  1. It was 3 years after the monster's exodus from the underground that Frisk first noticed just how.. wrong Asriel had come out of it. He was obsessive with Frisk in obscene amounts. Often threatening horrible things if he wouldn't spend time with him. Frisk would brush it off, mostly because of love, perhaps because of his perceived obligation or maybe it was simply because it never truly bothered him. Asriel had done far worse to him as Flowey, and the bouts of madness were short and often fleeting, with Asriel not even realizing what he was doing was wrong. That should've been a warning sign to Frisk but family can blind you to what sits just in front. The true warning came one summers afternoon.
  2.
  3. The birds were singing in the trees and the grass outside of the school Toriel had set up was fresh and crisp. Greenery in abundance with hedges of all shapes and sizes surrounding a white gravel pathway that lead up to a sprinkling fountain, the center piece filled with monsters and humans grasping hands while water cascaded down the sides into a rich clear pool that burbled and bubbled. The red sandstone building just beyond the fountain radiated warmth. Clean clear windows looked on into several neat and tidy little classrooms, all empty for the moment. The sun was high above, reflecting a dancing display of light across the pool of water in the basin of the fountain, throwing a beautiful pattern of lines across Frisk's face as he sat at it, twirling his fingers in the cool water wishing he could take a dip. His stripy sweater, freshly pressed that morning was far too hot for this time of the year. Rolling up the sleeves and tucking his loose trousers underneath themselves to make bagged up shorts let in some cooler air.
  4.
  5. Children, both monsters and humans tumbled and ran around on the lawn, chasing each other laughing and giggling, shouting in delight whenever another child caught up to them. Frisk smiled. This is what he was working for. Sitting next to Frisk as his brother, Asriel. A green shirt and black shorts covered him, flip flops sitting on his padded feet and a smile gracing his face. He'd been holding frisks hand, silently staring into his face since they had both sat down for their break. Ready at a moments notice to drag me away from the crowd that would probably be forming in a moment. Frisk knew he'd take him to the woods just behind the school, probably blushing the whole way, they'd both sneak off to the woods just behind the school and talk about anything. Just like clockwork, the children began to flock around the fountain. Asriel's grip tightened on Frisk's hand, his claws beginning to stab into his flesh. Frisk could hear him muttering under his breath. "He's my bro, not yours, go away.. go away.. go away..". Patting his paw with his free hand, Frisk gently whispered back. "It's ok, Az. No one's going to hurt me." Tears silently welling in his eyes, Asriel nodded meekly, withdrawing his hands into his pockets and standing up, kicking up gravel as he stomped a small distance off, a watchful eye being kept on Frisk at all times.
  6.
  7. Surveying the group, Frisk put on his game face. These kids would be coming with a barrage of questions and requests for Frisk. Things their parents were probably too afraid to talk to him directly about, things they didn't want their parents to know about, or perhaps just a friendly hello. Their faces light up any time he spoke, their tiny hearts beat in unison as he regaled them with tales of his supposed heroism when the truth was he was just a scared child lost and alone until he found the determination hidden inside to push through the layers of the underworld and emerge with a family and entire race that cared for him deeply in tow. Voice after voice surrounded Frisk as he tried his best to give everyone attention. To the side he could feel an intense glare coming from his brother. His fur positively bristling the longer he spent time with the group rather than him alone. He'd have to wrap this up fast before anything happened.
  8.
  9. Last in line was Monster Kid. A bit taller since his days in the underground but still shorter than Frisk and definitely Shorter than Asriel who had spurted a head above them all so far. and fast Toriel could barely keep up with making him new clothes or purchasing new striped tops. "H.. Hey Frisk, dude. I.. can I ask you a question?" Smiling Frisk jumped down from his perch atop the fountain basin lip and approached Monster kid."Sure, Mk, sure. Ask away." Sweat was beading on his brow as he kicked the sand beneath his feet, a red blush permeating his tiny orange cheeks. " I was wondering if.. if you would... it's just that there's a.. next Friday.. would you.. come to the dance with me?!" Almost screaming the word ME, a silence descended on the group of kids surrounding Frisk. "Ah.. you want me to.. go to.." Frisk was dumbstruck. It was usually him who did the flirting, this was the first time he'd been asked out anywhere for anything other than official business. True, Az would always invite me places and he'd go but he was family, Frisk would never consider it a date.
  10.
  11. The air crackled and it felt like the skies were darkening in response to some terrible calamity about to unfold. Frisk's hair stood on end as he turned to face his brother and saw the blank look on his face. His head slightly ajar and mouth gaping open he stared into the nothing between Frisk and Monster kid. His face began to twist into a horrible amalgamation of fear and pain and rage and sadness. "NO" He screamed as lightning flew across the sky. The silent crowd grew even quieter. The silence hung in the air, a thick atmosphere suffering and suffocating. Wild and rabid, with foam frothing from his mouth Asriel charged towards Monster kid. Before Frisk could react both of them were flying through the air, landing in the founding with a loud splash. Asriel was breathing deep and heavy, his fur sticking out at all angles, his eyes focused to a pinpoint as he forced Monster Kid down. Gurgling and struggling, the armless Monster Kid was drowning as Ariel had his two clawed paws on his exposed throat, holding him under the water as he kicked and heaved sending cascades of clear water flowing over the basin onto the grass and gravel below.
  12.
  13. Using his height and weight to his advantage Asriel shifted his legs under Monster Kid's in a lock so he would stop kicking out while lifting him in and out of the water, screaming; "You - will - not - take - frisk - to - the - dance! I WILL!" In between words Asriel smacked Mk mercilessly across his undefended face, bruising it. "What are you doing?!" Frisk yelled as He pulled Asriel out of the fountain, nearly effortlessly pulling Asriel's shirt collar down to His level, Frisk slapped Asriel across his big furry face silencing his incoherent raging. Regret filled Frisk almost immediately. With tears welling up in his huge dumbfounded eyes Asriel just stared down at Frisk. Frisk had never hit Asriel before. Even during any sibling arguments they had, they'd never laid a finger on each other. Asriel's jaw trembled as he stared down at Frisk. Tears freely flowing now, marking his fur with deep scores, scarring his young features. Words caught in his throat as he tried to say something. But nothing came out. Wringing his hands all he could do was cry silently as Frisk picked up monster kid and escorted him to the nurses office leaving his sobbing brother behind, soaked to the bone and shivering in the air.
  14.
  15. The warm glow of the nurses office was welcoming after the cold burning feeling Frisk felt towards His brother had been slowly engulfing him. Why would he do this? We love each other very much but this.. episode of his was too much he thought silently as he walked Mk towards the center of the room. Mk's silence chilled Frisk. No tears or trembling lips just a steely gaze looking ahead made Frisk feel like a storm was coming. Sitting behind her desk, the former Snowdin shop keeper bunny was scribbling down some notes while humming a familiar tune. "Excuse me, nurse. We really could use some help here." Glancing up the nurse moved to action the moment she saw Monster kid. "Come here, kid. We need to get that swelling down." Moving faster than you'd think possible with her sizable.. assets, the nurse swiftly motioned her hands over Mk's face, tiny little bursts of energy flashing, illuminating the room in a multitude of bright colors. Leaving Mk in her capable hands, Frisk turned to leave and head for his mom's office. He'd have to try and smooth this whole situation over somehow. Better start at the top and work his way down.
  16.
  17. Grasping the handle, Frisk froze mid turn as he heard a small noise coming from behind him. "Yo, Frisk..". Frisk could almost feel the hatred in his voice creeping up his spine worming it's way into his head and heart filling him with dread. Never before had he felt such malice from another monster. "Next time you want to say no to me. Do it yourself." Turning to face him, Frisk tried to explain "Mk, i didn't mea-" the nurse motioned for Frisk's silence with a wave of her hands. "Please Frisk, this kid has been through a lot in the last few minutes. Give him some space. Come talk to him later after we're done here." Nothing more to be done Frisk headed for mom's office His head hung low and dejected.
  18.
  19. Frisk was rolling thoughts around his head as he strolled down the gleaming cream colored corridor, lockers lining to the sides and doors leading into empty classrooms. Maybe He could spin it into an accident he thought.. no. Too many witnesses. Perhaps brush it over once Mk had calmed down, do a full apology. All Frisk knew was that this was going to cost a lot of good will. He knew that monsters were barely fitting into society back and any violence would reflect badly. SOS was in full force, trying their best to damage monster reputation so Frisk couldn't handle this wrong. Of course no society was perfect and fights would happen but what Asriel had done out in the School yard.. It boggled Frisk's mind .Standing before the Principles office, Frisk wrung his hands. The simple clean wooden door had a glass window, frosted with the words Principle Toriel emblazoned on it in swirly purple writing, embossed with golden flowers and flowery Calligraphy. Asriel's work. The door opened slowly but effortlessly as Frisk pushed on it, stepping inside onto a soft pink fuzzy carpet, the warmth inside washed over him, calming his nerves.
  20.
  21. Typing on a novelty sized keyboard, Toriel looked focused. Her tongue was sticking out the side as a cooling cup of steaming liquid sat next to her on the small oak desk that she and Frisk and family had managed to scavenge from an old school. Everything in her office was either 2nd hand or worse. The school had almost no budget from the state but it didn't stop Toriel from doing what she could. The office its self was small, a pink carpet filling the floor and some bare purple curtains with gold trimmings decorated the only window that stared out into the yard with the fountain, overlooking it all from above. A tiny lonesome book case stood behind her, full to the brim with study books and a few extra snail fact books Frisk and Asriel had gotten for her on mothers day. "Mom?"
  22.
  23. Toriel's small trimmed glasses flashed as she switched from the small screen to looking at Frisk. "Oh! Frisk, my child!" Her smile lit up the focused face she must've held for hours, stretching long tired muscles firing them into life. "What's wrong Frisk?" Always straight to the point, Toriel had a knack for knowing something was wrong before Frisk could even tell her. "It's.. about Asriel mom. He did something pretty bad earlier." Sitting up straighter on her desk and smoothing her robes she calmly stared at me. "Where is he?" I pointed to the outside playground. Asriel could still be seen standing where I left him. a long shadow stretching from beneath him as he stood still in shock, flowing over the fountain. "Oh, child.. " Toriel stood and walked gracefully to the Window, gently parting the curtains. She unlatched the window and propped it with a small ornate stick, topped with a relief of the Dreemurr family insignia on it.
  24.
  25. "ASRIEL DREEMURR, GET YOUR FURRY BUTT IN HERE RIGHT NOW". The window panes shook and some books fell off of the neat piles on top of the overstuffed bookcase. Asriel moved even faster than he had earlier and was bustling in behind Frisk before either him or Toriel knew it, bowling him over in his hurry to enter the room, apologizing profusely when he noticed he'd knocked Frisk down. "F-frisk I'm sorry I didn't-" placing his finger on Asriel's muzzle, Frisk shh'd his brother firmly. "It's ok, Az. We need to talk. You need to tell mom what happened out there." Still dripping with water from his dip, Asriel's eyes began to water up again as he stared at Frisk. "You told me you'd take me to the dance since I'd never been. Why didn't you say no straight away, Frisk?! You promised me! You wouldn't go back on your promise to your only brother, would you?!" Practically screaming, Asriel grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me. His eyes squirming with rage and an empty kind of sorrow.
  26.
  27. "Children! Stop!" Even now, Toriel still had the gift to stop a fight with her tone of voice alone. The worry in it was more than enough to guilt us into obedience. "Frisk, apologize to Asriel for breaking your promise. Asriel, apologize to Frisk for over-reacting to him breaking his promise." Frisk's eyes nearly popped out of his head. Blurting out that it wasn't his fault and that he didn't break any promise only served to stir his mothers wrath. Toriel's stern stare was enough to silence him and make an apology seem the best solution. "Sorry, bro for.. breaking.. my promise." Frisk said through gritted teeth. His jaw quivering, Asriel mumbled an apology back. "Now, children. I'll make some special pie tonight to celebrate you making up. Asriel, you still have to apologize to Monster kid. Go do that while I discuss something with Frisk. Off you go."
  28.
  29. After Asriel left the room Toriel deflated, slightly. "That child always was extra sweet but ever since.. well. You know the story, Frisk, my dear. I know you didn't mean anything by it but we need to be gentle with Asriel as he accommodates to this new world. Please be kind, Frisk. I know i don't have to ask, you are the most gentle human I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and having the pride to call my own child but.. Asriel needs you more than ever in the coming times." A loud knock at the door interrupted Toriel's long reverie. "Officer?" Toriel inquired. "How can we assist you today?" It was Rg02, crouching through the doorway that was dwarfed, even though it was made to accommodate Toriel's own large size. "We had reports of a disturbance here today ma'm. I know it's strange for the police to intervene in school affairs but some of the human children called their parents and.. the situation is a bit sticky. Where is your son?"
  30.
  31. Holding the bridge of her muzzle Toriel sighed. "He's at the nurses office apologizing to the child he.. assaulted. Look, officer. Can't we just leave this to my dealings? I'm quite qualified to-" "I understand, ma'm. But i had to come out to make sure everything was being handled." Puffing up, Toriel was visibly upset at the implications. "Look, officer, it's being handled. I know you don't control where you're sent but please be aware that i won't tolerate meddling in my system of teaching. You can let your supervisors know." Steeping out of the doorway, Rg02 lifted his cap off his helmet and bowed slightly. "Of course, ma'm. I'll let them know." I could sense the toothy grin beneath his visor expanding as he walked away. Happy that the Queen still had a fight in her.
