  1. >Who is Colette?
  2. Colette (names himself after Colette Brunel, from Tales of Symphonia) is a player who's become infamous for his behavior in IRC games. Common complaints are over his penchant for playing prepubescent, "shota" characters of mythical races (catboys, kitsune, merfolk) that also tend to look effeminate, and crossdress, and over his habit of disrupting games by arguing about GM rulings he disagrees with, which he's been accused of doing for periods of time far, far longer than are reasonable, bringing a game to a grinding halt. He's also reputed to be an optimizer, to the point of powergaming.
  3.
  4. Formerly known as Touhoufag, he first came to /tg/'s recognition in D&D 4e optimization threads, where he'd post character builds accompanied by pictures from Touhou that he used as avatars. At an unspecified point he stopped; as time went by he's become better known for killing IRC campaigns. Other aliases include Agata (his handle on Rizon), Adslahnit, and CielPhantomhive (names of two characters he's played).
  5.
  6. >What else do we know about him?
  7. Colette is Filipino. He has a distinct typing style; very precise, very formal, and very, very verbose. He's known to give the shota-traps he plays elaborate backstories, and even his critics concede he's good at staying in character.
  8.
  9. >What don't we know for sure?
  10. Colette is believed to be autistic. Not the 4chan, "any behavior I don't like" definition of autism, but the actual cognitive disorder. He displays an obsessive compulsive streak and a lack of understanding of social cues that may characterize Aspergers.
  11. It's commonly believed that Colette is quite rich.
  12. Some say English isn't his native language, and that he learned it by reading doujins. This is unconfirmed.
  13. It's currently unknown whether he gets a sexual thrill out of playing crossdressing prepubescent magical boys. One would suspect it's his fetish, but those who have played with him tend to report that he doesn't sexualize his characters, or try to initiate sexual situations in-game.
  14. He may be responsible for the "half-fae catboy" meme on /tg/; the phrase may have started as a dismissive summary of the characters he plays. However, this is unverified, and the term may predate him.
  15.
  16. >How bad is he, really?
  17. This is a point of debate when he's mentioned. A number of critics have come forward, telling stories of playing with him, in which they make him out to be That Guy among That Guys. However, other anons have come forward describing Colette as a reasonable if eccentric player, and accuse his critics of embellishing their horror stories. The debate can get pretty ridiculous on both sides; one anti-Colette poster has coined the term "Colette-borater" (a portmanteau of "Colette" and "collaborator") and spent several threads hurling the the accusation at his defenders; another, pro-Colette anon has leveled the charge, in multiple threads, that all the Colette hate is the work of a single poster whose affections were spurned by Colette, that now spends all his time slandering Colette's name on /tg/. Shit's weird, man. Factor in a general lack of chat logs supporting either position, and it's hard to know how bad Colette really is unless you play with him.
  18. That said, even his defenders admit that it's a rare person who's able to tolerate Colette's idiosyncrasies; the general consensus is that playing with him is an infuriating or morale-killing experience for the average person, and should be avoided.
  19.
  20. >Do you have links to any Colette stories?
  21. Not really, no. I've seen a couple stories of games he's played in, but nothing I personally consider particularly damning or vindicating. Didn't see anything I felt worth copying or archiving.

  25. "Just don't put up with players like Colette. Kick them when they misbehave, or even better, don't let them in at all."-Anonymous
