  1. Hi Allan and Kris.
  2.
  3. A few weeks ago (not sure if it was on Techsnap or BSD Now) Allan made a comment about bootloaders along the lines of "A computer needs an operating system to do anything, but it needs to load the operating system from disk" and likened it to a man in a hole lifting himself out by his bootstraps.
  4.
  5. This has made me curious about how a bootloader works. Once the bootloader is loaded up, how does Grub/bsd loader etc load the kernel off the disk?
  6.
  7. And even more perplexing is how it works with ZFS where the kernel could be in 10 different pieces across the disk
  8.
  9.

  11. Sincerely,
  12. Andrew
