- Mermaid
- I'll give you oceans in the depths of wrists,
- a pounding pulse in the tropics of veins,
- sand wet and tidal, ebbing to the push
- and pull of valves inside your coral heart.
- I willingly drown, ready to decipher
- each grain of salt residing in your arteries,
- seeking pearl sweat and wrecked ships, to the slip
- of shoulders' bare; daring a lightning bolt
- to glow as brightly as your body in the dark.
- I've never known such light, such surf, such tides
- as those your eyes invoke; carnivorous
- green and far too beautiful to encroach,
- but there I go, searching the shores for shells
