  1. Tartu is the second biggest city in Estonia with the size of 39 square kilometers and 97 332 people habiting it. The first time Tartu was mentioned in history was in the year of 1030. The biggest river of Estonia flows through Tartu. Tartus' most important historical building is the university of Tartu, which was established in 1637. The tartu peace treaty was signed in Tartu and also the first sing festival was held in Tartu. The theatre of vanemuine, which was built in 1870, is stationed in Tartu and it has a great historical value. The first play that was done in Vanemuine, was conducted by Lydia Koidula. Nowadays, Tartu is called as a university city. Also night singing festivals are held in Tartu. And a tip for youngsters : If you're looking for nightlife, then head out to Rüütli tänav-most of the nighttime events happen in that street.
