  2. [12:59:50 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo enters the library, dropping off a couple books on her way in. She walks through the quiet room to the fiction section, where she scans her selection and begins to deliberate.
  3. [1:15:44 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino has just chosen her literary entertainment from the shelves and turns to go to one of the tables by the windows
  4. [1:18:52 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo sees the girl next to her take a book down from the shelves; thinking she recognizes the cover, she asks,
  5. [1:19:04 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Hey, wait, what's that book you just got?
  6. [1:21:40 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino stops and turns, flashing the cover to the other girl
  7. [1:28:43 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> [[The book bears the title "An Effort at Self-Determination," with a rather abstract illustration of a human figure on some sort of precipice surrounded by turbulent figures.]]

  12. [1:34:02 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Pfffffft, I guess. If you could actually understand what he was trying to say, you might not be able to pretend it's supposed to mean something.

  14. [1:39:09 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino returns to her route to the windows
  15. [1:40:50 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo pulls down a book a moment later, making her own way to the tables and taking a seat near Yoshino to ensure that her selection is worth checking out.
  16. [1:45:29 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino narrows her brow a bit at being followed, but looks to see what the other girl's brought over
  17. [1:48:37 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo is reading a thick book entitled "Rooks and Bishops." The cover indicates that it's the first in the series; there is an illustration of two men taking dramatic, defiant postures standing across from each other, wearing clothes probably meant to seem strange and fantastical.

  19. [1:50:57 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> What's that?
  20. [1:51:03 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Hm?
  21. [1:51:16 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo 's head flits up switfly from the page it was looking at.
  22. [1:51:36 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Oh, it's supposed to be a big fantasy series with a lot of politics and intrigue.
  23. [1:52:12 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Don't know if it's any good yet, but I'd heard the name and figured I'd give it a shot.
  24. [1:53:33 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Hmm, don't get caught up in the hype if it turns out to be bad.
  25. [1:53:41 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Don't worry, I won't.
  26. [1:57:20 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino grunts and flips to a certain page in her own book, looking out the window onto the track as she does
  27. [1:59:34 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo sees her look away, and looks back down at the book she's considering.
  28. [2:01:56 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Hn, not there today.
  29. [2:02:07 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino turns her gaze to her book
  30. [2:02:23 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> What isn't?
  31. [2:05:24 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> A girl I follow.
  32. [2:05:44 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> "Follow?" What's that supposed to mean?
  33. [2:08:49 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> You know, follow, learn from, do things with.
  34. [2:09:36 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Oh, okay. Not just follow down the street to the store.
  35. [2:11:42 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino squints her eyes at the other girl incredulously
  36. [2:13:04 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Is that something you do?
  37. [2:13:46 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> No, I don't follow anyone to the store or anything. It was just an example.
  38. [2:14:11 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Has it happened to you?
  39. [2:14:44 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Um... I don't think so, no. I've never noticed, at least.
  40. [2:18:05 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> You ever look behind you when you walk?
  41. [2:18:19 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> You should, don't get jumped.
  42. [2:19:21 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Who would jump me?
  43. [2:20:57 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino shrugs
  44. [2:21:03 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Iunno, why do bad people do bad things?
  45. [2:22:04 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Not for any reason they'd come after me.
  46. [2:23:26 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Seems kinda naive, but if it's true then count yourself lucky.
  47. [2:23:45 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> What, have you gotten jumped before?
  48. [2:25:01 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> N-no! I watch my back; but I've known one or two.
  49. [2:27:42 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo sighs. She goes quiet for a good few seconds. She quietly says,
  50. [2:28:01 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> I hope things turned out okay for them.
  51. [2:29:50 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Nnn, it was petty stuff, but they should have been aware.
  52. [2:30:49 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo is suddenly angry.
  53. [2:30:51 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> It's not like it was their fault!
  54. [2:32:48 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino shuts her book and flattens it on the table
  55. [2:33:06 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> And they could have done more for themselves!
  56. [2:34:37 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Yeah... I know.
  57. [2:34:48 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo rubs her shoulder.
  58. [2:34:57 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> But it still shouldn't have happened.
  59. [2:36:36 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Of c-well dumbasses sure don't help themselves.
  60. [2:37:14 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo rubs her shoulder a little harder.
  61. [2:37:29 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Sometimes, they at least try.
  62. [2:40:54 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Well... if what they tried didn't change anything, I guess it doesn't really matter.

  65. [2:45:20 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino looks uncertainly at the other girl for a momentary pause
  66. [2:45:56 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> ... good, try until you succeed so it actually means something.
  67. [2:46:37 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino nods, as much to herself as to anyone else, before looking for her page again

  69. [2:53:03 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> If you picked it, it's gotta mean something to you at least, otherwise why pick it?
  70. [2:54:44 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Oh, I mean, yeah, I know what I'm doing now, it's just that sometimes you try to help and it turns out you didn't need to.

  73. [2:57:55 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> But like, that's the thing, right? You can do what you wanted to, but it doesn't do what you were trying to do, so you didn't really do what you wanted to, you know?
  74. [3:02:16 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> If I wanted to buy ice cream to cheer up a friend, but the flavour I chose was one they disliked, I still succeeded in having bought the ice cream for the friend. How they react is out of my hands. I did all I was responsible for.

  76. [3:03:23 AM CST] * [Multi]_Rakuo follows her gaze.

  87. [3:15:54 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Well, I picked up a lot of it from her, yeah. I mean, I had those ideas before, but she just cleaned them up.
  88. [3:18:40 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Yeah. So she's a girl after your own heart. Or maybe you're after hers, I dunno.

  91. [3:25:58 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Oh no, we mostly never sit down when we're together. We're always doing some kind of activity.

  93. [3:29:40 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Some kind of sport, mostly.
  94. [3:30:14 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> What sport does she play but not join the team for?
  95. [3:30:43 AM CST] * [Cy]_Yoshino frowns a bit
  96. [3:31:18 AM CST] <[Cy]_Yoshino> Running and stuff is a sport too isn't it? She does a bunch of regular sports too, but she just doesn't sign up for teams or clubs.
  97. [3:32:17 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> Yeah, track is a sport. But if she was really into it, I don't get why she wouldn't join the club. It's not even a team sport.
  98. [3:32:29 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> As long as you don't run the relay.

  105. [3:46:26 AM CST] <[Multi]_Rakuo> I mean, the writing doesn't suck, and people like it, and it's thick, so there's plenty of time to give up on it if it doesn't turn out to be worth it.
