Mario, Peach & Toadsworth arrive in Big City (name to be decided) on airplane.
Explore central hub with them in tow.
When entering next area, group is hailed to an alley by Gloombob.
Gloombob tries to rob them.
Tutorial, Peach telling Mario to remember how to fight.
Gloombob gets his ass kicked.
Offers to reconcile by being their guide to the city
They agree, Gloombob joins party.
Continue to next area.
They find a Gearmo from Galaxy running through streets in panic yelling “MY KEY! I’VE LOST MY KEY!”
Mario’s group approaches, Peach wondering what’s wrong, Gloombob saying it’s a loon.
Gearmo explains that his very important key has gone missing and that he thinks some rapscallion took it.
Gloombob notes that thieves usually escape through Bygone Alley, a maze of alleys and dark passages in the city.
Peach says Mario should help Gearmo, Mario agrees, Gloombob laments.
Peach stays behind to keep Gearmo company while Mario enters the bad side of town to find the key.
Mario and the group move through Bygone Alley.
Party finally encounters ???(Main villain name to be decided) and Recon Guy.
??? has the key.
Talk back and forth over “returning the key to whom it rightfully belongs to” with ??? saying it’s hers.
Key starts talking, saying weird cryptic shit.
??? comments that she’s happy this is the right key apparently, but this isn’t the time for it to wake up.
Recon Guy tells ??? to go on and that he’ll handle Mario & co.
Boss fight with Recon Guy.
After fight, Recon Guy picks himself up, looks around, and confirms that he stalled long enough for ??? to get away.
Recon Guy then throws a flashbang and disappears.
Mario and co. return to Gearmo with the news of what happened.
Gearmo takes them all to his place in the city, the penthouse suite in the central skyscraper.
Explains how he was hired to collect these 7 special keys by a “very important employer”.
Says they’re called the “Cosmic Keys” and the job was basically to ensure they didn’t end up in the wrong hands, otherwise something terrible would happen.
But if someone else was collecting them, his connections and whatnot will no longer be enough to find them all in a timely manner.
Peach offers Mario to help find the keys.
Gloombob claims he shouldn’t and that it has nothing to do with them, until Gearmo claims his employer will pay any price if they retrieved the keys.
They agree and Gearmo gives them the thing he used to find the first key: a giant keyring (this game’s “guide”).
He explains that the keyring can be used to see where the next key is, as for some reason it won’t show the previous key he found anymore.
And thus the adventure begins.
