71. Rio Teixeira was born to a relatively small family in Brazil - just her mother, her little sister Valentina (Val), and herself. Her father had left her mother long before she was born, and so she too was left to care for her mother - suffering from heavy depression, and her little sister - who was still too immature to understand her mother's mental ills and was generally silent on the matter. Emotionally damaged by trying to be the center of morale for her family, she turned to poetry - and despite being 15 at the time to her little sister's 5 years of age, she began to speak to an imaginary friend that she named 'Ixtab' after a Mayan goddess - who in her mind appeared as a woman wearing an elegant flowing robe with scars all over her body, some constantly bleeding. Ixtab was the one she confided in, and although she doubted the reality - that she had merely imagined this woman - of her confidante, she kept to it and it relieved her stress. When her mother finally died - perhaps of stress, perhaps of her own means - she didn't stay to find out exactly how, and took her sister Val to move to New York and the states. Her past was behind her, or so she thought.
72.
73.
Ixtab hadn't left her yet, and ominously mentioned a promise written out by Rio to the girl. Flipping through her poem notebook, she discovered that she had, indeed, kept careful record of a so-called 'promise' - if she simply wrote out what she wished the goddess to do, she would do it - provided it was within her power. She stared at the notebook for a while, and slowly drew out her pen.
74.
75.
"What do you want me to say?"
76.
77.
"Anything you wish, child. You simply need to give me a purpose."
78.
79.
Despite her unwillingness to do anything, Rio reluctantly wrote down that she wished her sister and herself to be protected at any cost. Using her notebook to direct her goddess-now-guardian, she now acts to defend herself and her younger sister - and perhaps more, if she can be compelled that it's worth it.
80.
81.
Rio is straight-laced, intelligent, and keeps a good head on her shoulders while being the slightest bit sarcastic and deadpan. She's quite shy about her actual poetry and tends to hate when people actually read it, but she keeps a down-to-earth personality most of the time and is relatively well adjusted in battle -- managing to keep her head even when she's terrified on the inside simply because she knows she has to.
82.
83.

84. ★ Rio's main ability is directing Ixtab via her poetry book. HOWEVER, all of her commands must be written in lyrical format and she must read her contract aloud to summon Ixtab to begin with.
85.
86.
My life is your own, and your lifeforce is mine. Protect what I have lost and what I will lose avenge. My name is Poet. Ixtab, I summon thee.
87.
88.
In addition, her powers are limited - at Ixtab's current state of power, she wields a rope and can use blood pooling from her scars to heal her master - and she can shift her rope into a spear. Ixtab herself cannot be hurt, but as Rio is hurt, so is she. They are linked together, and Rio is generally defenseless without the goddess guarding her. However, her cunning planning can easily manipulate it so that she's out of an opponent's grasp - and if she is not hurt, neither is her goddess. In addition, she must continue giving her commands, or she begins to fade.
89.
90.
Ixtab's main moves involve attempting to strangle an opponent with her rope, stiffening her rope into a spear and attempting to stab an opponent, and using her ever pooling blood to heal her allies. She cannot do all three at the same time, of course, but no matter what she does it's relatively potent. Rio can mostly direct Ixtab, but if forced into combat herself, she primarily hits people with her totebag, runs, trips opponents, and kicks them in an effort to get away.
91.
92.

93. ★ As mentioned above, Rio has to direct Ixtab or she fades away, Rio is defenseless without her guardian goddess, and she must write all commands in lyrical poetry. She also must keep her poetry book, or Ixtab fades away much faster. Rio is overall very mortal and can be hurt by mortal means fairly easily, making her unsure amongst the superhumans and mortals far above her, but she makes an effort.
