  1. ~the spirit in me is screaming, demanding
  2. i give it a voice.
  3. > I have no choice but
  4. to follow- the question is how well will i do my job,
  5. > and how long will it take me to get around
  6. myself, release my hand and let
  7. > the
  8. words flow from my soul? just release- thoughts fears
  9. expectations
  10. > Release! This mental
  11. agitation-
  12. >
  13. >
  14. Anguish, this same dish,
  15. > Time and again
  16. I find it on my plate
  17. > It arises when I
  18. ignore my fate.
  19. > Fear ties me down,
  20. blinds me in ignorance,
  21. > I cant just
  22. just keep praying for deliverance.
  23. > I
  24. have to rise.
  25. > I have to make my
  26. stand.
  27. > I have to have faith in the
  28. master plan.
  29. > The ultimate prize
  30. > Awaits those who overcome stagnation,
  31. > Shed the negative sensations:
  32. > Those thoughts
  33. > Of
  34. what you ought
  35. > Of always needing
  36. more.
  37. > Of failure
  38. >
  39. Of  worth
  40. > Of judgement
  41. > Just release
  42. > Them to
  43. the wind
  44. > It will carry them far, and if
  45. you just keep pushing though the doubt
  46. >
  47. You will find yourself amidst
  48. > A field
  49. of beauty, a wondrous vision~
  50. >
  51. > "Enough, Daelim! Come outside, for we
  52. are going to go change the world."
  53. >
  54. > What? I don't
  55. recognize the voice, how can they know my name? Curiosity
  56. > outweighs fear and I go outside.
  57. Immediately, my world is transformed,
  58. >
  59. though it's not readily apparent what has changed. I
  60. feel, lighter? But
  61. > with a certain
  62. weight. The prickling of destiny, lingering at the
  63. > extremities of my awareness.
  64. >
  65. > "There's the
  66. man of the hour! Come, Daelim, the time for words on the
  67. page
  68. > is over! Art is meant to be left
  69. behind, to be abandoned for those to come.
  70. > The Word has come- no longer must we wait
  71. and leave signs, for We are the
  72. > ones we
  73. have waited for. And you, my friend, you have been called to
  74. Lead."
  75. >
  76. > The
  77. man before me was big and broad, with a bushy beard, thick
  78. eyebrows
  79. > and a huge smile. Perhaps
  80. absurdly, he had a broadsword hefted on his
  81. > shoulder. I still had my pen in hand, and
  82. its weight shifted. I looked down
  83. > at
  84. it, it was now a slightly curved sword. I looked back at the
  85. man.
  86. >
  87. > "There
  88. is danger where we are going, the path is fraught with
  89. peril. The
  90. > Journey, The Way has come.
  91. It is not an easy path, we will face our fears,
  92. > doubts, and demons literally manifest. But
  93. the good news, Daelim, the good
  94. > news is
  95. that they no longer plague you inside as they have before,
  96. if you
  97. > don't let them. Listen- can
  98. you hear it? The sweet voices of the wind,
  99. > whispering of truth and beauty?"
  100. >
  101. > I cast my eyes
  102. inward. As soon as I do, I hear a voice, pure and true.
  103. She
  104. > is talking to me of grandeur,
  105. telling me what the man had said, that the
  106. > time for making art for those to come was
  107. over.  She also said to guard my
  108. >
  109. heart, to focus on her voice and the images she conjured,
  110. for she would
  111. > give me hope and light
  112. and if I followed her voice i would stay true and go
  113. > on to do great things. I didn't have
  114. the slightest doubt, for her voice
  115. > left
  116. me awash in the feelings that my best days had left me:
  117. > interconnected, United, fulfilled and
  118. creative.
  119. >
  120. > I asked
  121. her if she had a name and she said her name was Amavril. If
  122. I
  123. > could be amazed any further I would
  124. have been disturbed by the fact that a
  125. >
  126. reddish pink sylphlike creature emerged from my chest. At
  127. first, she looked likye an orb with
  128. ears, but then I looked closer and saw that there was a pyxie like being inside of it. She waved
  129. at me and then turned to my compatriot.
  130. >
  131. "Haymirk, Daelim is mute, but he wishes to make it
  132. known that he is quite
  133. > pleased to make
  134. your acquaintance, as he is sure that the two of you will
  135. > make for grand companions," she says
  136. with a curtsy.
  137. >
  138. Haymirk looks shocked, and a bright blue orb emerges from
  139. his chest. The
  140. > two fairies started
  141. chattering really fast and I could only gather snippets
  142. > of their conversation. They were talking
  143. of something called the Grand
  144. > Adventure
  145. and how they were so excited that it was finally here. The
  146. blue
  147. > fairy, called Liliana, expressed
  148. admiration for Amavril, saying that she
  149. >
  150. wouldn't have chosen a different charge even if she
  151. could have, but that
  152. > Amavril was lucky
  153. to have me as her charge.
  154. >
  155. > "I didn't even know they could do
  156. that," haymirk says with a wry grin,
  157. > "Your muse will give you the rundown
  158. soon enough, im sure. but If you're
  159. >
  160. anything like me, you are already feeling the seeds of
  161. doubt. 'Surely there
  162. > must be some
  163. mistake. I'm nobody. I've done nothing. They have
  164. the wrong
  165. > guy.' Amavril will tell
  166. you better than I can, but things are different
  167. > now.
  168. >
  169. > These faeries, they are raw inspiration.
  170. They have chosen us because we
  171. > are
  172. artist, dreamers, philosophers. We dream of a purer world-
  173. we dream of
  174. > Their world, Daelim. We
  175. yearn for its purity, for its unity, and we can see
  176. > it. previously, it was our job to record
  177. what feeble visions we could peer
  178. >
  179. through and share them with the world, who cannot see.
  180. Always, always the
  181. > goal was to get
  182. people to see it so we could bring it here.
  183. >
  184. > There is enough of us
  185. Daelim! Now, for as long as we choose to follow
  186. > them, they will remove the obstacles and
  187. iniquity that have plagued us for
  188. > so
  189. long. Me and you are to journey now, others will join us
  190. along the way.
  191. > Then at some point,
  192. where even the Fairies don't know yet, we will build.
  193. > We will build a city, and those who feel
  194. the Call will come. We will shine
  195. >
  196. brighter, and brighter, until the whole world can
  197. see."
  198. >
  199. > I
  200. needed time to absorb this- I was awash in contrasting
  201. feelings, each
  202. > clamoring for attention.
  203. My head was swirling. I waved my hand for haymirk
  204. > to follow and I headed inside. I had a pot
  205. of tea already brewing and I
  206. > motioned
  207. forwards it, I wasnt hungry but I brought out bread meat
  208. and
  209. > cheese. I was a bit so ed out and
  210. haymirk looked understanding. Even
  211. >
  212. Amavril remained silent, having finished her conversation
  213. with liliana she
  214. > had perched upon my
  215. shoulder.
  216. >
  217. "Take your time" she said softly, then louder
  218.
  219. Take your time" she said softly, then louder: "Daelim wishes for you to
  220. > make yourself at home. He is a bit overcome and needs to gather himself."
  221. >
  222. > I walk back outside. As I sit down to stretch out on the ground, Amavril
  223. > flutters up and then lands on my chest as I lay down. she give me a hug,
  224. > and says. so soft I couldn't have heard her if I didn't feel her words in
  225. > my chest "You are capable, Daelim. When you need me, call and I will come."
  226. >
  227. > then, she faded from view, and the peace she had brought with her was
  228. > gone, too. she understood I needed to deal with my ahit the hard way, raw
  229. > an unfiltered. the first thing to rise, was ugliness: waves of fear, and
  230. > doubt. This couldn't be happening, it was impossible, and even if it was
  231. > possible, it couldn't be happening to me, and even if it was, there was no
  232. > way id be able to do what these people expected of me. Plus, this was
  233. > scary! and I hadn't even taken a step yet. This way was change- yes, there
  234. > was a dim glimmer of hope at the end of the road- and, actually taking a
  235. > closer look, lining the whole road. BUT! what if I wasn't ready?
  236. >
  237. > could I really hold up to the weight of hopes and expectations? How could
  238. > I know if I didn't try? well if you don't try you cant fail. yes but if I
  239. > don't try I cant succeed- its okay to be afraid, its okay to worry. I thank
  240. > you, but I am not going to listen to you. hope began to blaze in my chest-
  241. > MY hope, created by me- I WAS ready. I was going to do this. By my side, my
  242. > pensword hummed quietly. the hope, that had guttered so long inside of my
  243. > chest was now ablaze. As if in response, Amavril winks back into existence,
  244. > and with her the peace and unity that her presence bought.
  245. >
  246. > "Oh, I'm so proud of you Daelim! we are going to do amazing things
  247. > together"
  248. >
  249. > I used my sword to as leverage to climb to my feet and as i did so the
  250. > door to my little cabin burst open and Haymirk stooped through the doorway,
  251. > laughing heartily. He slaps me on the back, giving my heart a jump, and he
  252. > presses a pack into my hands.
  253. >
  254. > "I knew it wouldn't take you long! Hope you don't mind but I took the
  255. > liberty of packing up the food you had in your cabin and your spare
  256. > clothes. Now, lets set off!"
  257. >
  258. > Liliana burst out of his chest bursting with song, and her and amavril
  259. > fluttered above our path as me and Haymirk set off, to where none of us
  260. > knew, and yet hope and beauty were in the air. I had written, in despair,
  261. > of having faith in the master plan, and now I actually had it. This road,
  262. > wasn't going to be easy, it was frought with hardship and peril but it
  263. > would be everything I had ever wished for. If I could speak I would have
  264. > lifted my voice up to the wind, so jouyeous was I. And, like that, we were
  265. > off- the end of a futile existence and the beginning of the Grand
  266. > Adventure. I still didn't know what it was, but I could feel it, singing in
  267. > the air and in my bones, whispering in the wind and radiating from the sun.
