  1. <VikeStep> Can someone explain the reasoning behind the introduction of the last 2 voting rules here: http://mcp.ocean-labs.de/modjam/voting.php
  2. <VikeStep> I just dont see why it was a problem to leave it like it was before
  3. * NPE|tablet has quit (Quit: AndroIRC - Android IRC Client ( http://www.androirc.com ))
  4. <AbrarSyed> VikeStep, right so.. think about it this way.
  5. <AbrarSyed> you got a modjam of 2 teams
  6. <AbrarSyed> 1 team has 4 people, the other has 2
  7. <AbrarSyed> you cannot vote for your own mod.
  8. <AbrarSyed> who wins?
  9. <VikeStep> The team
  10. <AbrarSyed> which one?
  11. <AbrarSyed> team 1? or team 2?
  12. <VikeStep> I am not sure I catch your drift, but there arent 2 teams
  13. <AbrarSyed> team 1 has 4 people team 2 has 2 people
  14. <VikeStep> there are 90 (and I know not all will finish... but it still isnt 2)
  15. <AbrarSyed> then your not getting it... who wins in such a competition?
  16. <npe|work> team 2!
  17. <npe|work> cookie for me?
  18. <VikeStep> yes, I understand that part...
  19. <VikeStep> but, on a large scale is that really still an issue?
  20. <AbrarSyed> right.then you understand that as a team member.. and as a larger team.. you dont have the same chance as a solo or smaller team
  21. <AbrarSyed> hence.. making a team worth 1 fixes the issue./
  22. <VikeStep> ok then.. I'll take that I guess
  23. <npe|work> i can understand VikeStep's point though. at the current number of participants, that rule doesn't seem relevant.
  24. <npe|work> at this state its more like restricting individual opinions to be less worthy than others
  25. <VikeStep> ^
  26. <AbrarSyed> at the risk of lessening your own chances to win.
  27. <VikeStep> "risk" If the mod was good enough to win it wouldn't need the extra 3 points you gave because you had a bigger team
  28. <npe|work> by an negligible amount.
  29. * Mr_okushama ([email protected]) has joined
  30. <AbrarSyed> well.. apperantly people complained about it last modjam, and didnt vote because of it
  31. <AbrarSyed> apperantly they had very few people voting
  32. <npe|work> good point, i remember that
  33. <VikeStep> Hmm, well then why not enforce a team vote? Make it so that you can only have one vote per team instead of multiple votes in the one team?
  34. <npe|work> ^
  35. <VikeStep> by that I mean, no fractions and the like
  36. <VikeStep> I'm sure the teams of 3 can decide among themselves who they want to vote
  37. <npe|work> if you have each vote be worth 1/teamsize, its restricting the individuals anyway
  38. <AbrarSyed> now see.. that I think is worse than making your opinion worth tless than 1
  39. <AbrarSyed> then you have confom to the team leader or whatever.. rather than choosing whoever you want
  40. <VikeStep> How many people complained about this issue last year though, and would this rule change their position at all?
  41. <VikeStep> I understand there is a disadvantage... but from my eyes that disadvantage is barely noticeable at the larger number of contestants
  42. <VikeStep> and there are only like 5 or so places from the vote tally that count if the first few people decide to pass on their award
  43. <AbrarSyed> thats assuming everyone votes..
  44. <AbrarSyed> which less than likely
  45. <VikeStep> which raises the other point, the way you are encouraging people to vote by getting points from it also has drawbacks
  46. <VikeStep> people will vote just so they can get points.
  47. <VikeStep> I can almost guarantee that whatever mod is placed at the top of the list (default option) will have a better advantage over the others
  48. <npe|work> and will probably vote without having tested the mods themselves
  49. <npe|work> you could randomize the list then
  50. <npe|work> or always put the one with currently the least votes on top
  51. <VikeStep> I myself can't think of an alternative for that. A better way would be to possibly make a pack with all the mods and send it to all the mod devs
  52. <VikeStep> so they dont have to manually install all 100 of them
  53. <VikeStep> and then there is a better chance they will vote as they actually have an opinion for most of them
  54. <AbrarSyed> there is only so much we can do..
  55. <AbrarSyed> but if everyone votes.. everything will be equalized
  56. <AbrarSyed> even the extra points
  57. <VikeStep> yeah, i understand and I understand the need for the extra points
  58. <AbrarSyed> and even the random votes will be outweighed by elgit people.
  59. <AbrarSyed> because.. ya know.. do unto others as you wish for yourself
  60. <VikeStep> by that standard everyone would vote
  61. <VikeStep> because you know they want people to vote for them
  62. <VikeStep> therefore do unto that for others
  63. <AbrarSyed> I disagree
  64. <AbrarSyed> last time I didnt vote because of do unto others
  65. <AbrarSyed> I didnt think id be able to do justice to everyones mds.. because I didnt have time to play all 70 of them..
  66. <AbrarSyed> so I didnt vote.
  67. <AbrarSyed> these extra 10 points would motivate me to put in that little bit of extra effort in order to win
  68. <AbrarSyed> sure its not failsafe.. but what is?
  69. <VikeStep> Hmm.. I see, well good luck with ModJam, I now realise that even though I have a complaint, there is no real alternative. Thanks for your time
  70. <AbrarSyed> ^^ yeah
  71. <AbrarSyed> exactly what I thaught when they explained it to me :)
  72. <VikeStep> You will probably run into more people complaining like me so why doesn't someone elaborate on this reasoning a bit more
