  12. Attention Omaha, We are Anonymous,
  13. As you may or may not know, currently the Omaha Police Department is
  14. undergoing change. This change was envitable. It was incited by many
  15. accounts of police brutality and violation of civil and human rights and
  16. the people are taking action. How far this change goes and what type of
  17. change it will be is going to be up to you. We here, at AnonOpsOmaha,
  18. agree the change needs to be vast. The change needs to over shadow the
  19. current system in place, in a way that it forever changes the trajectory
  20. for future generations. In our previous video, we successfully released
  21. 1.7 GB of data that used to belong to the Omaha Police Department, but
  22. most importantly we were heard. The people of Omaha agreed with us that
  23. what took place was wrong and as a whole we will not tolerate it. They
  24. agreed Omaha would no longer have to be afraid of its police department.
  25. They agreed with our actions and many of you have pitched in to help.
  26. For that we thank you.
  27. What is happening is a replacement of order. A rennovation, if
  28. you will, of the way things are and what they should be. This is a
  29. revolution. At the end of everything, we want all of you to be able to
  30. say... "we stopped police brutality, and ended corruption."
  31. Three years ago, Omaha mayor Jim Suttle ended the position of
  32. police auditor. By ending this position he put you in danger. What it
  33. did was take the responsibility of a woman whos purpose it was to
  34. protect you, onto a man who has stated he is responsible for the actions
  35. of the entire department. This is a conflict of interest. On March 23,
  36. 2013 the Youtube channel OmahaPoliceDept posted a video titled "I Will
  37. Get To The Bottom Of Excessive Force Allegation" in which the Omaha
  38. police chief, Todd Schmaderer, stated that he is responsible for the
  39. actions of his officers. He also asked for time in completing a swift
  40. investigation. after stating this contradiction he concluded saying he
  41. will not answer any questions. Leaving many people with questions of
  42. where this will go. We are still here making sure it won't go anywhere.
  43. Already Omaha has seen many cases of the Omaha Police Department
  44. using excessive force. This is a widespread problem not centralized here
  45. alone, but globally. The idea that we can beat it seems unachievable at
  46. first but if you step back and look at the differences between the Omaha
  47. community and others you can see how carefully organized events could
  48. create major changes here and set an example to the rest of the world.
  49. It is an example that needs to be made one that one day will.
  50. For now we have accounts of incidents. We have issues within our
  51. law enforcement that have been brought to public attention, but until
  52. now have not yet changed the source of the problem. Which brings us to
  53. the question, "what is the source?" Since 2006 Omaha has been without
  54. independent oversight of its Police Department in the form of a police
  55. auditor. The auditor’s job was to investigate citizen complaints of
  56. improper behavior from officers. Since the elimination of the auditor
  57. position, the people of Omaha have been at the mercy of OPD’s Internal
  58. Affairs investigators to effectively police their own. This approach
  59. makes for biased investigations. Police investigating the police is no
  60. different than letting bankers decide the rules on bank regulation; the
  61. fox running the hen house.
  62. Officers are not above the law and when they engage in criminal
  63. behavior they should be held accountable for their crimes. The Mayor and
  64. City Council have been publicly aware of videos of excessive force since
  65. 2011. A video of 12 officers tasing and kicking a man while attempting
  66. to take him into custody outside Creighton Medical Center was released
  67. to the public. The latest video of excessive force and brutality
  68. captures much of what is wrong with OPD, but sadly, is no secret to many
  69. people in Omaha. No citizen in Omaha should be silent on this matter,
  70. especially those in office with the power to act to create oversight in
  71. the public’s interest. Abusive and unprofessional police have no place
  72. on our streets, and non-responsive public servants have no place in city
  73. hall. It’s time to get tough on OPD, City Hall, and the County
  74. Prosecutor’s office. Stop brutality, enact oversight!
  75. As our elected officials have not appropriately handled this
  76. matter, we are calling on all people of Omaha to join us in solidarity
  77. and to be a witness to change. We, the people of Omaha, must start to be
  78. proactive in the face of violence, not reactive in the wake of violence.
  79. We will demand all incumbents and candidates for the mayor and city
  80. council seats resolve to reinstate public oversight; with an agreement
  81. reached by May 21st, one week after the general election.
  82. We are also calling upon all people of Omaha to remain vigilant
  83. against the Police Department. Take pictures, take videos, take notes if
  84. you have to; look out for one another. As we saw last week, a watchful
  85. citizen is a valuable tool against excessive force and could mean the
  86. difference between life and death; justice and travesty. To show your
  87. support we are asking anyone who is able to call-in to work and school
  88. and join your fellow citizens in solidarity in support of oversight of
  89. OPD and justice for victims of police abuse. ONLY TOGETHER, will we make
  90. oversight and OpReturnJustice a reality.
  91. We here at AnonOpsOmaha encourage you to band together. What we
  92. suggest is a Physical Distributed Denial Of Service Attack or a P.D.O.S.
  93. What this is, is the physical version of a D.D.O.S. In a D.D.O.S. the
  94. purpose is to fill a website up with fake packets of data. So many that
  95. the website can no longer handle the amount of traffic and ultimately
  96. crashes making the website unavailible. In a Physical Denial Of Service
  97. Attack you have the same concept. The more people are involved the more
  98. effective this will be.
