  39.
  40. -Part 1: Basic Setup-
  41. This the bare minimum you need to do to run multiplayer, consider these as required steps
  42.
  43. *Custom Edition*
  44. Custom Edition is a standalone release, and does not require the original Halo PC disc to install.
  45. >Download and extract Halo: Custom Edition. (https://opencarnage.net/misc/HaloCE%20Installer.zip)
  46. >Run halocesetup_en_1.00.exe, and follow the installer.
  47. >When prompted, use this serial key: mcxmm-y29c6-dr36c-b6w4t-t9p73
  48. Don't forget to choose the install path, or at least remember the default path (should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition)
  49.
  50. *Official Patch*
  51. >Download patch 1.0.10. (https://opencarnage.net/misc/HaloCE%201.10%20Patch.zip)
  52. >Extract anywhere, and run haloce-patch-1.0.10.exe as administrator.
  53. This patch is required for higher resolutions and fetching multiplayer servers
  54.
  55. >run haloce.exe to make sure everything is working
  56.
  57.
  58. -Part 2: Campaign and Enhancements-
  59. Singleplayer, fixed maps, smooth animations, and HRTF
  60.
  61. *Halo Refined Project*
  62. These are mostly fixed versions of the Halo PC maps using the Xbox release as a reference. At the time of writing, they're even more accurate to Xbox Halo than CEA or MCC's classic mode.
  63. >Download Refined maps (http://www.proxeninc.net/Halo/Refined/)
  64. The files you will want:
  65. refined_ui_map.7z - The main menu, with an option for campaign
  66. haloce_mp_semirefined_r13_en.7z - Multiplayer maps compatible with stock MP maps
  67. refined_sp_maps_-_english.7z - Refined campaign maps in English. These can be loaded with any ui.map that has a campaign option
  68.
  69. Extract the .map files to your maps folder (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\maps) If prompted, replace files. Don't forget to make backups.
  70.
  71. *Chimera*
  72. Chimera adds several new features that can be enabled and adjusted through the developer console, such as interpolated (smoothed) animations.
  73. >Download Chimera (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/399422128333651980/554846894782808064/chimera_build_-581.zip)
  74. >For gamepad users, use build 49 instead (https://opencarnage.net/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=745)
  75. >Extract chimera.dll to your controls folder (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\controls)
  76. You can see all of the features by typing chimera into the console, but here's some of the more useful commands
  77. chimera_af 1 - Enables anisotropic filtering.
  78. chimera_widescreen_scope_fix 1 - Fixes the stretching of the pistol/sniper scope overlay in widescreen resolutions.
  79. chimera_sniper_hud_fix 1 - Fixes the misaligned sniper scope overlay.
  80. chimera_block_mouse_acceleration 1 - Enables raw mouse input.
  81. chimera_fov_fix 1 - Fixes FoV modifications.
  82. chimera_vfov 71 - Sets vertical FoV. Default is 55.41, recommend 68 or higher for widescreen resolutions.
  83. chimera_throttle_fps 60 - Sets upper framerate limit.
  84. chimera_uncap_cinematic 1 - Disables 30 fps limit in cutscenes.
  85. chimera_interpolate 8 - Smooths visual movement of animations, projectiles, particles, vehicles, debris, and more. Ranges from 0-9; higher values are smoother, but more resource intensive. Recommend 7 or above on higher end systems, 4 or below on laptops and lower end systems.
  86.
  87. *Direct Sound wrapper for OpenAL*
  88. DSOAL restores EAX's 3D positional audio and reverb functionality for modern sound cards. This is essential if you want sound closer to the Xbox release, or plan to play Halo with a HMD.
  89. >Download DSOAL (vaporeon.io/hosted/dsoal-builds/dsoal-r391.7z)
  90. >Extract to the folder containing haloce.exe (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition)
  91. >If you are running Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, open Control Panel->Sound. Select the default device and click Properties. In the Enhancements tab of the Properties window, make sure "Disable all enhancements" is ticked. In the Spatial sound tab, set Spatial sound format to Off.
  92. >Run Halo CE and navigate to Audio Setup in Settings
  93. >Enable Hardware Acceleration, then enable Environmental Sound
  94.
  95.
  96. -Part 3: Extras-
  97. Command line arguments, borderless windowed mode, utility suites
  98.
  99. *Startup Parameters*
  100. Halo CE accepts certain command line arguments for debugging and hosting
  101. >Create a new shortcut for haloce.exe
  102. >Right-click the shortcut and select Properties
  103. >Add your parameters in the target field after the file path, separated by a space (i.e "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -console -window)
  104. You can view the complete list of arguments by running Halo CE with the -? parameter
  105.
  106. *Borderless Windowed Mode*
  107. >Download Borderless Gaming (https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases)
  108. >Run BorderlessGaming9.5.6_admin_setup.exe and follow the installer
  109. >Add the -window and -vidmode parameters to your haloce.exe shortcut, and follow -vidmode with your desired horizontal resolution, vertical resolution and refresh rate (i.e "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -window -vidmode 1920,1080,60)
  110. >Run Borderless Gaming in admin mode
  111. >Run Halo Custom Edition from your shortcut
  112. >If the game crashes on startup, reduce the resolution specified by -vidmode to something slightly below your monitor's resolution
  113.
  114. *OpenSauce*
  115. OpenSauce is a utility suite for Halo CE which adds shader extensions for custom maps, map downloading, optional post-processing effects, increases rendering budget, and is a requirement for playing .yelo maps. OpenSauce is incompatible with HAC 2 and should not be installed at the same time as HAC 2.
  116. >Download OpenSauce (http://www.halomods.com/ips/index.php?/topic/848-opensauce-v400-release/)
  117. >Create a backup copy of your Halo Custom Edition install folder
  118. >Run OpenSauce_Halo1_CE_20150302.msi, and follow the installer
  119.
  120. *Halo Anticheat 2*
  121. HAC 2 is a utility suite for Halo CE which adds multiplayer medals, map downloading, additional console commands, increases rendering budget, and improves the chat feed in multiplayer. It does not actually have any anti-cheat functionality. HAC 2 is incompatible with OpenSauce and should not be installed at the same time as OpenSauce.
  122. >Download Halo Anticheat 2 (http://198.98.120.174/)
  123. >Create a backup copy of your Halo Custom Edition install folder
  124. >Move loader.dll to your controls folder (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\controls)
  125.
  126.
  127. -Part 4: Mods and Custom Maps-
  128. Halo Custom Edition has a backlog of user-generated content spanning over a decade, and continues to enjoy an active modding community. Before installing any custom content, make sure you have a backup of your Halo Custom Edition install folder, or at least backups of any files that will be overwritten.
  129.
  130. *Installing Maps*
  131. >Download the map you want to install
  132. >Move or extract the .map file to your maps folder (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\maps)
  133. >If the map is a .yelo file instead of a .map file, you must install OpenSauce first
  134. >To run a multiplayer map, host a multiplayer game, custom maps will be listed at the bottom of your maps list
  135. >To run a singleplayer or firefight map, either run it from the console (default key is `/~ or key directly to the left of the 1/! key) with the command "map_name map" (without quotes, and "map" being the filename of the map, i.e "map_name a10" to start The Pillar of Autumn), or use Universal UI (http://hce.halomaps.org/?fid=6952) to run them from the main menu
