- Welcome, potential GSoC participant!
- SuperTux is an open-source jump'n'run game. It was originally created by a guy called Bill Kendrick, who saw the need for an alternative to the proprietary Super Mario. It's all about Tux, a penguin (and the Linux mascot by the way), whose beloved girlfriend Penny was captured by evil Nolok while they were just having a nice picnic out on the ice fields. Of course, Tux will do everything he can to rescue her, and so the story begins...
- Since the dawn of SuperTux in 2000, project development has undergone various stages of activity. Since the year 2011, however, development has picked up with a new team and is now stronger than ever with many features added in the recent years (for example, a new level editor) and many more to come. And that's where you come in!
- Here are a few potential projects we came up with:
- **Multi player**
- SuperTux has traditionally been a single-player game. However, since we know that playing games together is much more fun, we're looking for a way to allow more than one player to play the game. Initially, both players should play on the same computer (split-screen interface), but networked multi-player could also be possible.
- ** OpenGL ES Support **
- SuperTux is available for a wide-range of computers. However, we're still lacking support for low-powered devices such as mobile phones. That's why we're looking for students who are knowledgeable in OpenGL ES to help us with that.
- ** Add-on Homepage **
- SuperTux comes with a variety of add-ons (levels and worldmaps contributed by other people). However, managing contributions is currently very painful. We're looking for a skilled student who can help us with that and develop a web interface for managing the add-ons used in the game.
