  1. Kimiko Backstory Proposal:
  2.
  3. [History]
  4.
  5. Kimiko was born to Huo and Jia Li, two high society fire nation nobles, in the Fire Nation Capitol during the spring of 231 AG.
  6.
  7. An only child, she was the pride of her family, carrying their futures in her hands, essentially. Her natural abilities led her parents to intensely pressure her to excel and pursue multiple activities and extracurriculars, all of which she was to strive to be the best in. Her natural talent as a firebender led her participate in an advanced dancing troupe, training in traditional firebending forms like the dragon dances, which is where she developed her graceful, dancelike firebending style. She became an accomplished duelist as a result, having never lost an Agni Kai as of the beginning of the story. Her intelligence led her to the top at the Fire Nation's most prestigious academy, graduating as the 1st ranked in her class. Despite the praise she'd so often receive, the pressure took a great toll on her. The feelings of carrying the wishes of her family name, being a highborn FN noble and having to work on so many prospects at once was extremely difficult to juggle and handle emotionally. This is one of the reasons why Kim was unable to create lightning despite her family's natural affinity towards it; her mind was so bogged down with her responsibilities and troubles at the behest of her family that she was never able to fully clear it.
  8.
  9. However, Kim herself felt lost in what she wanted to do with her life. She was being pulled in multiple directions, yet didn't have a true interest in any, never having chosen a fate for herself. It was only after a fateful meeting with her uncle, Vachir, that she decided where she wanted to take her life, the world of politics. Kim found an interest in the development of the world and wanting to constantly try to create a better world. After deciding to work with him, she was his pupil at the age of 15, and eventually agent over the course of 4 years. In the summer of 250 AG, Vachir gave her a special directive of the utmost importance; the retrieval of the newest Avatar.
  10.
  11. [Relationships]
  12.
  13. Kim's relationship with her uncle Vachir was very close when she was younger, but grew apart when she became older. They were able to connect again when Kim was around 15, and wondering what she should do with herself. Vachir took her under his wing and guided her into the FN political system, with her becoming a diplomat and one of his personal agents by the age of 18. Kimiko trusts Vachir implicitly, and for good reason, as he's the reason she was able to chase after something she'd truly wanted. Kimiko also sees Vachir as one of the only people who've ever understood her, and what she wanted for herself. Her desire to create a better world was also influenced by Vachir's devotion to the FN and making it stronger. However, this also led to her losing sight of her dream by following Vachir; as she was only concerned with the betterment of the Fire Nation, and not with improving the quality of life of those in the rest of the world, leading to her somewhat prejudiced nature.
  14.
  15. Her "friend" group at school consisted of the children of the FN elite, including Aoi, one of her oldest friends turned bitter rival, and Kaizo, the fire prince. Aoi and Kimiko were close friends until an argument caused a rift in their relationship that neither bothered to patch. Kimiko and Kaizo dated for a short period, and Kim is one of the only people who knows what Kaizo is genuinely like. The two ended their relationship when Kimiko got tired of Kaizo's media attention, wanting to live her life outside of the public eye, in addition to her impending apprenticeship under Vachir. The two are still very good friends.
  16.
  17. Her closest friend, however, is Poi, the (adopted) daughter of the servants who worked for her parents. The two were inseparable after their initial meeting and Kim would take her everywhere with her. Kim felt close to Poi because she was the only person she could talk about how she truly felt to, without social stigmas, prejudice or expectations. With her, she didn't need to put on the guise of an high-class FN socialite all of the time; she could act as she truly wanted. However, due to Kim's status and rising rank as a diplomat, she has had Poi act as her handmaiden in order for them to stay together, a relationship change that has both strengthened and strained their bond, for different reasons.
