  1. Hallow S. (GM): Concerns: Your general tone seems to imply a less fantasy more historical men/women gender roles, and this acts highly contrarily to literally everyone else's backstories, and even general pathfinder tone.
  2.
  3. Ekko: you mean regarding the priestesses?
  4.
  5. Hallow S. (GM): "While men control the world, women control the world's men"
  6.
  7. Ekko: hmm...well I can easily change that if you like
  8.
  9. Hallow S. (GM): Right now, the two largest most powerful empires in the world are both lead by females.
  10.
  11. Ekko: I'm not attached to that bit of lore, I honestly recalled it from something else when I was writing it
  12.
  13. Hallow S. (GM): Regardless, that same tone permeates much of your work, I simply picked an obvious example.
  14.
  15. Ekko: I can easily change all of that if it is a problem
  16. it's irrelevant to the empire or my character
  17.
  18. Hallow S. (GM): I'm also confused by how the Sixth Emperor story and the general mythology stuff is woven into the text about other things. I can't keep track of whether we're talking about you, or mythology, or history, at any given time, and the lack of nice separation makes it difficult for me to parse details.
  19.
  20. Ekko: the Sixth emperor story is a legend, probably never happened
  21. it's just an illustration of how much influence the women who come out of the Arusei temple have over people
  22.
  23. Hallow S. (GM): What race(s) are the Xiajen?
  24. Also, your character seems to have no guiding traits other than "Loyal." I see no reasons your character would ever go any character arcs unless I caused you to be needlessly betrayed, or stole the rug out from under you.
  25.
  26. Ekko: The Xiajen is a mixed race empire, lots of humans and kitsune, some of the other races in the world as well. It's massive enough that it has a diverse population of citizens
  27. Jesi is very strategic in how she solves problems, and always tries to find the solution that incurs the least violence. She would rather bend people than break them. Her motives are aligned almost perfectly with the Empire - she serves it wholeheartedly, and quite selflessly
  28.
  29. Hallow S. (GM): So, what I'm left with is "I'd have to fit in ANOTHER huge empire with vast clout, right next to the kitsunes, with lore that was written too unclearly for me to easily parse other than 'There's a special training temple for Courtesans, and two legends'."
  30. There's a lot of material, but it's not easy to parse, and it still doesn't add any growth potential to your character.
  31.
  32. Ekko: Hold on...
  33. I submitted an application without any lore for the express reason that it would be easy to incorporate into your world without adding another empire
  34. you told me to exapnd it, and add these types of details
  35. Maybe i misunderstood you, but given the other applications you pointed to as acceptable, I thought this is what you wanted
  36. I'm pretty srue you mentioned you wanted help with the worldbuilding
  37.
  38. Hallow S. (GM): Here's the key difference. When I read through their stuff, I came away with a clear impression of what all that worldbuilding meant.
  39. When I finished yours, I was going "Uuuuuuh... I guess I need to reread it?"
  40.
  41. Ekko: I am happy to work any of these problems out with you, but I am sensing that you don't want to
  42.
  43. Hallow S. (GM): I looked over it again to give you this review, and my final analysis is this.
  44. I think we could work our differences out. But if this is your style, I think it would be more work to work together Satisfyingly.
  45.
  46. Ekko: if you give me some specific guidelines - what type of content you wanted - I would be happy to assemble it
  47.
  48. Hallow S. (GM): Given that I have to judge harshly on a potential 5th applicant, I'm thinking no.
  49. My fear is that in the future, we'd need to do this same tweaking two or three times to come to understand and agree, and I can't accept that in a fifth player.
  50. My apologies.
  51.
  52. Ekko: I'm not sure what you are expecting from me, or if it is possible to meet your criteria
  53. I submitted a light, easy-to incorporate application, which you rejected - I then expanded it, and you say it's too much - now I ask what you might like, and you say because it isn't perfect already it can't happen
  54.
  55. Hallow S. (GM): You added a lot of worldbuilding, which some of the existing player base liked, but one thing we all agreed on was that even in the expanded version, there were no hooks for your character. Your character did not expand, even if your backstory did.
  56.
  57. Ekko: I don't understand no hooks - there are plenty
  58.
  59. Hallow S. (GM): And we were split fairly evenly on liking/disliking your writing style. Some liked it, some disliked it, and I found it very difficult to parse, even if there were some good bits when I took that time to parse it.
  60.
  61. Ekko: Despite the Empire's many challenges, it is not without hope. Her resources are vast, and her population is the largest in the known world. The new Emperor has surrounded himself with the finest minds in the Empire, as well as some peculiar foreigners, and intends to reinvigorate his dying kingdom. Xiajen must adapt or perish - the world is getting smaller, and the scent of weakness grows more foul over his domain with every passing generation. Reforms must be made, alliances brokered, and threats both within and without neutralized. In all of these tasks, the Emperor will find Jesi's skillset invaluable.
  62.
  63. Hallow S. (GM): Writing style is not something you can change overnight. It can be adapted, but that takes time, which I don't have to spare for a player trying to make a fifth slot.
  64.
  65. Ekko: wow
  66. that's rough, but I guess you warned me
  67. I mean...you won't find a more willing player, but I don't think there exists a person who will meet your expectations
  68.
  69. Hallow S. (GM): Perhaps not.
  70. But my expectations for a fifth player slot is "You have to be so good that you make me want to open a fifth player slot, even when I know that may stretch me too thin."
  71.
  72. Ekko: it's your game, so be it
