*The Kroot are a species of savage humanoids who evolved from avian creatures. A unique feature of the Kroot is that they evolve by selecting traits of their defeated foes to absorb by eating them. Kroot that eat non-sapient creatures for too long eventually devolve into a feral state.

*Merrows are a race of merfolk that evolved to be able to walk on land as well as the sea. Must spend at least half an hour underwater every day in order to stay healthy. Born as squid-like babies, Inkling eventually gain the ability to transform into a human-like form at the age of 14. The humanoid form has a black marking resembling a mask around their eyes, pointed ears, and tentacles that are the closest thing to hair they have. They possess pointed teeth similar to a squid's beak. Their squid form resembles a brightly-colored cephalopod the same colour as the Inkling's "hair" with two long clubbed tentacles, four shorter tentacles, and two large eyes that seem to be joined. Inklings evidently have no bones, excellent eyesight, and the ability to leap 5 feet in a single bound, as shown in one of the sunken scrolls. They are characterized as being aggressive. Their spoken language is composed of high-pitched gargling noises. Their bodies are composed of a special ink-like substance that dissolves in water. While not completely fatal, a submerged inkling effetively becomes harmless until they can make it back to land to reassemble themselves.
