  1. There's been some actual research done on salvaging for luck;
  2.
  3. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1lnmb3/preliminary_essence_of_luck_research/ -> used basic.
  4. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1mk21b/does_anyone_know_the_expected_luck_points_on/cca5d9u -> used basic.
  5. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1lny52/salvaged_2000_masterwork_armorsweapons_for/ -> Used rare quality salvage kits and got the same luck.
  6. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Ectoplasm/salvage_research -> more research, as you can see, for luck at least the quality of salvage doesn't matter.
  7.
  8. I can link you a dozen more "research threads" if you like.
  9.
  10. What do I use when I don't care about luck? I use my Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic for everything that isn't rare or exotic quality, which is the same as using basic salvage kits.
  11. Yeah, you won't get the slightly higher chance that you get a slightly higher quality materials and/or recovered upgrades. But in my humble opinion;
  12.
  13. a) the chance for the rare materials is tiny (especially relative to each other) regardless of the quality
  14. b) the rare materials are hardly worth anything more than the normal materials and most sigils sell for 16 copper
  15. c) some items (like for example lvl 80 blue berserker axes) will (almost) always salvage into a rare material like orichalcum ore, regardless of what quality of salvage kit you use.
  16. d) if you consider the previous points and look at the cost of the other salvage kits compared to the basic salvage kit (or the salvage-o-matic) you'll most of the time lose money compared to using a basic kit.
  17.
  18. So, rares & exotics? -> Rare salvage kit (or mystic)
  19. Everything else? Basic (or Salvage-o-matic)

  26. There is less real "hard research evidence" for crafting materials, since it basically boils down to an item per item case. After doing it for a while though, me and many other are of the opinion that it doesn't really matter that much if at all (most of the time) and simply sticking with basic kits would mean more $$ and less hassle. That, and the only materials (for cloth) worth salvaging these days aren't the rare materials but the regular ones instead. Silk sells for more than gossamer for example.
