Status of access to Medium via Malaysian ISPs

Status of access to Medium via Malaysian ISPs (last update: 27 Jan 2016) I was very confused by Medium Legal’s post about Malaysia blocking access to Medium [url: https://medium.com/medium-legal/the-post-stays-up-d222e34cb7e7#.i1et2zzbv] since I could easily access Medium from my TMnet WiFi connection in Johor Bahru (which is how I’m writing this) (update: turns out I was on UniFi this entire time, but because TM owns UniFi I got confused. Sorry Medium Legal!!!). A friend had initially told me that the block was temporary and had happened a while ago, but then after some discussion on Twitter with other people it seems the answer is not so clear-cut.

I’d like to keep a record of which ISPs in Malaysia are throttling access to Medium. If you’d like to contribute, please respond to this post or tweet me @creatrixtiara with:

Your ISP
Whether it’s a mobile data plan, a WiFi company, or some other situation (e.g. airport WiFi)
Whether you’re using the app or going straight to browser (more applicable for mobile users)
What happens when you try to access Medium (timed out, message from Government, works fine, etc)
Any other information that may be salient

I understand the irony of posting this on a site that some people can’t access, so if you can read this but know of someone who can’t, feel free to report on their behalf. I’ll keep reports anonymous.

Please use your default DNS servers to test this. Don’t try to test this via Google’s DNS or anything else.

If you’ve tested this earlier and are only now seeing this, try to access Medium NOW so that we can get the most recent information.

List So Far:

WiFi Providers TMnet: Not working for an entire week
UniFi: Intermittent access — some report timeouts, some can still access

Mobile Providers Maxis:
App: Intermittent access
Browser: Timed out (no message, nothing loads)
Celcom: Not working
Digi: Works fine
