Well, there’s no way you can deny it now. You’re laying here trying not to be sick all over the place and you’re wondering why? Now you know. Now the stupid pee stick has the little plus sign and you have to come to terms with the fact that you went through that entire dangerous mission pregnant. You nearly cost yourself not one, but two lives.

You always knew it could, but you’d always deny it could never happen to you. You’d be safe. It wouldn’t take. But you almost kind of wanted it to, didn’t you? To create something with him, something beautiful and unique. Something only the two of you could make.

But does he want that?

He’s wonderful with children, and by now you know it. When he interacts with your niece or your two nephews your heart melts. But he works. He’s got his business and his teaching to do. He won’t have the time for one full time. Your bits just ruined his life and it isn’t like you have much of a choice considering societal standards among your kind.

You don’t want to make that choice anyway, a part deep down inside of you sighs.

You know you want it. You know you’ll keep it. Maybe it’ll be best if you just tell him he has no obligation to stay. He should live his life and be free, not be tied down by your womb. That’s not right when guy wolves do it, and it wouldn’t be right if you did it. He should find someone who won’t ruin his life.

You don’t want him to leave you, though. The thought of him alone makes you want to live, even if only for his sake. But it’s his choice. You’ve made yours.

You roll over on your shitty futon and pull up the blanket draped over you to cover your shoulders. You have plenty of support. It’s going to be okay.

Right?

You shiver as the door to the cabin swings open.
