  1. WORLD WAR WII - FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: So what's different about this tournament?
  4. A: Unlike other tournaments, the rules in this tournament will be changing constantly. While the only rules to change will often be the legal characters every week, I am not against putting certain items on for some weeks (Pokemon battles including Pokeballs, etc).
  5.
  6. Q: Why only allow certain characters though?
  7. A: Look at a game like Melee. While you certainly are allowed to compete using any character, most characters aren't truly competitively viable. There are a ton of characters in Smash 4, and I think that it would be a shame to never see half of them. In World War Wii we are promoting playing having fun and still playing and practicing with characters that may not be the very best.
  8.
  9. Q: So you just hate top-tier characters then? Why don't you just ban the top-tiers outright then?
  10. A: I don't hate the top-tier characters at all. They are unique characters and awesome in Smash. They will certainly appear in World War Wii, although their appearances may be more limited than other characters due to their usefulness in other tournaments.
  11.
  12. Q: I'm a Sheik player though, am I still allowed to enter even if Sheik isn't a character
  13. A: You definitely allowed to enter, but you must only use the characters that are legal. I'm not holding people to only playing one character for their life. You can enter every week, you just can only play the legal characters for that week.
  14.
  15. Q: Well, you're picking themes, right? If you pick, say, Zelda characters only, everyone is just going to play Sheik anyways.
  16. A: I'm definitely aware of that and am going to be very mindful of current balance when picking what theme the next week will be.
  17.
  18. Q: Do I have to only play one character for the whole tournament?
  19. A: Nope. You are more than welcome to change characters, but only to those that are also allowed this week. This goes for inbetween sets, and counterpicking in matches.
  20.
  21. Q: So you are picking the characters every week? Isn't that sort of biased?
  22. A: I actually, really hope to never have to pick the characters myself. What I plan on doing is creating maybe 3-5 themes for the following week and creating a strawpoll and allowing the community to vote on what they want to be the next theme. I will then select it. I will also take input from the community in deciding what 5 to enter in the first place. I want this to be very community oriented such that this is the tournament that the community wants.
  23.
  24. Q: Will different stages be legal every week?
  25. A: I am going to try to keep the stages following the competitive ruleset for as long as possible. At the beginning I will just pick what I think is good because, well, no ruleset yet. But occiasionally we might make it only chaotic stages for fun.
  26.
  27. Q: Is there an entry fee?
  28. A: Nope. Free to enter!
  29.
  30. Q: If it's free to enter and you're giving a weekly prize of at least $50, how do you intend to make money off of this?
  31. A: I don't intend to make money off of this. I just love Smash and really hope that this tournament will bring more people to the game and make it even more enjoyable for those that already play.
  32.
  33. Q: How many players will be in this tournament every week?
  34. A: For the first week I plan on only having 32 players, simply because I have never run a tournament before and want it to run smoothly. For the following weeks I hope to increase the player cap. Week 2 I am aiming for 64, and I will move on as comfortable. This is currently a single man show so management is going to be tough. I hope to have it get to the point where pretty much anyone that wants to enter can enter without fear of the cap.
  35.
  36. Q: How do I sign up for this tournament?
  37. A: In order to sign up for this tournament, you just have to be present in the 15min before the tournament starts. I will then post a link to the bracket and, while we are limited on player cap, it will be that those who sign up first will get in first.
  38.
  39. Q: How will this tournament be run?
  40. A: Players will sign up for a bracket in Challonge, and communicate through Chatzy. You need to be a registered user of Challonge but not Chatzy. If you make it into the bracket you will organize your matches with your opponent in Chatzy.
  41.
  42. Q: What do I do after my match?
  43. A: The winner is to enter the result of the series into the Challonge bracket. Then wait for their next opponent and repeat.
  44.
  45. Q: What happens if the other person lies and enters the wrong result into the bracket?
  46. A: Contact the admin. We will review this case and if we find out this is what truly happened, we will DQ the liar as well as ban them from any future tournaments for the rest of World War Wii's lifetime.
  47.
  48. Q: How will you transfer the winnings?
  49. A: Tournament winnings will be paid primarily through either PayPal or Amazon giftcards. I plan to stick to these. I will send messages to the prize winners via Challonge so make sure to check your messages!
  50.
  51. Q: Will this tournament be at the same time every week?
  52. A: Probably not. Sometimes it may be Sunday, others it may be Saturday. I want to make it so that as many people as possible can play so I will definitely be taking community feedback as to when it will be.
  53.
  54. Q: What happens if I have to leave part-way through the tournament.
  55. A: You will be DQ'd.
  56.
  57. Q: Can I give the spot to my friend and have him play for me?
  58. A: Nope. But if you don't tell anyone and he's playing on your Wii U, it's not like I'll notice.
  59.
  60. Q: Will the tournament be streamed?
  61. A: Due to the fact that I am managing the tournament, streaming it something that I only intend to do for the Winners/Losers/Grand Finals. Anyone else is more than welcome to stream their matches though and I honestly hope that they do!
  62.
  63. Q: Can I stream my own matches? Specifically if you're streaming it at that time as well?
  64. A: Yes and please do. I want you streaming my tournament.
  65.
  66. Q: Do I need to be following your stream or anything in order to participate?
  67. A: Lolno. That's stupid. You follow it if you like it, I'm not going to hold you hostage.
  68.
  69. Q: How do I find out the current characters / next week's characters?
  70. A: Characters will be picked for the next week at the conclusion of the current week. It will be the last thing we do on stream. If you miss this then I will have a twitter where it will be listed: https://twitter.com/WorldWarWii
  71. Again, you don't have to follow it. Just there for your use to check it.
  72.
  73. Q: How long will this tournament series last?
  74. A: As long as I think it is liked and used by the community. If in the first like 5 weeks, I can't even get more than 6 people to enter, then it'll probably end shortly after that. If I'm getting tons of people who want to enter, then it will keep going indefinitely.
  75.
  76. Q: Will there ever be big events where the winners are called back to play?
  77. A: Maybe! We'll see. I'm open to any ideas!
  78.
  79. Q: You haven't picked X character in a really long time, will you please pick X character in the next lineup?
  80. A: If I really haven't picked a character in a while and haven't noticed, then just let me know and I will try my best to get them in.
  81.
  82. Q: The person that I'm playing has terrible Internet. Do I really have to play this match at 1FPS?
  83. A: You need to have decent Internet in order to play. If you are playing someone with truly awful, unplayable Internet, just let me, the admin, know and I will check their Internet. If your case holds up they will be DQ'd. If you claim someone has terrible Internet and they truly do not then you will either get a warning or be DQ'd. If there are issues such that they only have terrible Internet when playing you, it might be you. I will observe matches if the Internet issue is truly a problem.
  84.
  85. Q: Do I have to sit at my computer waiting for the next match all day?
  86. A: I believe that Challonge (The bracket system thing) may be able to notify you when your next match is ready through email. Hopefully you will be constantly be in matches regardless. I understand not wanting to wait but I can't be texting or messaging all of the people in the tournament when they have a new opponent.
  87.
  88. Q: How late do I have to be for a match to be DQ'd?
  89. A: When the tournament starts, if your match with your opponent has not started in 15min you will be DQ'd. After this, if your opponent claims that they are unable to find you, and I am as well, then you will be DQ'd after about 5min. If you are having issues and can relay that to us, we will wait.
  90.
  91. Q: What happens if someone disconnects during the match?
  92. A: If no stocks have been taken and the percent differential is not extreme then the match will be replayed. If stocks have been taken then the disconnecting player loses. Please just try to be fair and good people when using this rule. We're here to play Smash, not force dumb wins.
  93.
  94. Q: What do I do if my opponent is using an illegal character or if the rules are incorrect?
  95. A: Self-destruct the second that you realize any discrepancy in the rules. If you do not do this, it will be assumed that you are OK with the difference in rules and wish to continue the match. If you say after a match "Yeah but items were on so that match doesn't really count, we have to replay it even though you won" that's too bad because you agreed to play under the rules of the match.
  96. After you or your opponent self-destruct, turn to the chat and communicate with the other play and figure out what was wrong. If it was an error and nothing was wrong, no big deal just start the match again. Contact the admins with any issues.
  97.
  98. Q: I don't want to play the legal characters. Can't I just play my character?
  99. A: Sorry but this is how I am organizing my tournament. If you don't want to play by the rules, you don't have to enter.
