  1. <Nick|GM> After Moira's talk with Spotlight about taking over the power plant, she went back to her fire house. The next morning, after getting up and getting breakfast, she gets a call from Allie. At least, according to the primitive caller ID on her sat phone. ||
  2. <Thalia|Moira> Moira makes a nice, big yawn. She sits up slowly, stretching as she does so. She scratches her face a bit with one hand while the other reaches for the phone. She just hope Allie can't hear how tired she is. "Hello?" She says while she yawns. So fucking close.||
  3. <Nick|GM> She hears the slightly raspy, way-too-old-for-her-looks voice on the other end.
  4. <Nick|GM> "How are you doing this lovely morning, Cherry?" ||
  5. <Thalia|Moira> Moira rubs her face. "Good, good..." Eyes felt like someone put little bits of glue in it, but not like Allie was watching her. At least she hoped she wasn't, she wasn't dressed properly at all. "How are you, Allie?"||
  6. <Nick|GM> "Perfectly fine, thanks for asking!" she responds. There's more static than she's used to from normal phones. ||
  7. <Thalia|Moira> Moira gets up out of bed. She has since forgotten where or why she got the Fire Bear PJs, but they were damn comfortable. Especially with as cold as Pueblo was. "So, what's up?"||
  8. <Nick|GM> "Can't I just have called to want to talk to you?" Allie asks. ||
  9. <Thalia|Moira> "Of course you can." But she didn't think that was the case at the early time it... what time is it, anyway?||
  10. <Nick|GM> "So, how are things?" ||
  11. <Thalia|Moira> Moira looks for a clock or the sun or something. "Interesting. I heard about the thing with the Normal the other day."||
  12. <Nick|GM> "Exciting times," she says. She sounds genuinely enthused. ||
  13. <Thalia|Moira> Well, now it's just girl gossip time. "Heard that one of them betrayed the others, but not sure who it would have been. I think Sordid Affair just because she seemed distracted and not really committed when we fought, but... speculation."||
  14. <Nick|GM> "Sordid Affair is dead," Allie says. "She ran away from the fight and into another one." ||
  15. <Thalia|Moira> "Well that's... annoying." Damn, Moira kinda liked her. She had good taste in music. "That's one less talk I'm going to have to have."||
  16. <Nick|GM> "Can't you see..." she begins. "Well, no, of course you can't. Well, anyway. Why were you going to talk to her?" ||
  17. <Thalia|Moira> "Well, I was figurin' she was the traitor because she just seemed out of sorts. Wanted to see why." It was the investigator in her. If she ever moved to civilization, her cape name would be Investi-Gator. ||
  18. <Nick|GM> "I don't think she was the traitor, but she certainly didn't stick around to help." ||
  19. <Thalia|Moira> "Might not have betrayed them, but she didn't want to stick around. Got it. Beyond her, I really didn't care if it was someone else. She was my only interest on the team." Run from one fight and right into another. Damn that is shitty luck.||
  20. <Nick|GM> "So, have you found out anything interesting?" she asks. "I have to admit that I really didn't just call to chat." She laughs. Well, cackles. ||

  22. <Thalia|Moira> "Spotlight is planning a big move that I'm helping with." Just the two of them cape-wise, so far. She needed materials to get the traps made to hold the position.||
  23. <Nick|GM> "Anything you're willing to share?" ||
  24. <Thalia|Moira> "Depends how you feel about the Urbanites, I suppose." Nothing direct, but a 'big move' and Urbanites only really had one big option. Maybe Moira wanted them to know they were coming.||
  25. <Nick|GM> "Oh, I won't say anything, if that's what you're worried about." She laughs. "Their time is almost up, anyway." ||
  26. <Thalia|Moira> "Well then, we want to grab the power plant from them. The issue of holding it came up and I suggest piles of booby traps." Time is almost up? Was there something precog-y going on here?||
  27. <Nick|GM> "The power plant, huh? Seems like a lot of effort." ||
  28. <Thalia|Moira> "Well, if their time is almost up, someone needs to run the plant, right?" Moira plays with her toes a bit in the Fire Bear onsie. ||
  29. <Nick|GM> "Not necessarily. Power's overrated. And there's another plant in town, anyway." ||
  30. <Thalia|Moira> "I guess this is where me being from out of town is a disadvantage." She wondered why Spotlight wouldn't mention that one. "Is it even in working condition?"||
  31. <Nick|GM> "Probably. It's a lot smaller. Used to power the airport." ||
  32. <Thalia|Moira> She might suggest grabbing that to Spotlight as well. A backup plan. But part of the reason they wanted the big one was to be able to use it on the other gangs... though. Moira goes quiet for a minute. They could DESTROY the bigger plant and use the smaller one to just power the heroicish territories. A thought. "Just because it was a big enough drain or they didn't want to sorry about outages?"||
  33. <Nick|GM> "They needed a more reliable, immediate source. It's so close to the airport that any interruption would be easy to investigate." ||
  34. <Thalia|Moira> "Makes sense. Hard to land aircraft in the dark without lights. Anyone on that side?"||
  35. <Nick|GM> "It's in a contested area. Nothing worth anything around the plant, though. Keeping it probably wouldn't be that hard. Easier to just bend the knee to the Urbanites, though, for the time being, for most." It's hard to determine emotion over the poor connection, but she sounds invested. ||
  36. <-> soulpelt| is now known as soulpelt|sleep
  37. <Thalia|Moira> She might need to look up how to destroy a coal plant. And a weather forecast. If she could convince Spotlight to go for the smaller plant. She grabs a pen and some paper and starts making notes. They could destroy the main plant, grab the small one, and if they timed it right... the cold might just take care of some of their problems. "So if no one knows what we're grabbing, no one might care?"||
  38. <Nick|GM> "Mmm. Maybe!" She laughs again. ||
  39. <Thalia|Moira> "Not a bad idea..." She could scope it out in her civvies, no one would pay attention to her, after all.||
  40. <Nick|GM> "One more thing. If you get a chance, try to see how Magic Mirror is doing. I haven't heard anything from or about her in too long for everything to be status quo." ||
  41. <Thalia|Moira> Definitely being in her civvies would help there. She makes a note to underline Magic Mirror three times on her paper. "Any vague idea where I could find her?"||

  43. <Nick|GM> "Out east, in the farmland, usually. Maybe not now, though. Depends why she's gone quiet." ||
  44. <Thalia|Moira> "I'll make a trip out there and see what I can find. Anyone else you're concerned with?"||
  45. <Nick|GM> "Nothing I'll bother you with," Allie says. "But thank you! Drop by for soup sometime." ||
  46. <Thalia|Moira> "Alright, I'll talk to you later, Allie." What time was it? She never found out if she was being lazy or Allie was a morning person.||
  47. <Nick|GM> The sun is up, but it can't be later than about 9. Probably just above freezing. ||
  48. <Thalia|Moira> If Allie has nothing to add, Moira hangs up. She'd have to get out of her Fire Bear PJs, dress into some decent winter clothes, then go check out what Magic Mirror is doing. To the east, to the farmland she said... hopefully it wouldn't be a needle in a haystack kinda hunt.||
  49. <Nick|GM> Even in the brick fire station, it's cold. Quiet, for now. Nothing's moving. No wind. ||
  50. <Thalia|Moira> Moira does a bit of stretching. Then, it was time to start walking. Man, why couldn't all the HoSVs be somewhere warmer? Flint was cold. Madison was cold. No way she was going to deal with Nilbog or the machine army. ||
  51. <Nick|GM> There's always Jasper and Gary. And she's pretty sure that Pueblo gets warm in the summer.
  52. <Nick|GM> But right now, it's not exactly comfortable walking along highway 96 towards the Army Depot.
  53. <Nick|GM> The houses quickly disappear into empty, long abandoned fields.
  54. <Nick|GM> They're covered in weeds and wildgrass, but the boundaries between them are still clear.
  55. <Nick|GM> There are shacks and farmhouses by most of the fields.
  56. <Nick|GM> She can see a barricade on the horizon, blocking the highway before the Army Depot. PRT vans. Hopefully Magic Mirror's in some of the closer fields. ||
  57. <Thalia|Moira> Well, if Magic Mirror was on the opposite end of the PRT vans, that would explain why she was quiet. Before Moira even heads that way, she looks for signs of life in the nearby fields. Even if they were untamed, stamped down grass and paths should show themselves.||

  62. <Nick|GM> There's one building between the fields that has obviously been in use. Windows boarded up, mostly intact, and the road in front is clear. ||
  63. <Thalia|Moira> Well, would she be hiding this close to the PRT? Only one way to find out. Moira casually strolls up to the building and tries to peek through a hole in the boarded up window, if there was one.||
  64. <Nick|GM> The inside is dark, what with the boarded up windows and the lack of power. She can't see anyone or anything unusual from this angle. No sounds, either. ||
  65. <Thalia|Moira> Well, time to do the dumb move. Moira just walks up to the front door and knocks. Why couldn't Allie have more information on where she is?||
  66. <Nick|GM> As she knocks on the door, Moira unintentionally pushes it open. It wasn't even latched. No one seems to respond to the intrusion. ||
  67. <Thalia|Moira> "Wow." She says aloud. Fuck stealth if there was no one here. She takes a cautious step inside and starts searching for clues. If she were running a group right outside the PRT, having her HQ be underground would be useful. ||
  68. <Nick|GM> ((invest again))

  70. <[ATM]> Thalia|Moira "investigation" (4) (2) [6] = 6
  71. <Nick|GM> Underground is right on the money. The basement door leads down into something obviously newer. A crudely excavated cave reinforced with beams of wood. There are plastic chests stacked in one corner, and a tunnel leading to what must be another room. ||
  72. <Thalia|Moira> And down the rabbit hole she goes. Before she goes into the tunnel, she decides to see what was in the plastic chest. ||
  73. <Nick|GM> It's locked, unfortunately. A cheap combination lock, four numbers. ||
  74. <Thalia|Moira> She wonders if she's hot enough to melt the plastic. Eh, no reason to break the chest now. If she needed to raid for supplies, she could later. For now, she just tries the dumbest possible combination before heading deeper into the rabbit hole: 1-2-3-4.||
  75. <Nick|GM> $roll 1d6 MM Know
  76. <[ATM]> Nick|GM "MM Know" [2] = 2
  77. <Nick|GM> It's not 1-2-3-4. ||
  78. <Thalia|Moira> She's partially disappointed that it didn't work and glad whoever runs the place isn't THAT dumb. Instead, she just heads down the tunnel.||
  79. <Nick|GM> It's a short tunnel. The walls and ceiling are dirt, but it seems to be held up rather well by the wood.
  80. --> Jackknife (uid200599@stonehaven.irccloud.com) has joined #WDPueblo
  81. <Nick|GM> The next room has more plastic chests. It's mostly empty. ||
  82. <Thalia|Moira> Is... is this it? No people. No, this was a storage area. Moira checks the room to make sure there isn't ANOTHER passage of this one before heading back. She would need to see about tracing some footsteps or a path from here to where Mirror was really hiding.||

  87. <Nick|GM> There is no other tunnel, but looking at the dirt floor she does see footprints. Pretty clear too, althought there's not much that could have messed them up underground. From looking at them, there seems to have been something quite active done down here. Either a party or a fight, probably. Lots of slides and scuffs. ||
  88. <Thalia|Moira> Next guess would be birth year? Moira tries the chest again, this time cycling through the 1980s and 1990s. Capes normally don't live that long, so that's not a bad guess. She was too curious about what was in the plastic, but she wasn't willing to melt it open yet.||
  89. <Nick|GM> ((you want to try all 228 combinations of month + 80-99?))
  90. <Thalia|Moira> ((19**))
  91. <Nick|GM> ((ah))
  92. <Nick|GM> Enter code. Add one. Add one. Add one... Add ten, subtract nine... Add one. Add one...
  93. <Nick|GM> None of those combinations work, and it's taking a long time to enter each one. ||
  94. <Thalia|Moira> Well, that was it for trying combos. She wasn't going to sit here and try 9,999 combos until she got in. Instead, she looks for footprints to try and follow out. If the people Mirror was working with were together, then they should take an obvious path from there to here. ||
  95. <Nick|GM> The footprints are clear up the stairs, but they're lost once she gets back on the main floor where the floor is covered in carpet. It's possible she'll be able to follow tire tracks or something outside, though. ||
  96. <Thalia|Moira> Well, if she had a reason to be unfriendly with Mirror, she would need to remember that she could probably burn this place to the ground. There was a driveway here, so she exhales and walks over that way. They probably didn't go TOO far from here... she hoped. It would would suck to do more walking, but she looked for tire tracks nonetheless.||
  97. <Nick|GM> There are some tire tracks leading back to the highway ramp. As she looks back towards the highway, though, she sees a PRT van coming her way. ||
  98. <Thalia|Moira> Well, they probably saw her, but just in case... Moira runs back behind the house and ducks behind there. It's not like she was super stealthy, but she had to at least give it a shot, right? Moira peeks her head out of cover, just barely.||
  99. <Nick|GM> The van is not slowing down. As it approaches her hiding spot, a window rolls down.
  100. <Nick|GM> "Cape, you better get out of here," yells a voice. "Fucking quickly if you don't want to get hurt." ||
  101. <Thalia|Moira> "God, the PRT is lazy. Won't even get out of the van to threaten me." Moira comes out of hiding and dusts herself off. Ignoring the threats for a second. "Then again, it's fucking cold out here, and the van probably has a good heater, so I really can't blame you."||
  102. <Nick|GM> "It's not a threat. It's a warning. There's a missile on it's way. We're blasting the house. Now leave!" ||
  103. <Thalia|Moira> Oh my god. "What is wrong with you people!?" She just decides that booking it for the road was a good plan. And then she lost her trail for Mirror. "I mean, can't you just leave stuff like this alone!?"||
  104. <Nick|GM> "Not my choice, cape," replies the squaddie. "You're lucky the Director told us to come tell you." ||
  105. <Thalia|Moira> "Fine, what's minimum safe distance? Or do you just want to give me a ride?"||
  106. <Nick|GM> "Running should be fine. Radius isn't huge. A hundred feet max?" ||
  107. <Thalia|Moira> Part of her is tempted to see if her fire was hot enough to melt tires. Not the thing for heroes to do. "Thanks!" Moira just starts running for the road, going for at least 200 feet or so before the missile hits.||
  108. <Nick|GM> The van keeps going, makes a turn, and leaves her sight. As she looks back at the house, she sees a large missle fall from the sky. It's clear like glass, with something glowing bright yellow in the center. It's not falling as fast as she'd expect a missile to, but powers never seem to be straightforwards.
  109. <Nick|GM> The missile hits the lawn of the house and expands into an orb before sending god rays of light in every direction. The light beams destroy the house wherever they touch it, with the lawn being eaten up as collateral. Moira's pretty sure that she can see the house collapse partially into the crude basement. After ten seconds of scouring, the lights disappear. The dust settles. ||
  110. <Thalia|Moira> Moira takes the moment to collapse on the ground. Fucking hell, there goes THAT lead. Though if that WAS one of MM's places, it would explain why she was so hard to find lately. She might be who the PRT was targeting with missile strikes. Still, a scorched earth policy made things hard to track down. Fucking hell.||
  111. <Nick|GM> There's nothing else to see, now. All leads are gone. At least, for the time being. ||
  112. <Thalia|Moira> Another stake-out? Someone would probably show up to check on their stores. Moira gets up and shakes any snow off, walking over to the crater. Taking out the pen and paper from earlier, she writes a quick note: "I saw what happened. PRT missiled the location. Please contact." She signs it with her sat phone number. Now she just needs a good place to leave it.||
  113. <Nick|GM> There's plenty of places in the wreckage that she could attach the note. It's just a matter of how visible she wants it. ||
  114. <Thalia|Moira> Incredibly. She wants the MM people to notice it. Moira attaches it in an incredibly visible location and then she heads off to the other power plant. Hopefully, that call would come back soon.||
  115. <Nick|GM> ((you good to end here?))
  116. <Thalia|Moira> ((Sure.))
  117. <Nick|GM> The airport power plant isn't too far. She'll be there soon. ||||
