  2. -----[Khandhas: October 15, 2009]-----
  3. ~Antioch|GM
  4. It's tough to multitask on the computer with your small squad of clones, with only one mouse and monitor, but it nevertheless takes you little time to acquire as much information as possible on the Borgata and 14K - at least, all that the internet has to offer.
  5. Your apartment is pristine, one idle clone tidying away the remnants of packing, and you briefly re-coalesce into your original form to get a bite of food once it's done cooking.
  6. ~Antioch|GM
  7. You're able to find a lot of data on the Borgata - big enough to make it in New York, they're bound to have solid press coverage, and you realize they've sent merely a fraction of their parahuman associates to facilitate their takeover of Cleveland.
  8. ~Antioch|GM
  9. The 14K is on the flip-side of the coin, with barely any facts known about them. Plenty of rumors surround the organization, the most chilling suggesting their ties to the CUI, and their involvement with parahuman abduction.
  10. ~Antioch|GM
  11. Scrolling through tedious public information provided by the Cleveland PRT, some non-redacted information catches your eye - it seems as if three days ago, the 14K were witnessed abducting one of the Borgata's parahumans, alias "Cinderblock".
  12. Well, well. Maybe there's some credence to the rumors after all. ||
  13. → Megafire has joined
  14. Firlz_Khandhas
  15. As between the established criminal organization, and the one acting in the shadows, the PRT will probably pay more for the shadowy group's intel. Information, like all assets tend to have diminishing returns, meaning initial findings will be the most valuable.
  16. Firlz_Khandhas
  17. I change into some casual clothes, something that wouldn't seem out of place roaming around the less attractive parts of town. Hoodie and jeans with a baseball cap.
  18. Firlz_Khandhas
  19. Then I grab my makeup kit and stuff my wallet much more full than I normally would, but remove all possible identifying items, ID, credit cards, anything that might have a name on it.
  20. Finally, I grab a knife and stick it in my pocket- They work like crap while I'm split up, but they still cut flesh just fine most of the time.
  21. After I'm dressed up, I split up.
  22. Firlz_Khandhas
  23. I have one of me go to the computer and pull up different images of asian men. We then spend the next while adjusting the clothing to make them look more distinct (wearing the clothing more loosely for some. Removing the ball cap for others. Taking off the hoodie but leaving on the undershirt). Then each of us trades makeup with another so that we
  24. can apply it from a third person's perspective. Using the references on the internet we try and get a nice little group of asian men who are just seedy-looking enough to do drugs, but clearly new enough to the game to not be entirely sure what is going on.
  25. Firlz_Khandhas
  26. The me who was at the computer before closes the pages I was using, and sets the cloned makeup boxes in a drawer, then finally pops himself.
  27. Firlz_Khandhas
  28. One of us heads over to the liquor cabinet and gargles with some of the stronger stuff. We take turns gargling to make sure we have the distinct smell of a good mid-day boozing.
  29. Firlz_Khandhas
  30. Then we head out to 14K territory, and see if we can't get ourselves acquainted with the dealership they have going on. Going from drug dealer to drug dealer and getting a nice map of who does and sells what in the 14k is a good place to start.
  31. //
  32. ~Antioch|GM
  33. You head out to Asia Plaza, the centerpoint of the 14K's operations, looking for any dealers you might be able to milk for information.
  34. ~Antioch|GM
  35. You scan the streets for any shady-looking crooks, without much luck. One of your clones manages to spot a suspicious looking fellow, but he seems a little too nicely dressed to be a street dealer.
  36. ||
  37. Firlz_Khandhas
  38. I give the man a once over, taking turns with my selves keeping up the appearance of a small group who was out having fun. Never letting any one of us linger too long to be suspicious. Not all kinds of suspicious are the kind that signify drug dealer afterall.//
  39. ~Antioch|GM
  40. Hm. If you look closely, you can see the faint outline of a handgun beneath his coat. Your instincts point you towards "enforcer". Well, if he's a higher-up, this might be worthwhile. ||

  43. We make it a point to stand nearby the shady fellow and chat amongst ourselves, clearly talking about what we should do next, before moving on to whether we think shady might have anything good. After seeming to come to an agreement one of me walk off towards him. Just as that self is about to speak one of my other selves shouts "nothing with needl

  47. My self near the shady guy laughs a little and steps up. Looking at suave and shady he speaks, making sure to get close enough that the alcohol from earlier can be smelled, but far enough to keep enough out of the guy's personal space to keep him from feeling a desire to shoot any more than he already did. "Hey, so, buddy over there just got a rais
  48. e. He's taking us out on the town today. Buuut, we're all heavyweights with alcohol, and are looking for something with a bit more kick, ya get me?"
  49. Firlz_Khandhas
  50. Putting on a crooked smile, that we hope looks like we are more affected by the alcohol than we said, my self continues.
  51. Firlz_Khandhas
  52. Whispering like I need him to keep a secret "But pussy over there likes to keep his skin looking nice and pockmark free, so if you've got something that goes in the gullet, that'd be great!"//
  53. ~Antioch|GM
  54. The suit's lip curls as he smells the alcohol on your breath.
  55. He mutters something under his breath. "可憐鬼."

  64. Having them move closer we break off into a pair of pairs, two of us standing a few feet behind chatting while our other two keep pace with the man inviting us. If he leads us inside the building, the two lagging behind will make it a point to get into a bit of an argument (but with a clearly playful tone) while our other two head straight inside w
  65. ithout delay. If the guy asks the one of us that was pointed out as getting a raise will make a snarky remark along the lines of "They always do this, don't worry about it. I'm paying, and if they don't make it in soon enough then that just means more for the rest of us."//

  68. The man leads you towards a nondescript building in Asia Plaza, a dusty, decrepit junk shop, beckoning for you to follow him down the stairs to the basement.
  69. Two of yourselves bicker outside the door, as planned, and while the man in the suit raises his eyebrow, he pays them little heed after their initial outburst.
  70. ||
  71. ← Prothean has quit (Ping timeout: 184 seconds)
  72. Firlz_Khandhas
  73. The two outside continue their "argument" for the time being, keeping an eye on anyone and everyone who passes through the area in the process, but keeping quiet enough to not raise any more suspicion than they already are. The two inside continue down into the depths of the building. The me who mentioned he was paying changes his posture to put ou
  74. t a feeling of bottled excitement and anticipation.
  75. Firlz_Khandhas
  76. The other me on the inside examines every detail he can of the building while remaining discrete about it. Identifying features, faces of anyone we come across, and listening in on conversations to see if he can pick up what sound like names.//
  77. ~Antioch|GM
  78. Even though you catch plenty snippets of conversation, it's almost all exclusively in rapid-fire Chinese, nothing you can understand or pick up on.
  79. ~Antioch|GM
  80. Two of you follow the man into the basement, and you shift drastically from the dingy, stagnant air of an old building to the cool, recirculated air of a building with a newly-installed HVAC system.
  81. ~Antioch|GM
  82. There are several people in the basement - it seems almost a small auditorium, of sorts.
  83. The suit presents the two yous to the assembled individuals.
  84. ~Antioch|GM
  85. "看這些可憐鬼!再看一下美国已经把他们变成!"
  86. ~Antioch|GM
  87. "这一天更是连一半以上,他们已经喝醉了!"
  88. ~Antioch|GM
  89. The people in the basement murmur - discomfort? sympathy? - whatever it is, it seems that the face of the 'addict' that you are presenting doesn't go over too well with the crowd.
  90. ~Antioch|GM
  91. Aboveground, the two yous maintaining the charade of argument don't notice the Asian men flanking you as you bicker outside the doorway.
  92. They gesture to you two meaningfully, indicating that you should go down the stairs as well.

  96. My two selves put on abashed expressions, and begin to spew out a string of apologies at the guards- the purpose is to buy more time to get a feel for what is going on inside, even a few extra seconds could be the difference between walking into a trap with all of my selves at risk and getting home safely, the 14k do have rumors of human traffickin
  97. g afterall-
  98. Firlz_Khandhas
  99. When an appropriate time in the middle of the apologies, my selves outside make a gesture just trying to say, 'just a couple minutes and we'll be good. We've practically worked this out.'//
  100. ~Antioch|GM
  101. You're not sure if the guards are ignoring your gestures or merely incapable of understanding them, but they usher you down the stairs with their hands, firm but unthreatening.
  102. Meanwhile, downstairs, the suit turns to address the other two of you.
  103. "Young men. I am afraid I have deceived you slightly."
  104. "Yes, I do not have the drugs you are looking for, but what I said was still correct. I have what you need."
  105. "You see what this land, this America has done to you? Reduced you to stupid worms looking to suck down poison to escape your troubles!"
  106. ~Antioch|GM
  107. "We will help you with your... ah, addiction. And in time, perhaps you may become useful, productive citizens, loyal to the Chinese Union Imperial."
  108. ||
  109. Firlz_Khandhas
  110. The two selves near the stairs make it a point to slow down their progress, moving when prodded, but being basically a drunk "nuisance". We're betting on the fact that the upstairs guards don't want to alert us before we get downstairs that something is up, and thus won't manhandle us too badly.
  111. My one of my selves downstairs looks up to the suit and speaks "What did you have in mind?", while the other looks around worried, but is actually trying to see who among these people are the muscle/fighters should we need to try and escape.//
  112. ~Antioch|GM
  113. The two guards grow slightly annoyed with your stalling, advancing on your upstairs selves with their palms out, not quite shoving them down the stairs.
  114. Scanning the basement room, short of the suit with his handgun, you don't see any overwhelming physical threats, but you know better than most that a numerical advantage is a significant one indeed.
  115. The suit replies, "You will live with us, find new purpose in your aimless life. And perhaps, with enough training and discipline, your addiction will become loyalty." ||

Before saying “Fuck.” Looking at my self who is palming the knife he says “Do you remember if I gr

  127. Meanwhile the two downstairs respond with surprise and interest, making an expression like the suited man in front of us is giving us hope we hadn’t previously had- with a posture of freshly breathed life into what was previously a meaningless existence. Then they respond with embarassment, the one who was going to ‘bankroll’ the drugs tonight spea

  182. Firlz_Khandhas
  183. Momma's boy thinks for a moment and inquires about what phrases would be proper when meeting a family member after a long time away, some phrases for introducing others, as well as enough to explain what this group is, and how they will help momma's boy become a better man. All of the non-suits in the basement are wearing very similar nondescript clothing, and you can see the underground complex extends further - housing for these fanatic loyalists? it's quite possible.

Making a point of plotting us on a path that will bring us by multiple drug stores, so that keys can try and buy a burner phone to make a call to the PRT.

  240. "Slipping away shouldn't be an issue even without that. I have no idea how they will respond if my guys up and vanish, and where they are located is likely to change if some guys who saw the inside and disappeared after a 'forceful recruitment' attempt."

They have a whole compound or something down there it seems like,

  261. With only one body, I make a mental note of the last location I saw the enforcers, and make sure to keep as much building between me and them as possible. With my power popped, the makeup should have as well, rendering me a shabbily dressed white guy rather than a shabby looking Asian guy.

  263. I tell the dispatch "escape successful. I'm on my way to the PRT now, though I look a bit like a slob, I can head back home first and clean up if you would all prefer."
  264. Keeping track of the time since my last clone popped, I count down a minute as I walk towards the PRT building waiting for a response.//

  268. "I'll be there in a couple minutes." I hang up the phone and head over to the PRT at an unobtrusive trot. Enough to pick up some speed, but slow enough that nobody would give me a second glance.//

  270. When you arrive, one of the officers is there to receive you, leading you to a conference room, a secretary within, ready to transcribe your report to her laptop.
  271. "Well, Mr. Harey, it seems you've had an eventful day."
  272. "Any important information you can tell me? I'd like for you to review for me the events of today, please." ||

  274. "Well it's hard to say what was and wasn't important, so I'll just start at the start." I explain the events as they transpired, that we went looking for drug dealers but came up blank, that we found shades and he took us to the underground place. That once down there they basically gave a pitch for becoming good working citizens of the CUI. The on

I make it a point to emphasize the location and layout of the facility, and everything I can glean or intuit based on it- though noting which parts were observed and which were guesses.

  280. Coming out of it, the officer manages to sketch out a rough map of the interior of the 14K complex, and the secretary types away at her laptop, recording your spiel verbatim. The descriptions are taken down, too, and you assume a sketch artist will make good use of them at some point.

  282. "This is all quite valuable information," the officer says. "We'd certainly appreciate any further details you can give us in the future - you took a big risk today, and I personally appreciate it."

  286. "Hopefully it won't be such a close thing in the future. Today really was just supposed to be getting some preliminary details on who sells what, where. I for one am hoping the Borgata's practices look a bit more like traditional crime than whatever it is the 14K are doing." Remembering the cult-feeling of the place I shiver a little. "When I get

  291. Returning back to your apartment, you still feel slightly discomfited by the vibe of the 14K you experienced earlier today - the day is still young, and you might be able to get some work done, but christ, that place game you the screaming heebie-jeebies. Buncha freaks.
