  1. ---------------------------------------------
  2.
  3. r = Ruby, a dragon girl
  4.
  5. p = Player, the main character
  6.
  7. ---------------------------------------------
  8.
  9. r "Arghh! Who cares if some snot-nosed kid like you hasn't heard of me?! You're about to die anyway!"
  10.
  11. "...! Here she comes again... I steel myself and focus. Hopefully I can--"
  12.
  13. p "N-nghh!"
  14.
  15. "She lunges past me in a flash. I'm able to parry one claw like before, but I'm too slow on the other, a sudden pain searing its way into my shoulder as she catches me on the side."
  16.
  17. "Damn it! Did she get faster, or is my concentration slipping?!"
  18.
  19. "Gritting my teeth to bare through the pain, I spin to meet her as she comes to a skidding halt."
  20.
  21. r "Ahaha... Maybe I was wrong about you."
  22.
  23. "She eyes the blood--my blood--on her claw, licking it off with a forked tongue before shooting me a malicious grin."
  24.
  25. r "I hope that isn't all you're capable of, kid, or I'm gonna be {i}really{/i} disappointed that I got my hopes up."
  26.
  27. "She closes in again, claws whirling. This is going to be tough--"
  28.
  29. "She rains a barrage of swipes down on me, of which I'm just barely able to protect against as I throw my shield up."
  30.
  31. "Her thick claws clatter against my shield so hard I can feel my bones rattle, sure that she's going to break through at any moment."
  32.
  33. "Thankfully, though, my shield somehow holds out."
  34.
  35. r "Hi-yahh!"
  36.
  37. "She sees it fit to end her clawed combo with a hefty kick. I'm able to block that, too, but the impact is overwhelming, sending me skidding backwards across the grass as I desperately try to keep myself upright."
  38.
  39. p "K-kuhh..."
  40.
  41. "My entire body surges with pain. I feel like I'm about to vomit. But I can't give up."
  42.
  43. "For the first time in my life, I'm standing up against something. I'm not going to bow down and submit!"
  44.
  45. "Pulling my shield arm back down, I'm met with silence."
  46.
  47. "...Where did she go?"
  48.
  49. "She was right there a moment ago--"
  50.
  51. r "Think fast!"
  52.
  53. "A blurred figure zooms in from the side, their claws giving off a deadly glint, a manic grin on her face."
  54.
  55. p "Gah..."
  56.
  57. "I block her attack--just barely--but she disappears again, just as suddenly as she had appeared."
  58.
  59. r "Ahaha!"
  60.
  61. r "Over here!"
  62.
  63. r "Or am I over here?"
  64.
  65. r "Hragh!"
  66.
  67. "She weaves in and out as fast as the wind, some of her attacks grazing me, others I'm just barely able to keep from shredding me to pieces."
  68.
  69. "I can't even get an attack in. This is bad..."
  70.
  71. r "What's wrong, kid? Can't keep up?"
  72.
  73. p "Rargh!"
  74.
  75. "She cackles in my ear before back-flipping away, nimbly avoiding my aggravated swipe."
  76.
  77. "I can't just stand here and let her mess around with me like this. I need to stay on the offensive and stop her from completely dominating this battle."
  78.
  79. "Ignoring the warm, sickly feeling of the blood tricking down from my wounds, I tighten my grip on my sword and lunge out."
  80.
  81. "I'm losing my composure. I need to calm down and focus, just like I did when I first blocked her attacks."
  82.
  83. "I have to ignore the pain. Block it out of my mind. It means nothing. So long as I can still wield my sword, the fight isn't over!"
  84.
  85. "Block out all the distractions. Block out her taunts. Focus on nothing but defeating her."
  86.
  87. r "Ya finally comin' for me, huh? I was wonderin' how long you were gonna cower behind that fancy shield of yours."
  88.
  89. r "C'mon, then! First hit's free! Do your worst, kid!"
  90.
  91. "...She's throwing her arms open wide as I close the distance between us, her pointed grin wide as ever. Is she being serious?"
  92.
  93. "I can't tell if this is a trick, or if she's really this insane..."
  94.
  95. "Either way, I can't pass up this chance to finally get in an attack of my own, beyond a desperate parry."
  96.
  97. "I can't afford to show any mercy in a fight where the stakes are as high as this. She's made it clear she wants to kill me. So for that reason, I lunge out with a precise thrust, intended to pierce right through her stomach."
  98.
  99. "If I get it right, I should be able to skewer her vitals--"
  100.
  101. p "...?!"
  102.
  103. "What just...?"
  104.
  105. "I thrust as hard as I can, and my blade clearly comes into contact with her..."
  106.
  107. "But rather than pierce through, my blade simply shatters, her stomach unscathed."
  108.
  109. "I'm left staring in disbelief at my sword, but one lonely shard of metal remaining atop the hilt."
  110.
  111. "...How...?"
  112.
  113. r "Haha... Ahahaha! Oh, wow. {i}Wow{/i}. What kinda cheap crap are you tryin' to fight me with, kid?!"
  114.
  115. p "G-guh..."
  116.
  117. "I freeze up completely. She's looming right over me, her hands on her hips and sporting a triumphant grin."
  118.
  119. r "What was it made out of? Candy?"
  120.
  121. p "H-hey!"
  122.
  123. "She snatches what little remains of my blade out of my bloodied hand. I try to protest and grab the sword back, but she keeps me in place with her free claw, pressing down so hard onto my head I feel like my skull might give way."
  124.
  125. "She sniffs the shattered sword for a second, before..."
  126.
  127. "She eats it."
  128.
  129. "She places the entire thing in her mouth, hilt and all, and begins gnashing it into dust with her razor sharp teeth."
  130.
  131. p "Wh-what are you doing?! I paid good money for that!"
  132.
  133. "The blade long since gone, I still try my best to jump up and reach her, but it's no use, she's got a vice-like lock on me with those claws of hers."
  134.
  135. r "Bleh. This isn't even real steel. No wonder."
  136.
  137. "...The blacksmith told me it was... I spent {i}months{/i} saving up for that sword!"
