Worst Future

   S onic the Hedgehog jumped off the ledge he had jumped onto to regain his breath, not looking back. Lightning struck down around the blue rodent, whose black eyes almost seemed to be set ablaze in fury. Stardust Speedway was, for lack of better wording, a dystopian hellhole. Corrupted in the worst ways, there was pollution everywhere in every sense of the word. The highway he had been running on for most of his time here was decrepit, holes blasted in it by Robotnik's robotic abominations, innocent little animals stuck inside of them and wailing to be set free.

Sonic couldn't hear them, and that only served to make his blood boil.


Running along the highway, the hedgehog took a moment to look at the sky. He was accustomed to seeing a beautiful, clear blue sky. However, in this future, he could only see reddish clouds, lightning piercing them at random.

The city was undergoing an electrical storm of unprecedented levels. Gritting his teeth, he looked forwards and only forwards, his brow furrowed. The air was heavy. He only hoped he'd be able to undo all of this suffering that Little Planet was going through. And, as he ran, a gigantic statue, made of the finest marble, of Doctor - no, Lord Ivo Robotnik - watched him with a manic smirk.

Eventually, the blue hedgehog saw a rather interesting...well, thing. A robot, that seemed to be modeled after him. Standing at his own height of 3'3, its eyes were pitch black, and it was hunched over in front of a barricaded section of the dilapidated highway. Possessing a mainly blue color scheme, with some dashes of golden, mainly on the back of its hands and its belly, and its back, which seemed to have a hole in it. The blue rat could see something in there. Definitely looked like an engine or something. Just a hunch. 'Probably to make him faster,' Sonic rationalized.

There was some silver on it, mainly its mouth and surrounding area, with a very pointy nose of the same color. That thing looked dangerous. There was some armor covering its shoulders - Shoulderpads, Sonic remembered the term - which were of the same coloring. Jagged, dangerous claws on its hands.

And then, Sonic heard a sound that brought more anger to his features. Robotnik's laugh, and noises that only an engine could make. The mad doctor flew in on his personal carrier. This was the Robotnik of his time, not this Bad Future's villain, but it didn't make him any less angry. A hole could be seen on the bottom, and, suddenly, it started to glow yellow, and, at almost the exact same time, the robot's eyes suddenly 'opened', red irises glowing ominously. This only made Robotnik laugh harder.


"So, Sonic! I believe you've met my newest creation?" The fat man - he was shaped almost like an egg, which gave him a brilliant idea for a name for his enemy - voiced, to which the hero responded with a sneer. He was not a man of words.

Robotnik, however, did not seem to care, as he simply continued. "I call him Hyper Metal Sonic! He was made to be exactly like you, but, ah..." The good doctor began, pausing for dramatic effect. This did not impress his adversary. "Better. In every way! And now, you're going to race him. Otherwise, that little girl Metal took won't enjoy her time here," the madman threatened, poor Rosy's life rather obviously at risk. While Sonic found her annoying, he wasn't about to let anything happen to her.

"Once Metal wins this duel, you and yours will be NO MORE!" Robotnik suddenly snarled, moving into position behind the two hedgehogs, one organic and one metallic, the latter turning around and leaning forward slightly, sparks flying off behind him. A brilliant yellow-tinted white beam that surely spelled death for whatever it touched on their heels, the door in front of the two hedgehogs opened, the duo immediately blasting off.

"You'll pay for this, Robotnik." The blue hero swore to himself, righteous anger clearly seen in his eyes. The screams and cries of the people that Robotnik had subjugated were egging him on.

He would not lose.
