  1. >Day Weird Bedfellows in Equestria
  2. >you, Anon, have decided to take a small nature walk
  3. >it's quiet but worthwhile excercise
  4. >there were no video games to entertain you in Equestria
  5. >not yet
  6. >clad in hiking boots and cargo shorts, you scale the path you follow, doing your best Bear Grylls
  7. "I'm out here in the lively forests of Equestria... I don't think I'm gonna make it out alive."
  8. >you've never been to this part of the woods before
  9. "Let's see what we got ourselves 'ere."
  10. >pushing brush out of your way, you find a dragon merely sitting before you
  11. >its body is covered in gorgeous jewels and gemstones
  12. >its demeanor is quite the contrary
  13. >wall-eyed and dumb to the world around it
  14. >it turns to look at you
  15. >its tongue lolls out
  16. >you have to smile at the magnificent beast
  17. >you walk towards it, fearlessly outstretching a hand
  18. >it looks steadily at you, not motioning to move or escape at all
  19. >as your hand touches the dragon's nose, a female thought intrudes on your own
  20. >Hello, human.
  21. >you stare confusedly
  22. >you hear a sigh
  23. >Yes, the dragon can talk.
  24. "Why don't you speak aloud then?"
  25. >she makes an array of odd, non-intelligable sounds
  26. >My vocal chords have been shattered for eons.
  27. "That sucks. Do you have a name?"
  28. >Crackle.
  29. >you laugh softly
  30. "How'd you get slapped with that name?"
  31. >I could not go against it.
  32. >her voice switches from calm dragoness to one who don't need no man
  33. >They gotta touch me to hear me anyway.
  34. >you laugh, and Crackle... makes noises
  35. >you gaze around the forest, taking in your surroundings
  36. "Do you always just... relax here?"
  37. >she nods
  38. >I come here to avoid the rowdy teenage dragons at the volcano.
  39. >meeting a talking dragon is commonplace in Equestria
  40. >meeting a telepathic dragon is a whole other story
  41. "Can we meet again?"
  42. >Crackle gasps
  43. >you're so taken aback you remove your hand from her snout
  44. >she huffs irritably, lifting herself and clomping forward, forcing her nose into the nook of your hand
  45. >Don't do that.
  46. >you bite your lip and root yourself
  47. >I'll make a deal with you, human. I'll come here again tomorrow at this exact time.
  48. >you check your watch
  49. >you couldn't believe the battery still worked
  50. >You'll have a 15-minute grace period, of course. If you aren't here in that time frame, you'll have to find me yourself if you want to see me again.
  51. "And if I come back tomorrow?"
  52. >I'll come back any time you tell me to.
  53. "Game on."
  54.
  55. >fighting with branches, you make your way out into the open again
  56. >you're 15 minutes early
  57. >you smile and set down the picnic basket you brought with you
  58. >you carefully spread the sheet on the grass, bringing out your inner fashion designer to make everything look professional
  59. >you lay down and smile, covering your eyes with the cap you wear
  60. >without realizing it, you nod off
  61. >when you come to, on your chest is the head of a dragon
  62. >still connected, of course
  63. >you reach forward and pet her lightly
  64. "How long was I out?"
  65. >Crackle lifts her head, playfully blowing smoke at you
  66. >you cough, wiping your eyes
  67. >It's been over half an hour, but who's counting?
  68. >your fingers trail over Crackle's scales, your mind lost in thought
  69. "How'd I do?"
  70. >Crackle puts her head right under your chin, getting progressively more cuddlesome
  71. >Very well, human.
  72. "You can call me Anonymous."
  73. >you feel confusion wash over your thoughts
  74. >And you call my name odd?
  75. "Yeah, I got stuck with this stupid name on Earth."
  76. >you close your eyes again
  77.
  78. >it went on like this for several months
  79. >every day you could spare, you were at that spot in the woods, swapping informational knowledge with each other
  80. >things were really looking good for the two of you
  81. >she was a lot smarter than you originally thought
  82. >smarter than anyone could conceive
  83. >she taught you about physics, mathematics, and the draconic language
  84. >oddly similar to Japanese
  85. >every day, Crackle would be in her spot, her eyes betraying the true beauty she held
  86. >she was a gift in your life, a pearl granted to you by some higher being
  87. >definitely not god though
  88. >more like... someone with an active imagination thinking on their feet
  89. >one day on your way to the spot, you lost your footing
  90. >plummeting like that was definitely the scariest thing you'd ever put yourself through
  91. >it trumped any roller coaster you'd ever ridden
  92. >within a minute, ponies had helped you and alerted medics for further assistance
  93. >while on the back of a pony, a leg hanging limply off to the side, you begged they alert Crackle
  94. >the dragon stormed into your hospital room, nosing you over a few times
  95. "Haha, cut it out girl. I'm perfectly fine."
  96. >Are you positive, Anonymous?
  97. "Yeah, no worries. Just didn't want my favorite girl to think I was ditching."
  98. >she sighs happily, planting herself by your bed
  99. >the nurse looks back and forth between the two of you several times before shrugging and exiting the room
  100. "I hope I don't have to stay here long."
  101. >your stay quickly morphed into a two-month adventure of horse doctors trying to figure out human anatomy
  102. >you wished inwardly for Beth
  103. >right outside the hospital on the day of your release was none other than Crackle
  104. >tail wagging, she wheeled you home, not a complaint to be had
  105. >she presses her snout to you
  106. >I'm so glad you're ok!
  107. >you're quiet as you wheel yourself in
  108. >the dragoness whines behind you
  109. >she nudges closer, taking note of any fragile objects she needed to avoid
  110. >Is something on your mind?
  111. "I'm just tired is all. Will I still get to see you?"
  112. >That's what I wanted to inquire about.
  113. >she sits at attention, a serious expression crossing her face
  114. >I'd like to make my barracks here.
  115.
  116. >the sun shines on your face, waking you up
  117. "Aw... I was dreaming about Earth."
  118. >What did you dream of?
  119. >it's been three months since you broke your leg
  120. >three wonderful months with your dragon lover
  121. >how did Crackle become your lover, you ask?
  122. >after a couple weeks of being together, Crackle fell into her heat cycle
  123. >within hours of waking, the two of you were fornicating like wild dogs
  124. "It was nice. I got to eat my mom's cooking again. Very homey."
  125. >What's you're mother like?
  126. >it was really wonderful
  127. >somehow, the two of you got even closer then
  128. >Crackle let you inside of her
  129. >like, she opened her thoughts to you
  130. >for exploration purposes
  131. >you found how she felt about you
  132. >it was all you needed to see to absolutely know that you belonged with Crackle
  133. >things had progressed real smoothly afterwards
  134. >Pinkie threw the two of you a little party, and Princess Twilight graced you with her presence
  135. >although there ended up being some showtune about Twilight's involvement in Pinkie's parties
  136. >ponies
  137. "My mother was a truly nice lady. Heart of gold with the wits of a goldfish."
  138. >Crackle giggles
  139. >you wrap your arms around her, kissing her nose with a smile
  140. "Breakfast?"
  141. >Yes please! I'm starving!
  142. >the days went by like this for another week before another astonishing development reached your... mind ears
  143. >after an extended visit to the bathroom one morning, you have a suspicion
  144. "Is everything ok?"
  145. >the tip of her tail connects with your foot
  146. >I think I'm going to bear a child, Anonymous.
  147.
  148. >that bundle of joy became your daughter, Snap
  149. >when the doctor came to you with the news, she didn't seem to know how to put it into words
  150. >as she stumbled on simple phrases, you held the blanket wrapped child
  151. >as you unwrapped her, it was apparent that fantasy had taken hold of your reality
  152. >her upper half was as normal as a baby could be
  153. >cutely squinting eyes, porky little fingers, and a belly perfect for raspberries
  154. >the other half was normal as well... in dragon standards
  155. >her tail was stubby, her legs were thick, and her toes had tiny claws already growing
  156. >you held her close, tears of joy rolling down your face
  157. >when you showed Crackle, she couldn't be happier
  158. >a hybrid of your kinds in one body?
  159. >what could be better?
  160. >Crackle did ask why you chose the name Snap over Chrysanthemum
  161. >gee, I wonder why?
  162. >you managed to explain to an ancient dragon that a cereal box had inspired the name
  163. >she found it insanely adorable, as well as a fair homage to your own world
  164. >soon enough, your days focus was shifted onto your child, spending as much time with her as you could
  165. >she babbled and you laughed
  166. >even if all her baby sounds were those of a baby dragon
  167. >just like her mother, Snap seemed dumb to the world, not being able to speak for many years
  168. >you'd constantly put her hand on you, trying to have her communicate with you
  169. >it just didn't seem like she had much going on in the attic
  170. >when Snap turned two, you and Crackle wed
  171. >Applejack offered to take care of her during the ceremony
  172. >you thought it'd be an omen of good health for her incoming child
  173. >there were others like your little girl
  174. >they laughed with you, telling you how the doctor thought they'd chuck their own flesh and blood out the window because of their difference
  175. >each and every doctor was rightfully wrong
  176. >serving as flowerchildren were Darcy, age 3; Hope, age 3 and a half; and Icarus, age 2
  177. >each and every satyr was beautiful in their own way
  178. >everyone cried at the ceremony
  179. >some out of confusion, having never truly met Crackle, and others out of happiness
  180. >"You may kiss the groom."
  181. >those words were etched into your memory
  182. >not because it was the bonding between you and your now lovely wife
  183. >because that day, when you lifted Snap from Applejack's waiting back, she held your face in her palms
  184. >It's wonderful to see Mommy so happy, Daddy.
