  1. [23:06:43] <Camellia> It's around February 23rd, somewhere on the Altho regional train network. Not many people are headed out to remote villages this time of year, so Reinhard and Camellia have managed to secure a car mostly to themselves. A few passengers snooze or read magazines at the opposite end, but it has been a peaceful and quiet past few hours.
  2. [23:10:05] * Reinhard is stretched out, pokemon doing likewise, though Siegfried concernedly hovers back and forth as always.
  3. [23:10:06] : Camellia herself is just waking from a nap of her own, turning to peer out the window. "It looks like just anywhere during an Altho winter out there. I can't even tell if we're getting closer."
  4. [23:10:26] <Reinhard> "Well, all we need to do is be awake for the announcements.
  5. [23:11:01] <Camellia> Chamomile floats in her lanturn cage, eyes following Siegfried with a dull, bored gaze.
  6. [23:12:40] : Camellia nods and stretches. "It's funny. I've always been used to traveling alone on these trains, having to worry about staying awake myself the whole time."
  7. [23:13:17] <Reinhard> "No more of that, I suppose! By the time we can actually see where we are, we'll be flying everywhere anyway."
  8. [23:13:38] <Camellia> "...Speaking of which, will Kurt be okay traveling alone? I gathered that, well, your other brother is a bit...distant. And it didn't seem like he had any other traveling companions."
  9. [23:15:06] <Reinhard> "He DID go off with that OTHER person, hrm, what was his name... he was there for the, er, event during that last big train ride, so he was trustworthy."
  10. [23:15:26] <Reinhard> "However, NEITHER of them have sent any word out. Maybe I should check."
  11. [23:16:14] <Camellia> "That...is worrying. And you know how the Wanderers are. Even when you were traveling with him, it wasn't always that you'd receive the same calls, right?"
  12. [23:17:02] <Reinhard> "Right, right. Usually one of us would stay in the hotel or go off to do what have you, perhaps occasionally make sure to be in the proper area if things turned bad."
  13. [23:18:47] <Camellia> "But why? It's such an odd way of operating, and especially with family members."
  14. [23:19:12] <Reinhard> "To be honest, quite often he seemed GLAD to have me off his back."
  15. [23:20:10] <Reinhard> "So I let him have his time and he let me worry--though I hardly worry as much as others, we had quite a lot of land to go around in and enough time for ourselves that he is very self-sufficient by now."
  16. [23:20:11] : Camellia smirks. "I guess he is still a teenager."
  17. [23:20:29] <Reinhard> "He is... and that's why I still worry."
  18. [23:21:59] <Reinhard> "I imagine your brother felt the same, though, no? Considering your TRAINING--unless, of course, he is not too much older."
  19. [23:22:32] <Camellia> "Of course, of course." Camellia reaches up with a sleeve to wipe the condensation from the window as she looks outside again. "And for any teenager the prospect of exploring the region with free reign must be amazi- oh, uh, we're twins. So it was...actually much harder for us when I had to leave."
  20. [23:23:03] <Camellia> "Neither of us really accepted it for a while, and that almost had dire consequences for the two of us."
  21. [23:23:24] * Reinhard goes a little quieter and frowns. "That's... hm."
  22. [23:23:41] * Reinhard shakes his head and brightens up again. "Well, clearly it just means he has to visit!"
  23. [23:24:48] : Camellia sees this and puts a reassuring hand on Reinhard's shoulder. "We've had many long years to grow accustomed to correspondence by email or phone. It's how I keep in touch with most people I know, and...well, it's not as if all his friends stayed in the village as well. He isn't very keen on leaving himself though, even for short trips."
  24. [23:25:01] <Camellia> "I worry he'll be the last of his friends left in town someday."
  25. [23:25:22] <Reinhard> "That's just more reason, I suppose! Unless you wanted to go back."
  26. [23:26:23] : Camellia nods. "Sometime, I did want to go back. I just haven't found the right time. What about you? It's been two months since we've met, and the whole time I've never seen your other brother. I don't even remember his name, if you've ever brought him up."
  27. [23:26:41] <Reinhard> "Diedrich... well, I've told you everything else."
  28. [23:27:32] <Camellia> "Sorry, I don't mean to pry. It just feels...unfortunate. He's a Wanderer too, right? I imagine when you three took the job, you did it together at first."
  29. [23:27:37] <Reinhard> "He's the reason I left, actually. He never took WELL to the harshness of our mother, and not too long ago I suppose he simply hit the breaking point and left of his own accord. By then, it was about time for me to go out and train myself anyway, so we expedited the process."
  30. [23:29:31] <Camellia> "I'm sure he'll turn around in time. Or we'll run into him during our travels."
  31. [23:29:40] <Reinhard> "Of course!"
  32. [23:32:29] <Reinhard> "Early on, though, I went with every single call with the EXPECTATION that he would be there."
  33. [23:32:39] <Camellia> "So..." Camellia sighs. "The Wanderers hardly care to keep siblings together on calls, even when it's clear they know they're traveling together through...well, whatever method they use to track us."
  34. [23:32:53] <Reinhard> "No, not at all it seems."
  35. [23:33:02] <Reinhard> "Maybe they simply choose who in the end is the most suitable."
  36. [23:33:33] <Camellia> "I went through a period of the same at first. Traveled with some Wanderers and figured we'd get calls together. It was clear within a month that that just wouldn't be the case, and we drifted apart again."
  37. [23:33:45] <Reinhard> "Mhm..."
  38. [23:33:55] <Reinhard> "...what about us, then?"
  39. [23:34:32] <Camellia> "...What indeed." Camellia frowns. "We've gotten many calls together already. Maybe they figure we complement each others' skills, but...we've had our own calls too."
  40. [23:34:41] <Reinhard> "Though, ah, I am sure you hardly meant it in that way... yes, that."
  41. [23:34:59] <Reinhard> "We have reasons to stick together beyond calls, of course, and reasons to not leave without the other."
  42. [23:35:24] <Reinhard> "...but if you would allow, I do still feel like it should be proper for me to at least make an effort to be in the area if you're called in."
  43. [23:35:51] <Reinhard> "And ha, of course, if you build that shop one of us has to watch it if both of us aren't brought in."
  44. [23:36:07] : Camellia nods. "Have you ever gone along on a call you didn't receive? Maybe accompanied Kurt one day? I do wonder how they pick...and whether it's for our own good somehow that we aren't sometimes called."
  45. [23:37:03] <Camellia> "Well, that's a whole other can of wurmples." Camellia laughs. "I'm not even sure how I'd keep a shop open while taking calls. Imagine getting one while a customer was browsing the wares."
  46. [23:37:14] <Reinhard> "Mostly when Kurt was called and I was worried, I would... no, not shadow him, but more like... keep in the area where he's told to go."
  47. [23:37:38] <Reinhard> "Ah, but that's why there are the two of us! You'd have to teach me more, of course, but if that happened I could just be there."
  48. [23:37:40] <Camellia> "And did you ever need to intervene?"
  49. [23:37:53] <Reinhard> "Hrm... not that I can remember."
  50. [23:38:22] <Reinhard> "And I do hope I don't with you."
  51. [23:39:20] <Camellia> "Ah, there's a lot I need to learn as well." Camellia pats a thick tome on her lap. It appears to be a book written in some sort of pictographic script. Whatever the closest equivalent of Chinese is in the setting. The only indication of its subject matter that's clear to Reinhard is a drawing of a tea cup on the cover.
  52. [23:39:32] <Reinhard> "My word."
  53. [23:39:43] <Camellia> "I'm sure I'll be fine. Somehow, things always work themselves out, even with how...risky my abilities are to use."
  54. [23:39:59] <Reinhard> "Somehow, yes."
  55. [23:40:18] <Reinhard> "It'll probably never stop being tense until either of us comes back, though."
  56. [23:40:20] <Camellia> "I...suppose that just speaks to how well the Wanderers pick their calls."
  57. [23:40:50] <Camellia> "Probably not no. And you know I like to worry so..."
  58. [23:41:21] <Reinhard> "There's something we can both learn, then, not to worry as much."
  59. [23:42:17] <Camellia> "...Poor Ryuu. That is the first I've heard in a long time of a Wanderer losing a pokemon o- well, even so, it's just recent events make me worry the organization is overburdened. Why else call on the same group so many times so quickly?"
  60. [23:43:17] <Reinhard> "Maybe there simply is an element of LUCK. Or perhaps bureaucracy."
  61. [23:44:17] * KujiUn (Kotodes@93D3A8D3.60ECF9E2.E096B1A4.IP) Quit (Connection reset by peer)
  62. [23:45:08] <Camellia> "Neither makes me comfortable, but...you're right, it's unhealthy to worry so much. We've both been in the business for a while, and we've only gotten better at what we do."
  63. [23:46:22] * KujiUn (Kotodes@93D3A8D3.60ECF9E2.E096B1A4.IP) has joined #althoregion
  64. [23:46:40] <Reinhard> "There's the key, see the upside to it. We only get better from all this."
  65. [23:47:50] <Reinhard> "In fact, that's where we start! See the positive side in everything worrying that happens."
  66. [23:47:55] : Camellia shuffles her bag around to the other side, making room to cuddle up next to Reinhard. "So, that's all we really can do. Trust the Wanderers to arrange the calls well, and trust each other to make it out okay."
  67. [23:48:57] * Reinhard squeezes her. "It's more to do than you think, though... Look at this way: We got so many calls in the city, and are now going out here. Maybe we'll find something relevant or important to what we're looking into out this way."
  68. [23:49:02] * YellowYoshi (YellowYosh@D772CF0F.24B43D83.7C39E4C4.IP) Quit (Ping timeout)
  69. [23:49:15] <Reinhard> "So in that sense, if we hadn't gotten as many calls and stayed in the city, we wouldn't go out here..."
  70. [23:50:28] : Camellia smiles and closes her eyes. "You're right, circumstance did smile on us in that way."
  71. [23:52:41] <Reinhard> "Let's see, what else..."
  72. [23:52:48] <Reinhard> "Ah!"
  73. [23:53:34] <Camellia> "Huh?"
  74. [23:54:03] * YellowYoshi (YellowYosh@D772CF0F.24B43D83.7C39E4C4.IP) has joined #althoregion
  75. [23:54:25] * Reinhard takes up her hand, the injured one. "This... You keep being careful with it when we're together like this, but given time to think about it... I think it's beautiful. You're only hurt like that in order to save others, in order to better yourself. In that sense, it isn't something to be ashamed of, but to take as a mark of pride. Or at least something I admire you for."
  76. [23:58:13] <Camellia> "I...um, thank you. I wish everyone could see it like that, though, to be honest I had never thought of it in such a way myself." She traces a line along a scar with her other hand. "It was just how I kept myself fed. And a source of constant worry for my Wanderer companions on calls." She laughs a bit at the end.
  77. Session Time: Thu Feb 16 00:00:00 2012
  78. [00:01:15] <Reinhard> "Well, that's why we start working to not think like that. Or at least mostly, I hardly imagine I could just stop being concerned completely."
  79. [00:02:34] * Ramiel (chatzilla@sux-A23F54CF.lightspeed.wchtks.sbcglobal.net) Quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.88 [Firefox 9.0.1/20111220165912])
  80. [00:03:19] <Camellia> "Don't worry; I'm aware I'm walking a fine line every time I use my abilities. But it's a line I'm used to walking. Someone else looking at you may worry that you're raising fierce dragons and could get yourself hurt, but I also know you're used to walking that path yourself. And so everything will be okay."
  81. [00:06:00] <Reinhard> "That's probably the best way to put it, we stay on opposite sides of something here just so one can pull the other back... yes, excellent way to put it--wait. Have we stopped?"
  82. [00:07:08] <Camellia> "Er..." Camellia quickly sits up and yanks out a crumpled sheet of paper from her pocket. "...Yeah, this is our stop!"
  83. [00:07:22] <Reinhard> "Perfect timing! See, we're doing right by this."
  84. [00:08:20] <Camellia> "Walking that thin line." Camellia grins ear to ear as she stands up and gathers her things.
  85. [00:09:42] * Reinhard jumps right up and gets everyone packed back in, getting ready to walk out with her.
