Well> 3If nothing else came of the day, at least I had freed the sphinx. I couldn’t even wrap my mind around the concept of keeping another sentient creature in captivity, save in the case of imprisoning criminals. But the sphinx has not been locked in a jail, but on the docks. And she was not guarded as a prisoner, but rather kept as cargo.
  162. [2014-07-30 15:03:49] <Mare-Do-Well> 3I could not deny that my motivation for freeing her was more than just the desperation and convenience of the battle, although doing so had not only let the spirit free, but had saved the lives of my classmates as well. Something which they had, at first, shown great appreciation for.
  163. [2014-07-30 15:03:54] <Mare-Do-Well> 3That would change.
  164. [2014-07-30 15:04:00] <Mare-Do-Well> 3~-------~ oOo ~-------~
  165. [2014-07-30 15:04:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Daring Do’s mind was going to very dark places. The docks had been attacked. They had been attacked; the zebra assassins had attacked students! Not that Daring Do considered herself a child, nor the others, but she did consider them to be innocents. Keeping that in mind made the situation all that more appalling.
  166. [2014-07-30 15:04:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3And worse, it seemed that they were in trouble for it.
  167. [2014-07-30 15:05:04] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Daring Do listened to Jua and Goldentongue argue fluently in the zebra’s native tongue on the other side of the door. She and the other students sat with Professor Underhill and Packer outside the office of Jua, Bahari Soko’s primi ordines, the commander of Roam’s Legion forces in the city.
  168. [2014-07-30 15:05:11] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Dark empress’ cult with arrows of fire…” Daring Do heard through the door as the Legion’s commander slipped into a strangely sing-song Equestrian, “Whose foolishness has drawn here her ire?”
  169. [2014-07-30 15:05:19] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Arrows of fire. The assassins had meant to kill. And they have been quite successful in causing havoc and destruction.
  170. [2014-07-30 15:05:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She couldn’t even think of the mess. The assassin’s ship and the /Mzigo Msichana/ were dead in the harbor. The pier where the /Mzigo Msichana/ had docked was destroyed, the docks themselves were partially burned. Celestia only knew how much cargo had been destroyed, or how valuable it was.
  171. [2014-07-30 15:05:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3None of which, in Daring Do’s opinion, the Legion had any call to blame ponies for.
  172. [2014-07-30 15:06:04] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The shambles that Bahari Soko’s marketplace was left in, and the rest of the wreckage that they had left in the wake of their high-speed cart chase… maybe some of that could be laid at their hooves.
  173. [2014-07-30 15:06:13] <Mare-Do-Well> 3It had been her snap decision to try to lose the assassins by cutting through that thermae (a building that, at a dash, seemed like a cross between a spa and harem), although it was one of the assassin’s rickshaws that ended up in the pool.
  174. [2014-07-30 15:06:20] <Mare-Do-Well> 3And the Legion would probably blame her for the damage to that one rooftop that resulted from her ill-thought attempt to fly while carrying that much weight.
  175. [2014-07-30 15:06:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The door opened, and Goldentongue motioned first for Professor Underhill, and then to Daring Do and the other students. “The primi ordines wishes to see you now.”
  176. [2014-07-30 15:06:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Daring Do followed Professor Underhill into the stately room, decorated with suits of zebra armor, racks of weapons, and tapestries of white, red and gold. She recognized the golden Seal of Roam on the wide and ornately carved desk.
  177. [2014-07-30 15:06:50] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Rather than impressing Daring with her importance, the zebra behind it seemed to be made smaller by the grand show put on by the room.
  178. [2014-07-30 15:07:00] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jua glared at Professor Underhill and began to speak. In zebra, to Daring Do’s surprise. Jua could be thanking them or chewing them out; how would they know if they couldn’t understand her? Did she think all ponies who came to the zebra lands could speak zebra? Actually, now that she thought about it, Daring Do found this a logical assumption.
  179. [2014-07-30 15:07:07] <Mare-Do-Well> 3After all, if a zebra came to Equestria, she would expect her to speak pony. Suddenly, Daring Do felt as if she had been unintentionally rude.
  180. [2014-07-30 15:07:23] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“The primi ordines first wishes you to know that she is happy that neither you nor any of your students were seriously injured in the attack,” Goldentongue stated the moment Jua stopped talking. Daring Do quickly realized the ambassador was going to act as a translator for the zebra.
  181. [2014-07-30 15:07:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“And that she regrets that this was the first impression that you received of this normally peaceful and welcoming city.”
  182. [2014-07-30 15:07:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Professor Underhill nodded, not to Goldentongue but to Jua. The Legion zebra spoke again, and the ambassador translated.
  183. [2014-07-30 15:07:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3. “The Legion has not yet determined the goal of the attack, but they suspect that it was meant to cause terror amongst the populace, and that anyone on the dock would have been a target. It is possible that the /Mzigo Msichana/ drew their attention because it bore a government flag.”
  184. [2014-07-30 15:08:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3That made sense, Daring Do thought. It was an ambassadorial ship, after all. It certainly made more sense than a bunch of assassins wanting to take out a professor and a bunch of students.
  185. [2014-07-30 15:08:13] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Still, the primi ordines insists on assigning you a Legion escort for the rest of your stay in Bahari Soko,” Goldentongue continued, frowning at what he would have to say, “And she regrets that your stay in the city must be cut short. You and your students are to leave on the first suitable vessel departing for Mwanzo Mpya.”
  186. [2014-07-30 15:08:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“What?” Professor Underhill blurted in astonishment as the students around her gasped. Daring Do felt as if the floor had dropped out from under her.
  187. [2014-07-30 15:08:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Does this mean we have to go home?” Bluebell asked.
  188. [2014-07-30 15:08:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“This is bullshit,” Fleetwing protested with a flap of his wings.
  189. [2014-07-30 15:08:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jua spoke harshly, and Goldentongue translated, “And I am afraid you will not be permitted to…” Goldentongue paused. “…explore the Tenochtilian Basin. Your request has been denied.”
  190. [2014-07-30 15:08:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Professor Underhill’s face shifted from surprise to anger. “You can’t do that! We weren’t at fault. They attacked us!” He spun towards Goldentongue. “Tell her that they attacked my students! We have a right to defend ourselves. She shouldn’t punish me… or them… for anything that we did to survive.”
  191. [2014-07-30 15:08:53] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“She’s well aware of that,” Goldentongue said, “However, one of your students unleashed a dangerous and volatile spirit on the town…”
  192. [2014-07-30 15:08:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Damn it, if anything, it is the Legion’s fault,” Professor Underhill snapped, “If they can’t keep these whoever-they-are from attacking… if they can’t keep the criminal element under control in their cities…”
  193. [2014-07-30 15:09:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“…and it has hurt people.” Goldentongue informed them, causing hollowness in the pit of Daring Do’s stomach. “It will hurt more before it is recaptured.”
  194. [2014-07-30 15:09:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Oh Celestia! How many had the sphinx hurt? How badly?
  195. [2014-07-30 15:09:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Professor…” Bluebell whispered, trying to calm him. The looks that Jua was giving him could have burned through lead. Daring Do suspected she knew more Equestrian than she let on.
  196. [2014-07-30 15:09:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra glowered and spoke. “You should be thankful that she has not revoked your visa to her country entirely,” Goldentongue translated.
  197. [2014-07-30 15:09:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“I cannot say that I much care,” Jua said, her Equestrian taking an exotic rhyming pattern, “For ponies traipsing everywhere, blundering where they don’t belong, thinking they’re right and we are wrong.”
  198. [2014-07-30 15:09:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She stared down the professor, “You have no claim to what’s not yours. You have no purpose on our shores. And I for one will eat my shoe before the Basin’s open to you.”
  199. [2014-07-30 15:09:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Professor Underhill just stammered. Finally, he asked, “Permission to speak to you privately, primi ordines?”
  200. [2014-07-30 15:10:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3In moments, Daring Do found herself and the students back in the hall with Packer. There were voices on the other side of the door, but they were muffled, as if everyone inside was whispering just to make sure they couldn’t hear. Which made sense to Daring Do. No point in kicking the kids out if you’re going to talk loud enough for them to hear.
  201. [2014-07-30 15:10:12] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Think the professor will be able to talk her into letting us stay?” one of the other students asked. Daring Do doubted that very much.
  202. [2014-07-30 15:10:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“I… was so looking forward to this.”
  203. [2014-07-30 15:10:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3]“Yeah, and now it’s over. We didn’t even get a full day!”
  204. [2014-07-30 15:10:33] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Thanks for that sphinx, Daring,” Fleetwood said. “Because we needed that last nail in the coffin.” Bluebell glowered at the pegasus and he shut up, settling for casting accusing looks at Daring.
  205. [2014-07-30 15:10:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3A chill went through Daring Do. This was her fault. And worse, there were people injured because of what she had done. When she released the sphinx, she thought she was being so heroic. She was proud of herself for freeing the captive creature. But now…
  206. [2014-07-30 15:10:45] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Now, she needed to know what she had done. How bad it was. Not that knowing would help anyone, but...
  207. [2014-07-30 15:10:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The other students stopped talking as the door opened and both the professor and Goldentongue exited. The professor pulled Packer aside and started speaking with him while the ambassador walked away. About halfway down the hall, he broke into a trot.
  208. [2014-07-30 15:11:03] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“Tell the professor I’ll be right back,” Daring Do said to Bluebell and then galloped after the ambassador. If Goldentongue knew that people had been hurt, surely he could tell her what she needed to know. As she ran, it occurred to her that she might be able to salvage the trip for everyone else. She was the one who uncaged the spirit, after all.
  209. [2014-07-30 15:11:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Maybe if she volunteered to go back to Equestria alone, the rest of them could stay.
  210. [2014-07-30 15:11:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Goldentongue had disappeared around a corner. Daring Do raced to catch up. But when she turned the corner, there was no sign of him. She stopped, staring in all directions. Did he teleport away? Surely, she would have seen the flash. And he wasn’t far enough ahead of her to get away otherwise.
  211. [2014-07-30 15:11:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Then she heard him. Not far. He was talking to someone; she could only hear his voice, and she couldn’t make out what he was saying, but there were pauses that made her sure he was in a conversation.
  212. [2014-07-30 15:11:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She looked towards the nearest door, then moved close and pressed her ear to it, just to make sure it was the right one. She doubted that bursting in on a private conversation would endear herself to the ambassador, but she wanted to be waiting right outside when he was done. If there was another way out of the room, she didn’t want to lose him.
  213. [2014-07-30 15:11:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3“…not a complication. She will be ready for you before the moon…” Goldentongue’s voice cut off.
  214. [2014-07-30 15:11:45] <Mare-Do-Well> 3All sound cut off.
  215. [2014-07-30 15:11:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Daring Do had gone deaf. Panic burst in her breast. She stumbled back from the door.
  216. [2014-07-30 15:11:57] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The door opened. The figure staring down at her wasn’t Goldentongue; it wasn’t a pony or zebra at all – a zebra the size of Celestia, gaunt and pale with a featureless face and no stripes nor mane nor tail… and from its back writhed tendrils of shadow.
  217. [2014-07-30 15:12:03] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Daring Do remembered nothing after that.
  218. [2014-07-30 15:12:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3====================
  219. [2014-07-30 15:12:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Fourth Pad Ends
  220. [2014-07-30 15:12:54] <Mare-Do-Well> 3====================
  221. [2014-07-30 15:13:10] * Get_Horse "oh, that slender zebra again.... interesting"
  222. [2014-07-30 15:14:35] * Bookwright "Woah. That's really cool. I really wanna explore this place now!"
  223. [2014-07-30 15:14:44] * CopyCat yells at the text on Golden_Dream's pipbuck like she was watching a horror film. "Run Daring Do, run!"
  224. [2014-07-30 15:14:56] * Golden_Dream threw her hat down on the ground. No! Nonono! It felt like finding a billboard where someone asked what the lighthouse was, back before the war, with no replies. "What did you see, Daring Do?!"
  225. [2014-07-30 15:15:15] * Mare-Do-Well 3zips into view. "Hey, I found something!" She pauses, staring at CopyCat then the others. "What did I just miss?"
  226. [2014-07-30 15:16:04] * Get_Horse "some interesting adventures from daring doo... this one was really nice. very little action, but a lot of good world building"
  227. [2014-07-30 15:16:25] * Golden_Dream hyperventilates for a bit. "You didn't see the slender zebra. You didn't see it, right, RD?"
  228. [2014-07-30 15:16:30] * CopyCat grabs Golden_Dream's pipbuck-hoof and shakes it. "Don't go into the haunted house on your own! Not at night time!"
  229. [2014-07-30 15:16:49] * Bookwright looks hopefully at Mare-Do-Well. "Well, don't keep us on tenterhooks. What didja find?"
  230. [2014-07-30 15:17:12] * Mare-Do-Well 3gaps, her face falling. "I missed more Daring Do?!?" She flies up to Golden_Dream and tries to grab her (failing the way only a ghost can), "You've got to let me read it too!"
  231. [2014-07-30 15:18:49] * Golden_Dream slumps in defeat, pausing for a moment. "Sure..." She said in a low tone, starting to fiddle with it. "Hey, Rainbow Dash. You was government, right? Shouldn't y'all have gotten these logs?"
  232. [2014-07-30 15:21:56] * Noble_Heart taps her chin and frowns at the story, tilting her head to one side. "So it would seem that this spirit of the Slendermane dates far further back." She frowned. "And... That the sphinx was likely meant for it."
  233. [2014-07-30 15:23:39] * Bookwright "Are you suggesting that this thinzebra was going to /eat/ the sphinx?"
  234. [2014-07-30 15:24:19] * Noble_Heart tilted her head to one side. "We do not know. It sounds as though they were necessary on a day relevant to the moon." She frowns. "Does anypony recall what phase the moon was in when we saw this spirit of fear?"
  235. [2014-07-30 15:24:50] * Golden_Dream contemplates out loud. "It makes sense. A spirit of riddles that gets hounded down by a spirit of answers."
  236. [2014-07-30 15:25:23] * Bookwright "So what does that make Rainbow Dash? A spirit of awesomeness?"
  237. [2014-07-30 15:26:56] * Mare-Do-Well 3sighs. "We never got these logs. We never got any of this."
  238. [2014-07-30 15:28:23] * Mare-Do-Well 3blinks and puffs up, answering Bookwright with a resounding "Yes." (Well, as resounding as an etherial ghostly whisper can be.)
  239. [2014-07-30 15:28:38] * Golden_Dream exhales through her nose. "Nah, it makes her a spirit of pony. An awesome one, though." She loosens up. "Alright. When yer ready."
  240. [2014-07-30 15:29:13] * Bookwright is ready. Has been ready. Is so ready he might explode. "I'm ready. Yes. Yes I am."
  241. [2014-07-30 15:29:33] * Noble_Heart taps her chin and stands up. "A spirit of answers? We would not have connected such a creature with such an idea." She tilted her head to one side. "It is entirely possible that some unrelated event was going on to which the spirit was privvy. But that seems unlikely."
  242. [2014-07-30 15:30:57] * Bookwright "Can we at least agree that pissing it off is a stupid idea?"
  243. [2014-07-30 15:32:13] * Bookwright points down the hallway. "I'm going down there." He starts walking.
  244. [2014-07-30 15:32:38] * Golden_Dream "Pissing off anything is a stupid idea." She looks at Rainbow Dash with her hoof at the top of the document. Cramming an entire chapter of a book in a pipbuck screen means there's gonna be a lot of scrolling, which means a lot of coordination. Which she's just alright with her doing on her own.
  245. [2014-07-30 15:32:56] * Bookwright "Scales, from here on in it'll likely get dangerous. You can go if you like. You don't have to follow me, and I won't put you in harm's way if I can avoid it."
  246. [2014-07-30 15:34:51] * Mare-Do-Well 3looks thankfully at Golden_Dream and starts reading.
  247. [2014-07-30 15:35:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Scales hisses and flutters a few feathers. But doesn't leave.
  248. [2014-07-30 15:35:38] * Noble_Heart looks down the tunnels with a frown.
  249. [2014-07-30 15:35:51] * Bookwright nods. "Okay then. Onward, towards history!"
  250. [2014-07-30 15:42:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3As Bookwright moves closer, the turret jerks hesitantly to life, a little light blinking.
  251. [2014-07-30 15:42:29] * Bookwright stops moving.
  252. [2014-07-30 15:42:52] * Bookwright "Um... Anyone wanna handle this?
  253. [2014-07-30 15:50:21] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side. "We can attempt to deal with it. Though that may involve simply destroying it."
  254. [2014-07-30 15:51:12] * CopyCat bites her lip. "Oh dear. Is it like those net launchers we found before?"
  255. [2014-07-30 15:57:19] * Noble_Heart looks up at it and flaps her wings in a bit of a shrug. "We are not certain." She approaches the turret with her shield up, to see how it responds. It might not even be properly functional, after all.
  256. [2014-07-30 16:00:23] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The multiplas rifle in the turret is considerably less peaceful than the net launchers. However, the turret seems to be operating on a motion sensor with a degraded range. Once Bookwright stopped moving, it seemed to lose him... although it's alert now.
  257. [2014-07-30 16:02:01] * Golden_Dream looks up from her scrolling and ponders. "Part 'a me wants t' try t' sneak it by movin' real slow through it. Part'a me just wants t' shoot it n' be done."
  258. [2014-07-30 16:02:06] * Bookwright "Um. Uh. I don't want to get shot by that. Um. Wow."
  259. [2014-07-30 16:02:47] * Noble_Heart frowns. "We can try to take care of it." She charges her magic as lightning crackles up and down her horn a moment before motioning forwards and letting the bolt leap from the air infront of her shield.
  260. [2014-07-30 16:13:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The turret frizzles, shorts... then explodes.
  261. [2014-07-30 16:15:00] * Noble_Heart trots up past the turret to look further down the tunnel. "Perhaps someone should see about claiming what they can from the turret. Doubtless we will need weaponry for what is to come."
  262. [2014-07-30 16:15:01] * Bookwright "Can I move now?"
  263. [2014-07-30 16:15:56] * Golden_Dream stays present for a little while to watch the embers. Eventually, she just moves on to loot the crates. "Sorry, RD, gotta do somethin' real quick."
  264. [2014-07-30 16:16:28] * Golden_Dream eventually perks up. "Oh! Good work, Corolla."
  265. [2014-07-30 16:16:37] * Bookwright starts walking again. Over his shoulder he calls, "Don't be too long about it, Golden Dream! I wanna keep moving."
  266. [2014-07-30 16:16:58] * Shatara prods his bayonet at the smouldering turret, and checks over some of the crates.
  267. [2014-07-30 16:17:04] * CopyCat stands frozen in the pose she has maintained since the turret was revealed to be dangerous. Only her eyes move, looking from one thing to the next. "Is it over?"
  268. [2014-07-30 16:19:14] * Bookwright is still walking. "Yes, it's over CopyCat. C'mon, if you come with me I'll show you how to make charcoal rubbings of glyphs!"
  269. [2014-07-30 16:20:24] * CopyCat claps her hooves together. "Oh goodie!" She bounces down the corridor after Bookwright.
  270. [2014-07-30 16:20:52] * Bookwright looks for some prime Glyphs to Charcoal Rub.
  271. [2014-07-30 16:37:38] <Mare-Do-Well> 3There are six crates near the smoking remains of the turret, and not far beyond is the remains of a small "base camp", including a table holding a radio and the corroded remains of a zebra terminal (non-functional). There are a hoof-full of books, written in zebra glyphs, all ruined beyond salvage.
  272. [2014-07-30 16:38:46] * Bookwright "I wonder when this was installed. Sometime during the war, I suppose?"
  273. [2014-07-30 16:43:40] * Noble_Heart frowns. "Likely by the zebras in Daring Do's book."
  274. [2014-07-30 16:44:56] * Golden_Dream rummages through some crates. One of them is trouble. "Anypony got a prybar or a gumption t' try and pick this lock?"
  275. [2014-07-30 16:45:14] * Bookwright "I still can't get over how cool it is that the stuff in these Daring Do books /actually happened./ It's so freaking awesome."
  276. [2014-07-30 16:46:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Two of the crates are empty. One holds zebra foodstuffs which lacked the necessary over-abundance of preservatives that was the trademark of Good Pony products, and thus have been reduced to inedible sludge in skanky jars. One crate holds a supply of MFCs (53). One holds a set of plates carved with zebra glyphs, each inset with a gemstone.
  277. [2014-07-30 16:47:00] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The final crate is locked.
  278. [2014-07-30 16:48:34] * Bookwright "Oh yes! Ammo! I really need ammo.
  279. [2014-07-30 16:48:39] * Noble_Heart blinks and looks to Bookwright in some confusion. "The things in the Book of LittlePip happened as well. Is it so strange that one would wish to record the great actions of their life?"
  280. [2014-07-30 16:49:00] * Golden_Dream blinks and takes the plates. Huh. Even in the Zebra lands, tableware is always pristine. "I wouldn't really go through the trouble myself."
  281. [2014-07-30 16:49:29] * Bookwright "Yeah, but... /Book of Littlepip/ was published as an autobiography. The Daring Do books were published as adventure fiction."
  282. [2014-07-30 16:50:00] * Bookwright swipes the MFCs and adds them to his pack.
  283. [2014-07-30 16:53:04] * Golden_Dream starts pulling out the plates, and then starts to investigate the locked crate. "Anypony?"
  284. [2014-07-30 16:53:57] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side. "We could attempt to force it open. But Get Lost is the most skilled in opening locks that do not wish to open."
  285. [2014-07-30 16:54:51] * Bookwright nods
  286. [2014-07-30 17:07:03] <Mare-Do-Well> 3--- End of Session ---
